Masset's 40-man roster spot was required for the Reds to call up Corky Miller, the replacement for injured catcher Ryan Hanigan. Masset recently encountered a setback in his recovery from a shoulder injury that kept him out of the 2012 season and put him on the disabled list prior to the start of 2013. He isn't eligible to return until May 30.

In fact, he is long-tossing at distances of up to 130 feet between 80-100 times every other day and playing catch in between those days. "Pretty much, I'm trying to build up arm strength overall," Masset said. "I've been able to throw, for the most part, pain free. It's been really good and promising so far. It's exciting to have that feeling come back. It can be a little discouraging at times. The first month or two were a little shaky. I had my good days and bad days."
