Casey McGehee gets tossed after arguing a missed call by umpire

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/11/2014) Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee was ejected Thursday night in Milwaukee after arguing a missed call by home plate umpire Jeff Kellogg. His teammate Giancarlo Stanton was sent off the field in an ambulance after being struck in the face by a Mike Fiers pitch. On the very next pitch, Fiers plunked Reed Johnson, but Kellogg called him out on strikes, which prompted McGehee's ejection.

McGehee is hitting .294 with four homers and 70 RBI over 551 at-bats this season.

Struggling Casey McGehee out of Thursday lineup

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(8/7/2014) The first extended slump of the season has Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee out of the lineup for the Thursday night game in Pittsburgh. Donovan Solano is set to man the position.

McGehee has just seven hits in his last 54 at-bats with no RBI in nine games. His average has fallen under .300 for the first time since June 6.

Marlins more likely to extend McGehee

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(7/22/2014) The Marlins are more likely to extend Casey McGehee than trade him, according to MLB.com.

McGehee's name has come up in trade rumors recently, but the club isn't inclined to deal him. McGehee is signed cheap, and still has one more year of arbitration. The club can bring him back at a higher price, or opt to hand him an extension. The team is willing to do that since McGehee is considered a leader in the clubhouse. McGehee is hitting .322/.389/.399 over 376 at-bats.

Casey McGehee drawing interest on the market

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(7/22/2014) Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee is drawing interest on the trade market, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

McGehee is in the middle of a resurgent season. After spending 2013 in Japan, McGehee signed with the Marlins during the offseason. He's returned with a vengeance, hitting .322/.389/.399 over 376 at-bats.

The Mariners are rumored to be one of the teams in on McGehee. The club is in the middle of a wild card race, and is looking to upgrade their bats. It's unclear what other clubs have shown interest in McGehee.

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/20/2014) Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee finally put an end to his long home run drought Sunday against the Giants, connecting for his first home run in 59 games during a 3-2 win. McGehee gave Miami an early 2-0 lead with a two-out, two-run homer off Tim Lincecum in the first inning.

McGehee, who has two home runs, finished 2 for 4. He's hit safely in all but one of 15 July games. He is batting .390 (23 for 59) with one home run, two doubles and eight RBI this month.

Hitters to avoid in the second half

(7/13/2014) Like what you've gotten from Josh Harrison, Casey McGehee, Kurt Suzuki or Erick Aybar so far? Hoping for a rebound from Allen Craig? You might want to look into alternatives.

Check out my latest column to find out why.

Casey McGehee doubles twice, drives in two in win Monday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(6/23/2014) Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee went 2 for 5 with two doubles and two RBI in his team's 4-0 win over the Phillies Monday.

McGehee knocked a two-run double in the first inning, and it would be the only scoring in the game until the Marlins were able to tack on two more runs in the ninth. The two runs were the third baseman's first RBI in his last seven games. McGehee has hit .309/.375/.392 with one home run and 46 RBI in 288 at-bats.

Casey McGehee leads Miami to comeback win

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/15/2014) Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee pretty much single-handedly led Miami to a 3-2 comeback win in 10 innings Sunday against the Pirates.

McGehee first tied the game at 2 with a two-out, two-RBI double off Tony Watson in the bottom of the eighth inning. McGeehe then won the game in the bottom of the 10th inning with a sac fly off Jared Hughes.

He finished 3 for 4 with his 16th double, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. McGeehe is batting .419 (18 for 43) with three doubles, seven RBI and eight runs in his last 10 games.

Singles-happy Casey McGehee still knocking them in

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(6/12/2014) Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee has been one of the most underappreciated surprises of the 2014 season. He has given pitchers second thoughts about pitching around Giancarlo Stanton.

McGehee has continued to rake. He has a seven-game hitting streak, during which he has 13 hits in 30 at-bats with three RBI and seven runs scored. Strangely, he is on pace to hit three home runs and drive in 100 this season.

Though 60 of his 76 hits this year have been singles, he is batting .305 and has provided production from the cleanup spot.

Casey McGehee scores four times in win

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6/5/2014) Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee had scored just four runs in his previous 10 games entering play Thursday against the Rays, a total he matched during the course of an 11-6 win.

