(7/20/2014) Rays designated hitter Sean Rodriguez went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBI in his team's 5-1 win over the Twins Saturday.

Rodriguez smacked a two-run home run in the second inning Saturday to put his team up 3-0 then increased the lead to five runs with an RBI single in the seventh. He has hit .240/.288/.520 with 10 home runs and 35 RBI in 150 at-bats.

(7/7/2014) Rays designated hitter Sean Rodriguez cranked out four hits in his team's win over the Tigers in Detroit Sunday night.

Rodriguez singled in the first, sixth and ninth innings, respectively. He added a double in the seventh inning and finished 4 for 5 with one run scored in a 7-3 victory. He is hitting .246 with eight homers and 29 RBI in 130 at-bats.

(7/2/2014) Rays infielder Sean Rodriguez drove in three runs during a 6-3 win Wednesday at N.Y. Yankees. Rodriguez had an RBI single in the fourth inning and came back with a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning.

Rodriguez, who finished 2 for 4, entered play Wednesday batting just .122 (5 for 41) with one home run and four RBI in his previous 18 games (11 starts).

(5/27/2014) Rays infielder Sean Rodriguez went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, a sacrifice fly and three RBI in his team's 9-6 loss to the Blue Jays Tuesday.

Rodriguez opened the scoring in the fourth inning on his sixth double of the year then followed it up with a sixth-inning sacrifice fly for his second RBI. His triple came in the eighth inning and also brought home one runner. Rodriguez has hit .250/.284/.592 with six home runs and 20 RBI in 76 at-bats.


Three players ejected from Sunday's Red Sox/Rays game

(5/25/2014) Red Sox outfielder Jonny Gomes, Rays shortstop Yunel Escobar and Rays infielder Sean Rodriguez were all ejected from Sunday's game for their roles in a benches-clearing altercation.

The incident started after Escobar exchanged words with the Red Sox bench after he took third base on a fielder's indifference in the bottom of the seventh inning. The benches cleared as Escobar became more animated and moved toward the Boston dugout. Gomes then rushed in from left field and shoved Escobar, which escalated the ordeal.

Gomes was the first player ejected from the game. The umps then decided to toss Escobar. Finally, it was announced Rodriguez, who put Tampa Bay ahead 6-3 in the seventh inning with a pinch-hit home run, was also ejected. Escobar added a two-RBI double in the seventh before being tossed from the game. Gomes had a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning, which tied the game at 3.

(5/23/2014) Rays outfielder Sean Rodriguez only had one trip to the plate Thursday, but he made it count in a 5-2 win over the Athletics.

Rodriguez entered the extra-innings affair late, and stepped to the plate for the first time in the 11th inning with two runners on base. He made his impact felt in his lone at-bat, as he ended the game with a three-run home run.

Rodriguez is hitting just .235 in 68 at-bats, but he does have five home runs and 14 RBI, along with an .807 OPS.

(5/2/2014) Rays infielder Sean Rodriguez found his swing during a big game Thursday, in a 6-5 win over the Red Sox in the second half of a doubleheader.

Rodriguez, who was hitless in his lone at-bat during the first game Thursday, came out on fire in the second. He went 3 for 4, with all three hits going for extra bases. He clubbed a pair of doubles and then added a two-run home run the sixth inning, finishing 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two driven in.

Rodriguez is hitting .235/.297/.676 in 34 at-bats, with seven of his eight hits going for extra bases.

(4/19/2014) Rays infielder Sean Rodriguez went yard for the second time in as many days Friday night against the Yankees.

Rodriguez made a pinch-hit appearance for David Dejesus in the seventh, grounding into a fielder's choice. In his second at-bat, he took reliever Adam Warren deep for a two-run shot in the eighth inning. He went 1 for 2 with two runs scored and two RBI in an 11-5 victory. He is hitting .250 with three homers and seven RBI in just 16 at-bats.

(4/4/2014) Rays infielder Sean Rodriguez, who missed the previous game to attend the birth of his son, got the start at first base and made his presence felt by launching his first home run of the season in an 8-1 win over Texas.

Rodriguez was plunked with the bases loaded in the opening frame and bounced back with a three-run home run off Joe Saunders in the third inning. He also added a double and finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored and four RBI, improving his batting average to .286 on the year.

(4/3/2014) Rays infielder Sean Rodriguez is expected back from the paternity list after missing just one game, after the birth of his son Thursday. According to the Tampa Bay Times,  Rodriguez will return to the team in time for Friday's game against the Rangers.

Rodriguez's return will likely lead to Vince Belnome making a swift return to Triple-A Durham, after he was called up for Thursday's game and did not make an appearance.

Rodriguez is in his second year of arbitration eligibility, leaving him one remaining season of team control before reaching free agency. He hit .246/.320/.385 with five home runs and 23 RBI in 195 at-bats last season.

(8/21/2013) Rays utility player Sean Rodriguez got ahold of a Wei-Yin Chen fastball in the fourth inning of Wednesday's loss at Baltimore. Rodriguez lined a home run to center field for his third HR of the year.

Rodriguez, who homered for the first time since May, went 1 for 3 on the game with a strikeout and is batting .255 on the season.

The starter at first base in Wednesday's game for manager Joe Maddon, Rodriguez only has four hits in his last 10 appearances. He only has 157 at-bats on the season in a part-time role.

(7/1/2013) Tampa Bay outfielder Sean Rodriguez posted a career-high four hits Monday night during a 12-0 win at Houston. Rodriguez doubled twice and drove in three runs. 

He drove in a run with a single to left in the seventh inning. He drove in the final two runs of the game with a double to center in the eighth. 

Rodriguez finished 4 for 6 and is batting .261 on the year. The 28-year-old recorded his first hits since a two-hit game on June 20 at the Yankees. He has 14 RBI over 92 at-bats.

That hit came against the Red Sox on May 11. He's batting .246 on the year over 69 at-bats and isn't an everyday player for the Rays.

Manager Joe Maddon noted that Rodriguez could see some time at first base this season, reports MLB.com Wednesday. "You have to figure with Longo at third, Escobar at short, Ryan Roberts at second, me at first, that gives you two extra right-handed bats in the lineup [against a left-hander]," Rodriguez said.
