Mariners part ways with struggling vets in minors

(6/11/2014) The Mariners released a pair of veteran relievers from their Triple-A Tacoma roster Tuesday, as Mike MacDougal and Zach Miner were let down.

Both pitchers have struggled with Tacoma this season, posting ERA's above 8.00.

(6/9/2014) The Mariners have released pitcher Zach Miner on Monday, MiLB.com reports. The 32-year-old signed a minor-league deal before the start of the season, but posted an 8.60 ERA over 37 2/3 innings of work at Triple-A Tacoma.

(2/11/2014) The Mariners are considering signing pitcher Zach Miner to a minor-league deal, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

Miner tossed 28 2/3 innings with the Phillies last season. He posted a 4.40 ERA. Miner mainly pitched out of the bullpen, but did manage to make three starts.

(10/3/2013) The Phillies cleared four spots on the 40-man roster Thursday, outrighting infielders Michael Martinez and Pete Orr as well as pitchers Zach Miner and Mauricio Robles.

Martinez went 7 for 40 with the Phillies this season and has hit .187/.234/.261 with five home runs and 34 RBI in 364 at-bats over his three-year career. Orr went 4 for 20 this season, giving him a .247/.293/.306 line with no home runs, 11 RBI and six stolen bases in 170 at-bats over three seasons with the Phillies.

Miner made 16 relief appearances for the Phillies this season, posting a 4.40 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 20:17 K:BB ratio in 28 2/3 innings. Robles allowed one earned run in 4 2/3 innings over three appearances with the Phillies while posting a 1.97 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 63:44 K:BB ratio in 64 innings over two minor-league levels in 2013.

Miner had filled in for Kyle Kendrick over the second half of the season. Through 28 2/3 innings, Miner had a 4.40 ERA.

(9/29/2013) Phillies pitcher Zach Miner fell to 0-2 in Sunday's 12-5 loss to the Braves, giving up five earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out one in 2 1/3 innings as the Phillies ended the season with a 73-89 record.

The mediocre effort leaves Miner with a 4.40 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 20:17 K:BB ratio in 28 2/3 innings over 16 appearances (three starts).

(9/24/2013) Phillies pitcher Zach Miner was hit with a no-decision in his penultimate start of the year Tuesday against the Marlins in Miami. He surrendered one run on four hits and two walks while striking out three over four innings of a 2-1 victory.

Miner owns a 3.08 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP through 15 appearances (two starts). He'll make his final start of the season Sunday against the Braves at Turner Field. He has not allowed a run in 5 1/3 innings pitched against the Braves this season.

(9/18/2013) Phillies pitcher Zach Miner made his first start of the season Wednesday against the Marlins, his first major-league start since 2009. Miner pitched three scoreless innings in the game, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out two.

The Phillies went on to los, 4-3, in 10 innings, with Miner settling for a no-decision. Miner has a 3.22 ERA in 22 1/3 innings of work. It is not clear if Miner will make another start, or return to the bullpen.
