Dodgers looking to trade 1-2 veteran outfielders

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/10/2014) Rival executives expect the Dodgers to trade at least one veteran outfielder, and potentially two, as they attempt to sort out their crowded outfield situation, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

Sources suggest Carl Crawford and Andre Ethier are the two outfielders the Dodgers seem most likely to trade, Heyman reports.

FOX Sports MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal reported Sunday the Dodgers are aggressively trying to trade Crawford, Ethier or Matt Kemp. The Dodgers are also considering offering money in a trade since all three players have big contracts.

Andre Ethier gets pregame work at first base

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8/8/2014) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier worked at first base with manager Don Mattingly before Friday's game, MLB.com reports.

Ethier has played one inning at first base in his career, and that came in a game in 2010. He hasn't seen regular playing time in the outfield lately, logging just one complete game since July 22. Ethier has hit .245/.308/.369 with four home runs and 38 RBI in 290 at-bats.

Dodgers not expected to make change to OF alignment

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/9/2014) Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Wednesday he doesn't expect to change the outfield alignment as Carl Crawford (ankle) is set to return from the disabled list this week, per MLB.com.

"I'm not really planning on making any big changes right now," Mattingly said.

Mattingly added he's happy with Matt Kemp in left field, and the platoon of Andre Ethier and Scott Van Slyke in center field.

"I like what's going on in center," Mattingly said. "We're playing pretty well. We'll talk about it. But as long as we're playing well and continue to win, we'll have conversations with everybody."

Andre Ethier back, Hanley Ramirez still out for Dodgers

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(6/28/2014) The Dodgers have returned one standout Saturday, but not the other.

Outfielder Andre Ethier is in the lineup against St. Louis after not starting Friday night with a swollen knee. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez, however, remains sidelined for the fifth straight game with a shoulder issue.

Andre Ethier sidelined by swollen knee Friday

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6/27/2014) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier got the night off Friday against the Cardinals, due to swelling in his right knee. He apparently fouled a pitch off the knee Thursday, but manager Don Mattingly told the Los Angeles Times he expects Ethier back in the lineup Saturday

(6/10/2014) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier was back in the starting lineup Tuesday at Cincinnati after missing two straight starts with a back injury. Ethier heads into Tuesday's game batting .147 (5 for 34) in his last nine games.

Slumping Andre Ethier on singles drought

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(6/4/2014) It took all of seven games for the batting average of Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier to fall from .279 to .248.

Ethier, who strangely has not hit a single since May 24, has just two hits in his last 24 at-bats. His stat line has been weakened to .248/.309/.382.

Andre Ethier drive in four with rare homer

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5/28/2014) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier ended a long power drought Tuesday, as he clubbed his first home run in nearly a month and a half in a 6-3 win over the Reds.

Ethier opened the game with a solo shot in the second inning, and that wasn't all he contributed. He added a three-run triple in the fourth inning, finishing the game 2 for 4 with two runs scored and four driven in.

Ethier is hitting .277 with three home runs and 25 RBI in 45 games this season.

Matt Kemp's glove costing him playing time

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5/23/2014) Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp's place in the team's short-term plans has taken a hit, as manager Don Mattingly told reports Friday he may no longer be the team's center fielder everyday.

Kemp's bat has been adequate so far this season, but an offseason ankle operation appears to have taken its toll on Kemp's abilities in the outfielder. Mattingly started Andre Ethier Friday against the Phillies and noted that, "center field has been a situation we continue to look at."

Kemp is not dealing with any lingering injuries at this point, but admitted to the Los Angeles Times his defense has been lacking so far.

"I'm probably not getting as a good jump as I need to on some plays," Kemp said. "I have to keep working and practicing on my defense."

Andre Ethier gets a rest Saturday

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(5/17/2014) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier is not in the team's starting lineup Saturday.

Ethier has been seeing reduced playing lately. The club has been going with Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig and Carl Crawford in the outfield, which means Ethier is the odd man out most of the time. He's hitting .259 in 116 at-bats.

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(5/10/2014) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier is not in the team's starting lineup Saturday.

