Juan Gutierrez gets roughed up in loss to Rockies

(6/15/2014) Giants pitcher Juan Gutierrez was roughed up for the loss in relief on Sunday at home against the Rockies.

Gutierrez allowed a run-scoring triple to Drew Stubbs, a run-scoring infield single to Michael McKenry and a two-run double to Justin Morneau. He was charged with four runs on three hits and one walk over just two-thirds of an inning. He owns a 3.69 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP in 31 2/3 innings of relief.

J.C. Gutierrez makes Giants

(3/30/2014) Giants pitcher J.C. Gutierrez has made the opening day roster.

Gutierrez posted a 1.69 ERA in 10 2/3 spring innings, earning his spot. He was a non-roster spring invitee in January.


Giants hand out 26 non-roster spring invites

(1/13/2014) The Giants announced Monday they extended non-roster invitations to 26 players. They were 16 pitchers, four catchers, four infielders and two outfielders.

The pitchers included prospects Clayton Blackburn, Tyson Blach and Kyle Crick. The remaining non-roster pitchers include Jason Berken, Brett Bochy, Jose Casilla, Rafael Dolis, J.C. Gutierrez, Chris Heston, Derek Law, Mitch Lively, Kameron Loe, Adam Reifer, Sandy Rosario, Dan Runzler and Mason Tobin.

The position players included prospects Joe Panik and Mac Williamson. The other non-roster position players include Jeff Arnold, Guillermo Quiroz, Andrew Susac, Ben Turner, Chris Dominguez, Brandon Hicks, Mark Minicozzi and Javier Herrera.


Angels designate J.C. Gutierrez for assignment

(11/27/2013) The Angels designated pitcher J.C. Gutierrez for assignment Wednesday to clear a 40-man roster spot for free-agent signee Joe Smith.

Gutierrez went 1-4 with a 5.19 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 26 innings with the Angels last season as well as 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 29 1/3 innings with the Royals.

Gutierrez was designated on his 30th birthday. He was 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA over 29 1/3 innings and 25 appearances this season for Kansas City.

(3/28/2013) With Dan Wheeler's demotion to minor-league camp Thursday, J.C. Gutierrez has won the final spot in the Royals' bullpen, according to The Kansas City Star. Guiterrez, who is 5-10 with a 4.79 ERA and 24 saves in 150 career outings, has a 4.50 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 12 spring appearances.
