Maholm allowed just one unearned run over 7 1/3 innings. The Twins managed seven hits and a walk and struck out four times. Maholm continues to thrive in Atlanta; he owns a 3.38 ERA for the season and a 3.45 ERA since joining Atlanta at last season's trade deadline (21 starts).

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5/18/2013) Braves starting pitcher Paul Maholm enjoyed a decent performance as he picked up his fifth win of the season Friday night against the Dodgers.

Maholm (5-4), who made his ninth start of the season, surrendered two runs in the fourth and a solo home run to Scott Van Slyke in the sixth. He was charged with four runs -- two earned -- and eight hits over six innings of work. He struck out three and walked one in an 8-5 victory.

Maholm has allowed a home run in four of his last six starts. He is scheduled to make his next start Wednesday at home against Minnesota. He has allowed just four earned runs over his last 14 innings of work at Turner Field.

Paul Maholm takes a step back

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5/11/2013) After permitting just two runs in each of his last two starts, Braves starting pitcher Paul Maholm took a step back as he was hit hard and suffered his fourth loss of the season Saturday afternoon against the Giants.

Maholm (4-4), who made his eighth start of the season, gave up a solo home run to Pablo Sandoval in the opening frame and gave up four runs in the fifth. The left-hander was charged with six runs and eight hits over 4 1/3 innings of work in a 10-1 defeat. He struck out three and walked three on 86 pitches, 50 of them for strikes.

Maholm has lost four of his last five decisions after starting the year 3-0 with three straight scoreless starts. He is scheduled to make his next start Friday at home against the Dodgers. Maholm is 1-2 with a 3.50 ERA in his last three starts against the Dodgers.

Paul Maholm adjusting to 'learning curve'

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/8/2013) Outside of allowing eight runs April 26 against the Tigers, Braves starting pitcher Paul Maholm hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his other six starts. In fact, he's allowed a total of four runs in his last two starts since the debacle in Detroit.

Maholm, who has had just three winning seasons in his first eight years in the majors, said he's continuing to make adjustments when needed.

"Obviously, I've had my bumps in the road," the 30-year-old Maholm said, reflecting on his career, per MLB.com. "I think it's learning, it's maturing, it's understanding you don't have to throw so many fastballs. An out's an out. That's the biggest thing. If the team's weakness is offspeed, I'm going to throw offspeed. For me, I'm comfortable with doing that. I think it's just the learning curve of going through it for awhile and getting your teeth kicked in a few times and learning there's a different way to do it."

Paul Maholm gets fourth win

by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com
(5/6/2013) Braves pitcher Paul Maholm got his pitch count up early in his start against the Reds Monday night but had a sharp outing. He allowed two runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings in a 7-4 win.

The left-hander held the Reds scoreless through three innings, but in the fourth he put the first two men on before giving up an RBI double to Brandon Phillips. Jay Bruce's groundout drove in another run.

Paul Maholm, who threw 105 pitches, struck out six and walked two.

His next start is scheduled for Saturday against the Giants.

Start Paul Maholm in Week 6

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5/4/2013) Braves starter Paul Maholm was one of the better pitchers in the league in the second half of last season, and he has picked up right he left off through his first six starts. Despite a 3-3 record, Maholm has a 3.08 ERA and has emerged as one of the better Fantasy options for Week 6 (May 6-12).

With two starts on the schedule for the upcoming Fantasy period, it is hard for any owner to justify not putting him in the rotation. Al Melchior has Maholm ranked No. 30 in his Week 6 Pitching Planner, and he goes as far to say that Maholm is an "automatic start" in a two-start week.

Maholm has a career-high 7.58 strikeout rate, which makes him a much more useful Fantasy option than he has been in the past. At this point, it is tough to keep him out of the starting lineup in any Fantasy league.

Paul Maholm strong in pitchers' duel

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/1/2013) Braves starting pitcher Paul Maholm rebounded from a poor outing in his last start to throw eight innings against the Nationals Wednesday, surrendering two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking our four. However, he was on the wrong end of a pitchers' duel and took the loss, falling to 3-3 on the year.

Maholm had one of his team's only two hits in the game as well. He takes a 3.08 ERA into Monday's game in Cincinnati against the Reds.