The team will go with Matt Kemp, Carl Crawford and Yasiel Puig in the outfield. Ethier has been successful against starter Matt Cain in the past, hitting .429 in 70 at-bats. He won't get a chance to add to those numbers unless he's used as a pinch-hitter.

Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp solidifying their roles

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5/8/2014) The Dodgers are moving away from a full-time rotation in the outfielder, as manager Don Mattingly told the Los Angeles Times Thursday.

Mattingly told reporters Carl Crawford and Andre Ethier will battle for playing time at left field. That means Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp are solidified in their roles in right and center field, respectively. When they are out of the lineup, it will only be due to rest, Mattingly said.

Ethier has actually appeared in more games than any of the four outfielders, but it seems like Puig and Kemp will play more regularly moving forward; both are the only ones of the four with an OPS over .800.

Andre Ethier sitting Sunday

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(5/4/2014) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier was not in the team's starting lineup Sunday against the Marlins.

Ethier will sit in favor of Carl Crawford, who will start out in left. In 87 at-bats, Ethier is hitting .230, with two home runs.

Don Mattingly makes multiple lineup changes for nightcap

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5/1/2014) The Dodgers are using the second game of a doubleheader and a game in an American League city Thursday to get little-used players some action.

Scott Van Slyke is set to play in left with Justin Turner starting at short. Hanley Ramirez will be used as the designated hitter. Outfielders Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford are set to sit after playing in the opener.

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Dodgers shuffles outfield for game against Giants

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4/17/2014) Scott Van Slyke will get a rare start in a crowded Dodgers outfield Thursday against San Francisco. Neither Andre Ethier nor Carl Crawford is in the lineup. The Dodgers will have three right-handed hitters in the outfield against Giants ace Madison Bumgarner.

Van Slyke has been productive in 13 at-bats with four hits, including a home run in the opening game in Australia.

Andre Ethier sitting out Saturday

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(4/5/2014) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier is sitting out Saturday.

With a lefty on the mound, manager Don Mattingly decided to give Ethier a break. Over his career, Ethier has had a tough time against left-handers. Given the team's bevy of outfielders, this could become a trend when the team takes on lefties.

Andre Ethier goes deep for the first time

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(4/5/2014) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier hit a home run for the first time this season Friday.

Ethier got off to a hot start in the game, reaching base in his first three at-bats. He walked in the second inning, drove a solo shot out to right in his second at-bat and hit a RBI single in the fifth.

Ethier finished the game 2 for 3, with 1 run scored and 2 RBI.

(3/22/2014) Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is batting cleanup in the team's starting lineup for Saturday's season opener against the Diamondbacks in Australia.

Gonzalez was scratched from Thursday's exhibition with back tightness but was fully expected to be in the lineup for the opener. The Dodgers full batting order: RF Yasiel Puig, 2B Justin Turner, SS Hanley Ramirez, 1B Gonzalez, LF Scott Van Slyke, 3B Juan Uribe, CF Andre Ethier, C A.J. Ellis, P Clayton Kershaw.

(1/8/2014) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier, who dealt with a microfracture in his lower leg during the postseason, has resumed running and has not had any setbacks this offseason, MLB.com reports.

Ethier has drawn trade interest from teams looking to alleviate the surplus in the Dodger outfield. He hit .272/.360/.423 with 12 home runs and 52 RBI in 482 at-bats.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Dodgers have a logjam in the outfield with four players capable of starting. Ethier, who is owed $71.5 million over the next four seasons, hit .272/.360/.423 with 12 home runs and 52 RBI in 482 at-bats. Ibanez, 41, hit .242/.306/.487 with 29 home runs and 65 RBI in 454 at-bats with the Mariners.

Mariners, Rangers approached Dodgers about outfielders

by Al Melchior | Data Analyst
(11/13/2013) Earlier reports indicated that the Dodgers had been contacted about each of their four top outfielders, and CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman has reported that the Mariners and Rangers are among the suitors.

Specifically, the Mariners and Rangers have expressed interest in at least one of Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford. Kemp is under contract through 2019, while both Ethier and Kemp are locked up through 2017.
