(5/19/2014) The Blue Jays acquired pitcher Raul Valdes from the Astros Monday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Valdes was designated for assignment by the Astros two weeks ago and sent to Triple-A Oklahoma City after clearing waivers. He gave up five earned runs on five hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings over eight appearances with the Astros.

The Astros began the inning up four runs, and Valdes was called upon to shut the door after a three-run home run cut the lead to one. He struck out both batters he faced to record his first save of the season. Valdes owns a 9.00 ERA and 4:3 K:BB ratio in three innings of action.

Valdes will replace Kevin Chapman on the roster. He was sent down following Wednesday's game. Valdes has a 4.94 career ERA in 136 2/3 innings in the majors.

(7/27/2013) With scheduled Phillies starter Cliff Lee unable to pitch, the Tigers took Phillies pitcher Raul Valdes to town in Saturday's 10-0 win, with Valdes surrendering nine earned runs on 12 hits in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out three, walked none and gave up two home runs in the spot start.

Valdes fell to 1-1 with the loss, and he owns a 9.72 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 26:7 K:BB ratio in 25 innings over 11 relief appearances and one start. If Lee cannot make his next scheduled start, the team would likely go with a better option than Valdes.

(7/26/2013) Phillies pitcher Raul Valdes will make his first start of the season Saturday against the Tigers, as he will take the mound in Cliff Lee's place. Lee was scratched from the start Friday due to a stiff neck.

Valdes made his last start in the majors June 27 against the Pirates, when he allowed three runs in two innings of work. Valdes has a 7.59 ERA on the season, and last pitched Tuesday, throwing 19 pitches in 1 1/3 innings against the Cardinals.
