Nationals give Coats minor deal


(12/15/2010) The Nationals signed OF Buck Coats to a minor-league deal on Wednesday. Coats split last season between the Royals' and White Sox's Triple-A affiliates, hitting .296 with seven homers.

Coats could get called on


(5/9/2008) The Toronto Star reports that the Blue Jays might be looking for a right-handed hitter to complement Matt Stairs in the DH spot -- especially with a glut of left-handed pitchers coming up on the schedule. Brad Wilkerson, who is left-handed but hits left-handers very well, was given his unconditional release by the Mariners on Thursday. "We're looking for someone who can serve us in a role that helps us do some things. I'm going to keep it vague. ... It's all pending on some things I can't say right now," Ricciardi said. "By (Friday), we'll have something, whether externally or internally."

(4/12/2008) The Blue Jays optioned outfielder Buck Coats to Triple-A Syracuse after Friday's game against the at Texas. The Blue Jays recalled infielder Joe Inglett from Syracuse. Coats made his first start of the season Friday and went 1-for-3 with a walk.

(8/30/2007) The Cubs traded minor league outfielder Buck Coats to the Reds on Thursday for a player to be named or cash. Coats was optioned to Triple-A Louisville. He had been playing at Triple-A Iowa, where the 25-year-old was hitting .303 with 11 homers, 59 RBI and 18 stolen bases. Coats was an 18th-round pick by the Cubs in the June 2000 draft.
