by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4/16/2014) The Rangers got a big boost from an unexpected source Tuesday, as Kevin Kouzmanoff carried the team to a 5-0 win over the Mariners.

Kouzmanoff did much of the heavy lifting offensively while extending his season-opening hit streak to six games. He went 3 for 4 with three RBI, and each of his hits went for extra bases as he remains scorching hot to open the season.

Kouzmanoff is hitting .450/.522/.750 with five RBI and three runs scored in six games since being called up last week.

(4/9/2014) The Rangers have purchased the contract of third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff from Triple-A Round Rock and designated for assignment right-hander Seth Rosin.

The promotion of Kouzmanoff could mean the Rangers are pessimistic about the immediate future of standout third baseman Adrian Beltre, who is dealing with a left quad injury.

Rangers hand out minor-league contracts

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/12/2013) The Rangers signed third baseman Brent Lillibridge, second baseman Josh Wilson, third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff, right-hander Armando Rodriguez and right-hander Doug Mathis to minor-league contracts Thursday. Lillibridge, Wilson, Kouzmanoff and Rodriguez also received invitations to spring training.

Kouzmanoff is the most notable of these players, having hit 15-plus homers in four straight seasons from 2007 to 2010. But the 32-year-old hasn't played in the majors since 2011, which he split between the Athletics and the Rockies.

Marlins make plethora of roster moves

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(3/26/2013) The Marlins made several roster moves on Tuesday, reports the Palm Beach Post. Miami optioned left-handed reliever Dan Jennings to Triple-A New Orleans. Infielders Nick Green, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Matt Downs, Jordan Brown and pitcher Zach Phillips all were reassigned to minor league camp.

CBS Sports Baseball Insider Jon Heyman suggests Green could opt out of his contract. Green, who was battling for a backup infield spot, hit .250 this spring with two RBI over 40 at-bats. He played in seven games for the Marlins last year and hit .174.

The 31-year-old Kouzmanoff hit .345 this spring with three homers and eight RBI but never seriously contended for the third base job.

Downs, 29, hit just .146 this spring over 41 at-bats after hitting only .202 with the Astros last year over 91 games.

Jennings, 25, had a rough spring after a terrific 22 games with the Marlins last year. He pitched to a 1.89 ERA over 19 innings last season but gave up nine runs -- six earned -- over eight spring innings and will begin the year in the minors.
