(9/28/2014) Pirates catcher Chris Stewart suffered a wrist injury in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Reds after going 2 for 3 at the plate, but X-rays on the injured wrist came back negative, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Stewart indicated that the wrist was stiff and sore after the game. His availability for Wednesday's Wild Card matchup is in doubt, and regular starting catcher Russell Martin is also banged up.

"[Stewart's] in a good place," Hurdle said. "He said he felt good (Monday) and after catching seven innings and nine innings, that’s a good sign."

(4/11/2014) The Pirates want catcher Chris Stewart to continue his minor-league rehab assignment at Triple-A Indianapolis, where he was moved Friday, according to MLB.com.

The team wants Stewart to catch some full games as well as back-to-back games before considering bringing him back from the disabled list. The team does not have a specific timetable for Stewart to get back from the DL, as he continues to recover from offseason knee surgery.

Stewart is slowly working his way back from mid-March knee surgery. His timetable for recovery gives him a tentative expected return to the majors in late April.

(8/13/2013) Yankees catcher Chris Stewart said his hand is fine and he's just getting a day off so Austin Romine can get some more playing time Tuesday, The Journal News reports. 

Stewart's production and playing time have dropped off recently and Romine has shown improvement. 

"I've talked about playing Ro a little bit more, and you will see him a little bit more," manager Joe Girardi said. "But Stew is still going to catch a lot."

Stewart, batting .219 on the year, has gone just 7 for 58 (.121) over his last 21 games. He has three RBI over that stretch.

Stewart went 2 for 2 with a walk in the 2-1 loss Sunday. He also stole his fourth base of the season. 

The 31-year-old backstop went 3 for 6 in the series with four walks for the Yankees. He's batting .248 on the year with 13 RBI.