Paul Maholm rocked in worst start of season

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/26/2013) Braves starting pitcher Paul Maholm turned in his first poor performance of the season Friday against the Tigers, surrendering eight earned runs on 10 hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings while striking out three.

Even with the implosion, Maholm has a 3.30 ERA on the year after starting the season with three straight scoreless outings. He'll face the Nationals at home Wednesday.

Paul Maholm has scoreless streak snapped in loss

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/20/2013) Braves pitcher Paul Maholm had his scoreless streak snapped at 25 1/3 innings, suffering his first loss of the season Saturday night against the Pirates.

Maholm, who made his fourth start, had his streak snapped in the sixth when Andrew McCutchen doubled in a run to tie the game. Gaby Sanchez broke the 1-1 tie with a two-run home run off Maholm in the next at-bat.

The left-hander was charged with three runs and four hits in six innings of a 3-1 loss. He also struck out five and walked three in 89 pitches, 60 for strikes. The 30-year-old has a 1.03 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP.

Paul Maholm maintains pristine ERA

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(4/14/2013) Braves pitcher Paul Maholm (3-0) fired 7 2/3 scoreless innings -- his longest outing of the young season -- during Atlanta's 9-0 rout at Washington on Sunday.

Maholm permitted only one runner to reach second base over the first seven innings and finished with seven strikeouts against just one walk.

The left-hander has not surrendered a run over 20 1/3 innings to open the season with a win in his first three starts  for the first time in his career. He has also posted a sterling 4-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio for a 0.79 WHIP.

"He mixed it up well, mixed his speed up," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "We gave him a nice little cushion to work with, and he kept it. Sometimes that's not easy to do."

Maholm is slated to take the hill again Saturday at Pittsburgh, his former team.

Paul Maholm unscored upon in first two outings

by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com
(4/8/2013) After throwing 5 2/3 scoreless innings in his season debut, Braves pitcher Paul Maholm was even better Monday night against the Marlins.

The left-hander allowed a hit over seven scoreless innings in the 2-0 win. The hit was a single by Placido Polanco in the third. He struck out seven and walked three while throwing 98 pitches, 59 for strikes.

Maholm (2-0) has 13 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings with four walks.

His next start is Sunday against the Nationals. Maholm allowed four runs over seven innings while taking the loss in his lone outing against Washington last season.

Paul Maholm throws four scoreless in spring outing

by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com
(3/28/2013) Braves starter Paul Maholm threw four shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk in Thursday's start against the Astros.

It was a fitting finish to a fine spring. Maholm will head north to Atlanta with a 1.53 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in seven starts covering 29 1/3 innings. He struck out 20 against 11 walks. Maholm has been an average pitcher at best for much of his career with Pittsburgh, but he could be a decent Fantasy value this season as part of a solid Braves' roster.

Paul Maholm produces another sharp outing

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com

Maholm, making his sixth start of the spring, struck out five batters and walked two as he shaved his ERA under 2.00 for the first time since his debut (1.93). The left-hander also is sporting a 0.94 WHIP and has not permitted a home run over 20 2/3 total innings.

Paul Maholm will be No. 2 starter for Braves

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(3/21/2013) Paul Maholm will open the year as the Braves' No. 2 starter, manager Fredi Gonzalez has announced.

Maholm joined the team mid-season, making 11 starts. He had a 3.67 ERA and a 4.00 FIP in 189 innings between the Cubs and Braves.

The 30-year-old doesn’t have as much upside as Kris Medlen but allows the Braves to break up two righties, Medlen and Tim Hudson, at the top of the rotation.

Paul Maholm extends scoreless streak vs. Yankees

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(3/16/2013) Braves pitcher Paul Maholm turned in a solid outing in Saturday's Grapefruit League contest against the Yankees.

Maholm, who made his fifth start of the spring, cruised through six, strong innings and allowed just two hits and issued a walk in a 4-0 victory. He struck out four and improved his ERA to 2.33.

The left-hander extended his scoreless streak to 14 2/3 innings this spring since allowing a five runs against the Phillies on Feb. 28.

"I felt good. The main thing is getting ahead, throwing strikes and mixing speeds and keeping the ball on the ground," he said.

"He had the big breaking ball, and he also had the changeup going," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Plus, he commanded his fastball on both sides of the plate."
