(3/12/2007) Outfielder Rajai Davis and catcher Carlos Maldonado, who spent time with Pittsburgh late last season, were among 11 players cut by the Pirates on Monday. Optioned to Double-A Altoona were left-handers Dave Davidson and Josh Shortslef, right-hander Romulo Sanchez, infielder Javier Guzman and outfielder Nyjer Morgan. Also reassigned to the minor league camp were right-handers Franquelis Osoria and Allan Simpson, infielder Eddy Garabito and outfielder Vic Buttler.

(11/21/2005) Utility infielder Yurendell DeCaster (.280, 11 HRs and 61 RBI in Triple-A), SS Javier Guzman (.279-8-59 in 137 Class A and Double-A games), 3B Craig Stansberry (.258-21-86 in 140 Class A and Double-A games) and pitcher Josh Sharpless were added to the Pirates' 40-man roster. Sharpless, a 24th-round draft pick in 2003, allowed only three earned runs in 36 1/3 innings -- an 0.74 ERA -- at Class A Lynchburg and Double-A Altoona.
