Rangers give 3B Brown spring invite


(1/7/2010) The Rangers have signed free agent infielder Matt B. Brown to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training. Brown, primarily a third baseman, appeared in 15 games over 2007 and 2008 for the Angels, his only major league appearance in his nine professional seasons. Brown spent most of last season at Triple-A Salt Lake, where he hit .245 with 13 home runs and 69 RBI in 107 games.

Super prospects 3B Brandon Wood, 2B Sean Rodriguez and INF Matt B. Brown will be headed to Triple-A Salt Lake, instead, reports MLB.com on Wednesday. "I'm going to go down and hit bullets, make plays, do what I've done all spring," Brown said. "What else can you do?"

Angels add Brown as infield depth


(9/7/2008) After beating Chicago 3-2 on Sunday, the Angels purchased the contract of infielder Freddy Sandoval, and recalled infielder Matt Brown and catcher Bobby Wilson from Salt Lake. Brown, who is 1-for-18 in nine career games, was batting .320 with 21 homers and 67 RBI in Triple-A. Wilson, who went 1-for-1 in his major league debut with the Angels on April 28, was batting .312 with four homers and 45 RBI in Triple-A. To make room for Sandoval on the 40-man roster, Los Angeles released minor league pitcher Jeff Kennard.

Angels' Brown to play for Team USA


(7/17/2008) Los Angeles 3B Matt Brown was selected as a member of the 2008 United States Olympic team and will play with Team USA throughout the month of August. Brown was playing at the Angels' Triple-A affiliate in Salt Lake City and has a .326 batting average in 83 games. He's also got 20 homers and 62 RBI.
