Giants 3B Casey McGehee designated for assignment on Tuesday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(6/30/2015) The Giants have announced on Tuesday that third baseman Casey McGehee has been designated for assignment. McGehee has had a rough go of it in his first season with San Francisco.

This season, the veteran third baseman was batting .213 with two home runs in 49 games. The Giants have already given the starting third base job to the hot-swinging Matt Duffy, making McGehee expendable.

In a corresponding move, infielder Ehire Adrianza was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento.

Report: Giants recall 3B Casey McGehee from Triple-A

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(6/5/2015) Casey McGehee is no longer the starting third baseman for the Giants, but at least he's back with the club, which has promoted him from Triple-A Sacramento, per NBC Sports.

The 32 year old was tearing it up at that level after struggling mightily with San Francisco. He batted .357 (15-for-42) at Sacramento with two homers and three doubles.

Matt Duffy appears set for now as the starter. But his current 3-for-24 slide could open the door for McGehee, who signed a $4.8 million contract in the offseason.

Giants GM: Matt Duffy will continue to see time at 3B

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(6/4/2015) Giants general manager Bobby Evans revealed that he'll continue to give Matt Duffy more opportunities at third base, while Casey McGehee works on climbing back to the majors.

Duffy has been the team's regular third baseman since May 17. He is hitting .238 (15 for 63) with two homers and seven RBI over that span.

"We've given Matt Duffy a long look there and we'll continue to," Evans said, per MLB Network Radio. "There's a chance [Casey] McGehee could be back up here soon as well.

"We'll continue to monitor that, but we have fallback options in that area."

Giants 3B Casey McGehee accepts assignment to Triple-A

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(5/26/2015) Giants third baseman Casey McGehee has accepted his assignment and been optioned to Triple-A Sacramento, the team announced on Tuesday.

"I think it's always surprising when stuff like this happens," MCGehee said on Sunday to CSN Bay Area. "I haven't had a whole lot of time to process it. Obviously I'm disappointed. It's not the kind of news you want to hear ever. The only thing I can say is I wish that obviously I would have gotten off to a little different start.

"If you get off to the kind of start I feel I’m capable of and expect of myself, we're not having this conversation."

McGehee was designated for assignment last week to make room for Hunter Strickland after struggling to a .200 average with nine RBI in 110 at-bats this season.

In 84 at-bats, McGehee is hitting .179 with two homers, three doubles and seven RBI.

The Giants are currently the underdogs (+145) against Houston.

Giants 3B Casey McGehee batting eighth again Saturday

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5/9/2015) Perhaps the eighth spot in the lineup brings good luck to Giants third baseman Casey McGehee. He broke out of a horrific slump Friday night batting in that spot for the first time this season and remains there Saturday against the same Marlins.

McGehee, who began the year as the sixth hitter and batted as high as fifth, managed hits in only two of his previous eight games as his slash line tumbled to .178/.231/.260.

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

McGehee is getting a second consecutive day off to clear his head after scuffling at the plate to start the year. Matt Duffy will get his second straight start.

The Giants are currently the favorites (-138) against San Diego.

Giants' Casey McGehee feeling the heat from fans

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(5/6/2015) Giants third baseman Casey McGehee can't quite put things together yet at the plate, leading to manager Bruce Bochy to sit him in Tuesday's game. Over the weekend, McGehee was hit with a smattering of boos when he struck out with a chance to drive home runs. He said he understands, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

"I have no hard feelings toward anybody who got on me last night," McGehee said. "There were times last night, if I were up there, I'd have booed myself. I'm looking forward to the day I get things going and the boos turn around."

McGehee, who is hitting .181 with three RBI in 72 at-bats, thinks he's starting to have some better at-bats.

"I felt especially on the weekend I was swinging the bat pretty good," he said. "The trick is to just keep going. I've been down and out, counted out, before. The only way I know how to do it is to keep showing up, preparing, keeping my nose down and keep working.

"I guarantee you there wasn't one person in the stands who was more frustrated or disappointed than myself. It's not easy. (Booing) is not something you look forward to. At the same time, I'm frustrated, too."

Matt Duffy in, Casey McGehee out of Giants lineup Tuesday

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5/5/2015) Struggling Giants third baseman Casey McGehee has been benched for the Tuesday night game against tough San Diego right-hander Andrew Cashner.

His replacement against San Diego is Matt Duffy, who is doing no better with just two hits in his last 20 at-bats.

Giants' Casey McGehee finding a rhythm at the plate

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(5/2/2015) Giants third baseman Casey McGehee is starting to feel it. The big man struggled early on at the plate, hitting just .169 in April. Manager Bruce Bochy knew the break out performance was coming, according to MLB.com.

"For whatever reason, it'd taken awhile just to settle in, period," McGehee said. "It's all on me. It's not anything anybody else has done or anything like that. Just kind of finding that rhythm of maybe not trying to do too much and being able to finally start to kind of relax. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is not so much focus on our results and just kind of focus on the things you can control."

McGehee went 3 for 4 at the plate Saturday with an RBI, boosting his average to .200 on the year.

"Sometimes you'd like to think you're mentally tough enough for whatever, but sometimes you just need to see something good happen," McGehee said. "It goes a long ways towards helping building confidence."

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

However Mets officials have denied that the team is in discussions with anyone to trade Murphy.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy sticking with Casey McGehee at third

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

The veteran, who was moved to seventh in the batting order for Friday and Saturday's games, is hitting just .163 with a home run and two RBI in 43 at-bats. Bochy wants McGehee to get his confidence back, reports the Mercury News.

"We've got to get him to back off a little," Bochy said to CSN Bay Area. "Less is more. He's just trying so hard. You guys saw him (Friday night), he's taking it really hard. It's so early and we've got to get him going. He knocked in (76) runs last year. He can hit, and he's going to hit."

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
