Braves sign pitcher Nick Masset to contract

(5/19/2015) The Braves agreed to terms with pitcher Nick Masset on a major league contract for the 2015 season, the team announced.

Masset, 33, pitched in eight games for the Marlins this season and produced a 1.86 ERA over 9 2/3 innings.

Masset will be moved to make room for Henderson Alvarez, who is expected to start on Sunday for Miami once he's activated from the 15-day DL.

(4/21/2015) The Marlins have called up pitcher Nick Masset from Triple-A and optioned pitcher Jose Urena back to the minors, the team announced Tuesday.

Urena was called up last week when David Phelps was placed on paternity leave. He worked three innings in two appearances, allowing three runs on four hits. Masset threw 45 innings in 2014 for the Rockies, posting a 5.80 ERA in 51 appearances.

The team has also designated Matt Tracy for assignment. Tracy made one appearance, allowing three runs on two hits for the Marlins.

The 32-year-old Masset went 2-0 with a 5.80 ERA and 1.78 WHIP in 51 relief appearances for the Rockies in 2014. He had 36 strikeouts in 45 innings.

(9/7/2014) Rockies pitcher Nick Masset earned a win Saturday, pitching a scoreless 12th inning with one walk and one strikeout in his team's 7-6 win over the Padres.

Masset (2-0) gave up six earned runs in two-thirds of an inning on Aug. 9, but since then, he's allowed just two earned runs in 8 1/3 innings. He owns a 5.49 ERA and 32:22 K:BB ratio in 39 1/3 innings.

The team placed left-handed reliever Boone Logan on the 15-day disabled list -- retroactive to July 12 -- with a case of diverticulitis. He is also nursing a neck strain. Colorado also activated reliever Nick Masset from the disabled list to take Logan's roster spot.

The Rockies have sent Masset out for an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. The right-hander allowed four runs on three hits and one walk without recording an out on Saturday. His status remains uncertain moving forward.

Masset had the operation Friday and returned to camp Monday. He hopes to pitch in games soon with the hopes of opening the season in the major-league bullpen.

(2/4/2014) The Rockies announced Tuesday 24 players received non-roster invites to spring training. The roster breakdown is 12 pitchers, four infielders, two outfielders and six catchers.

The pitchers are Christian Bergman, Brooks Brown, Greg Burke, Eddie Butler, Manny Corpas, Yohan Flande, Jonathan Gray, Pedro Hernandez, Chris Martin, Nick Masset, Scott Oberg and Josh Sullivan.

The four infielders are Paul Janish, Angelys Nina, Ben Paulsen and Rafael Ynoa. The two outfielders are Jason Pridie and Tim Wheeler.

The six catchers are Ryan Casteel, Dustin Garneau, Matt McBride, Michael McKenry, Tom Murphy and Jackson Williams.

Gray, Butler and Murphy are among the team's top prospects.

(8/9/2013) Reds reliever Nick Masset will have surgery at some point next week to repair thoracic outlet syndrome, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Masset started the season on the disabled list and has not pitched since the 2011 regular season because of recurring issues. The right-hander is expected to miss the remainder of the season and is expected to become a free agent in 2014.

(6/22/2013) Reds reliever Nick Masset had a setback in his recovery from shoulder surgery, but he was able to throw a bullpen session Saturday. According to MLB.com, Masset's recovery has been fitful, but he still expects to return to the majors this season. 

“Right now I’m cutting it loose pretty good. I’m fairly close to where I’m probably 100 percent full speed," he said. "But it goes from feeling completely feeling completely normal to being my old self to what’s going on here and why all of a sudden is it acting up?”

Masset has not pitched since the 2011 regular season because of recurring issues.
