(1/26/2010) The Nationals have announced the following non-roster invites to spring training: pitchers Victor Garate, Eddie Guardado, Logan Kensing, Joel Peralta, Ryan Speier and 2009 first-round pick Drew Storen; catchers Jamie Burke and top prospect Derek Norris; infielders Eric Bruntlett, Pete Orr and Josh Whitesell; and outfielders Chris Duncan and Jerry Owens.

(12/15/2009) The Nationals signed right-handed pitchers Joel Peralta, Logan Kensing and Ryan Speier, catcher Jamie Burke, infielder Pete Orr and outfielder Jerry Owens to minor league contracts.

Speier sent down by Colorado


(7/24/2009) The Rockies added Rafael Betancourt to their roster a day after acquiring the right-handed reliever from Cleveland. The Rockies also purchased the contract of right-hander Jhoulys Chacin from Double-A Tulsa on Friday. To make room for the pitchers on the roster, Colorado designated reliever Ryan Speier for assignment and placed right-hander Manuel Corpas on the 15-day disabled list. Corpas had arthroscopic surgery Friday, removing a bone chip from his elbow.

(7/21/2009) The Colorado Rockies activated right-handed reliever Ryan Speier from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday and optioned righty Joel Peralta to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Speier's rehab moves to Triple-A


(5/27/2009) From the The Sports Xchange: RHP Ryan Speier joined Triple-A Colorado Springs after making stops on his rehab assignment at high Class A Modesto and Double-A Tulsa. Manager Clint Hurdle said Speier, who has been on the DL with a strained left hamstring since April 19, would make two or three appearances with Colorado Springs. Speier has been working on maintaining an arm slot parallel to the ground with his arm on top of the ball, which gives his pitches more sinking action and movement. Speier gave up four runs in two-thirds of an inning for Colorado Springs on Tuesday.

(4/29/2009) From the The Sports Xchange: RHP Ryan Speier threw 20 pitches in a bullpen session Monday and is scheduled to throw again Wednesday. He went on the 15-day disabled list April 21 retroactive to April 19 with a strained left hamstring. He was 0-0 with a 4.76 ERA in five games and has allowed six hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. He has been scored upon in his past two appearances. Speier has retired just one of the five first batters he has faced and has allowed the four runners he has inherited to score. Speier said his hamstring began bothering him in the waning days of spring training and reached a point where it was affecting his delivery. "I'm much more upright," he said, "and I wasn't staying down through my pitches because I'm favoring it so much."

(3/19/2009) From the The Sports Xchange: RHP Ryan Speier finished last season with 10 scoreless appearances covering 11 2/3 innings, and he has stayed in that pitching groove this spring. He posted five scoreless innings in his first four games with two hits allowed, no walks and four strikeouts. "The opportunities are out there," manager Clint Hurdle said. "Certain guys move upon them; certain guys don't move upon them. He's come in focused, and he did have some momentum at the end of last year that he's carried through."

Speier down; De Los Santos to start


(7/28/2008) The Rockies have called up left-handed pitcher Valerio De Los Santos from Triple-A Colorado Springs to start in Monday night's game at Pittsburgh. The Rockies optioned right-hander Ryan Speier to Colorado Springs to make room for De Los Santos on the roster. The 35-year-old De Los Santos was 3-5 with an ERA of 4.92 in 17 games at Colorado Springs this season, including seven starts. Jason Hirsh was MLB.com's projected starter Monday night, but De Los Santos gets the call instead.

(7/1/2008) The Colorado Rockies recalled left-handed reliever Cedrick Bowers from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday and optioned right-hander Ryan Speier. Bowers was 4-1 with a 2.97 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 39.1 innings for the Sky Sox this season. He appeared in 16 games, starting two. Bowers gives the Rockies a second left-hander in their bullpen, joining closer Brian Fuentes.

(6/4/2008) Rockies RP Ryan Speier, sidelined since May 12 because of a bruised shoulder, was activated from the disabled list Tuesday and rookie RP Alberto Arias was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

(5/29/2008) Rockies RP Ryan Speier (shoulder) began a Class A rehab assignment with Asheville Thursday. Speier lasted just 2/3 of an inning while allowing one hit, two walks and two runs. He struck out two but was charged with a blown save.

(4/8/2008) According to the Sports Xchange notes: RHP Ryan Speier won't be brought along slowly. He earned the respect of the team with the way he pitched down the stretch last year. "We have a history with him," said manager Clint Hurdle. "He was as important a part of our bullpen as anyone last September and October. He had a save in the playoffs and won three games (during the 14-1 finish to the regular season)."

(4/7/2008) The Denver Post reports that Ryan Speier allowed a hit and a walk, with one strikeout, in one-third of an inning against Arizona Sunday. He arrived with the team in the fifth inning (he was called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs earlier). "I feel good, I feel strong," he said. "It's good to be back up."

Rockies DL Vizcaino, add R. Speier


(4/5/2008) The Rockies placed RP Luis Vizcaino on the 15-day disabled list because of a right shoulder strain after their 7-2 loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday. The team called up righty Ryan Speier from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take Vizcaino's place. The move is retroactive to April 4.
