Paul Maholm twirls a gem despite no-decision

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(7/13/2014) Dodgers pitcher Paul Maholm turned in a gem but was not backed by enough run support in a no-decision Saturday at home against the Padres. The left-hander dominated the Padres, scattering two hits over six scoreless frames. He struck out four and did not issue a walk in 65 pitches, 45 for strikes.

Maholm enters the All-Star break with a 4.69 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP over 63 1/3 innings of work this season. He'll likely head back to the bullpen after the break.

(7/8/2014) Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said reliever Paul Maholm is an option to start Saturday's game against the Padres in place of Josh Beckett, who went on the disabled list Tuesday with a hip injury. Mattingly also mentioned minor-league pitcher Red Patterson as an option.

Paul Maholm rocked by Marlins for fourth loss

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5/15/2014) Dodgers starting pitcher Paul Maholm never seemed comfortable Wednesday, as he suffered through his worst loss of the season against the Marlins.

Maholm opened the game with a scoreless first inning, but the Marlins jumped on him shortly thereafter. He was tagged for six runs in the second inning, though only one was earned, and then the Marlins put up four more before he was pulled in the fourth inning.

Maholm was charged with 10 runs -- five earned -- in 3 2/3 innings if work, allowing 11 hits and three walks for his fourth loss of the season. He is now 1-4 with a 5.40 ERA in 40 innings of work, with his next start set for Wednesday against the Mets.

Paul Maholm can't make it past sixth frame vs. Giants

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5/10/2014) Dodgers pitcher Paul Maholm (1-3) was unable to make it past the sixth inning on Friday, suffering his third loss of the season in a 3-1 defeat to the Giants. The southpaw surrendered a two-run home run to Brandon Crawford and was charged with three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out two in 5 2/3 innings.

Maholm has allowed three-plus runs in three of his last four starts, He owns a 4.71 ERA, a 1/51 WHIP and 14:15 K:BB ratio in 36 1/3 innings. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Marlins.

Dodgers rotation plans remain unchanged

He owns a 4.70 ERA and 12:11 K:BB ratio in 30 2/3 innings. He's a contender to move to the bullpen with Clayton Kershaw returning from the disabled list.

Paul Maholm gets job done for first win

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4/27/2014) Dodgers starting pitcher Paul Maholm pitched well Saturday against the Rockies, tossing a quality start for his first win of the season.

Maholm held the Rockies to just two runs in seven innings of work, despite falling behind early. He scattered six hits and a walk in his seven innings of work, while striking out three and throwing 53 of 84 pitches for strikes as the Dodgers won, 6-2.

Maholm is now 1-2 with a 4.74 ERA in 24 2/3 innings, and his next start is somewhat up in the air. Though he is scheduled to start Friday in Miami, Maholm is the leading candidate to be bumped should Clayton Kershaw make an earlier-than-expected return from the disabled list.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Maholm managed to draw a walk himself and score a run in the sixth inning to knot the game up at 1-1. That took him off the hook for the potential loss, which he didn't deserve after his solid performance. Maholm owns a 4.97 ERA and 4:5 K:BB ratio in 12 2/3 innings over five appearances (two starts). HIs next start is scheduled to come Monday against the Phillies at home.

Josh Beckett backs into starting spot over Paul Maholm

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(3/29/2014) Neither Josh Beckett nor Paul Maholm enjoyed a sterling spring, but the former has emerged with the Dodgers fifth rotation spot. Apparently, it was by default.

Beckett had his upper right rib removed to prevent it from pressuring a nerve that was causing numbness in his pitching hand. He performed poorly in 8 1/3 innings early this spring, compiling a 5.63 ERA and 1.32 WHIP before injuring his thumb by slamming it in a clubhouse door. He was placed on the disabled list, but is scheduled to pitch in a simulated game Monday.

Maholm fared no better, giving up six earned runs in 7 2/3 spring innings with a 1.57 WHIP. The result is that Beckett, whose early-season status remains unknown, is the fifth starter.

"That's the way we've played it," Don Mattingly told the Los Angeles Times. "We always felt like Josh had the upper hand. But we really didn't know where the health was going to be, how that was going to go. ... But Josh has seemed to cross every hurdle at this point."

The veteran is battling Dan Haren and Josh Beckett for the fifth spot in the rotation.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(3/2/2014) Dodgers pitchers Josh Beckett and Paul Maholm both tossed two scoreless innings during Sunday's Cactus League contest against the Padres.

Beckett made his first appearance since suffering finger numbness that led to thoracic outlet syndrome surgery in May of 2013. He allowed a single to Yonder Alonso for his only blemish of the afternoon. He struck out three in his first spring action.

Maholm, who was dealing with elbow tenderness in camp, allowed only one hit -- a leadoff single to Cameron Maybin in the fourth inning. He did not issue a walk or a strikeout in a 3-3 tie.

Paul Maholm feels fine after bullpen work

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2/22/2014) A bullpen session Saturday provided encouragement for Dodgers left-hander Paul Maholm. He completed it without pain after having experienced elbow and forearm soreness previously in camp.

Maholm said he was able to utilize his entire repertoire. His discomfort had prevented him from throwing off a mound in the last week. He is the only Dodgers starter that has not thrown live batting practice.

If Maholm indeed signed with the Dodgers, it would mark his fourth team since 2011. He finished 10-11 with a 4.41 ERA with the Braves last season.
