Conor Jackson retires from baseball

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(4/14/2013) Orioles outfielder Conor Jackson has decided to retire from baseball, MiLB.com reports Sunday. Jackson just missed making the Orioles' opening day roster.

The 31-year-old was hitting just .200 over his first nine games at Triple-A Norfolk with two RBI and four strikeouts. With Steve Pearce struggling for the Orioles, Jackson could have been in line for a call up at some point but chose to hang 'em up.

Jackson showing off

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/5/2013) Orioles outfielder Conor Jackson, who is battling for a spot on the team’s opening day roster, homered again Tuesday against the Blue Jay. Jackson homered twice two days before. Jackson added a single and a double in the game, and now has three home runs, six RBI and seven runs scored in 19 spring at bas. Jackson knows that it won’t necessarily be his bat that earns him a job, "Buck (Showalter) is a little-things-in-the-game type of guy,” he told MASNSports.com “It's not going to be whoever hits the best. I think it's going to be the overall aspect of baserunning and where to be on a play on defense. It's all the little things that are going to accumulate throughout the spring and be the final decision-maker." however. “

(3/3/2013) Baltimore utility option Conor Jackson is trying to win a spot on the Orioles' opening day roster, though he's not currently on the 40-man. Jackson had a big game on Sunday in Grapefruit League competition against the Phillies. He homered twice in the game and drove in four runs. Jackson went deep following Matt Wieters in the first inning for a solo shot and added a three-run blast in the fifth. He finished 2 for 3 and is batting .313 on the spring.