McGehee went 4 for 5 in the game, his second four-hit performance in the last eight games. He had just one extra-base hit, meaning he scored from first on three of his runs. He did not drive in a run in the win, despite his four hits.

McGehee has been surprisingly productive this season for the Marlins, after spending the 2013 campaign out of the majors. He is hitting .298/.355/.382 in 59 games.

Casey McGehee slugs first home run Saturday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/11/2014) Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee delivered his first home run of the season in his team's 9-3 loss to the Padres Saturday.

McGehee has been an RBI machine in the first six weeks, but he finally got off the no-homer list with a two-run shot in the first inning. It was his only hit in four at-bats, leaving him with a .307/.376/.407 line and 25 RBI in 140 at-bats.

Casey McGehee getting on base a lot lately

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/7/2014) Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee had a single in two at-bats and walked twice during a 1-0 win Wednesday against the Mets.

McGehee has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, but Wednesday was just the second time in his last eight games he didn't have multiple hits. McGehee is batting .438 (14 for 32) with four doubles, seven RBI and four walks in his last eight games.

Casey McGehee records three-hits in 10 innings

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4/26/2014) Marlins infielder Casey McGehee showed there is still life in his bat Saturday, with a three-hit game in a 7-6 win over the Mets.

McGehee was 3 for 5 with all singles in the game, including a pair of runs scored. He is now hitting .300/.366/.368 with 16 RBI in 24 games.

Casey McGehee thriving at Marlins Park

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/20/2014) Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee is doing his best to take advantage of the spacious dimensions at Marlins Park.

The veteran third baseman entered play Sunday vs. Seattle batting .341 (15 for 44) with four doubles, one triple and 14 RBI in 12 home games, as opposed to hitting .217 (5 for 23) with one double and one RBI in six road games.

"There are a lot of places to get hits," McGehee said of hitting at home, per MLB.com. "Hitting the ball out of the ballpark is a little more of a challenge here than at some other places. But I feel like I'm strong enough that if I do catch one good, I will be able to drive it out of the ballpark. But I think if you go up with that as your sole goal it's going to make for a long year."

McGehee attributes his strong start to establishing a better approach after he learned to be patient seeing so many forkballs and offspeed pitches playing in Japan last season.

"I think more than anything it was just going and playing every day, and getting back into the mode of being able to have an approach at the plate, and not be so result-oriented all the time, which is easier said than done," McGehee said.

Casey McGehee slumping after sizzling start

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4/10/2014) Just after Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee began opening some eyes, he started closing them again. The hot streak that made him one of the most added Fantasy players has abruptly ended.

The former Brewer, who stunningly compiled a .285/.337/.464 stat line in 2010, slammed nine hits in 20 at-bats to start this season with Miami. He even landed the cleanup spot and racked up 10 RBI in his first five games. But he has just one hit in his last 12 at-bats to shrink his batting average to .313.

Casey McGehee settles in as Marlins' cleanup hitter

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/2/2014) Hitting behind Giancarlo Stanton seems to suit Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee just fine. McGehee plated another run Tuesday against the Rockies and has five RBI through two games as the team's cleanup hitter.

McGehee, who had four RBI in the season opener Monday, is batting .429 (3 for 7) with a .500 on-base percentage, .714 slugging percentage and one walk in two games.

Casey McGehee hitting cleanup Monday

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(3/31/2014) Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee is hitting cleanup Monday against the Rockies.

The move is a surprise, as McGehee spent all of last season in Japan. He last played in the majors in 2012, and hit .217 in 318 at-bats that year. He'll hit behind Giancarlo Stanton.

(12/18/2013) The Marlins agreed with third baseman Casey McGehee on a one-year, $1.1 million deal Wednesday, according to the Miami Herald. McGehee's deal also includes incentives.

McGehee will likely begin the season as the Marlins' primary third baseman. He spent the 2013 season playing for the Rakuten Golden Eagles of the Japanese Pacific League and last played in the majors for the Yankees in 2012.

McGehee spent last season with the Rakuten Golden Eagles, and won a championship in the NPB. McGehee said he hasn't ruled out returning to Japan, but said he wants to consider his options in MLB. "I wouldn’t regret going back to Japan, but I’d at least like to know if there’s a chance here," McGehee said. McGehee last played in the majors in 2012 with the Pirates and Yankees.
