Pirates get closer to finalizing opening day roster

(3/25/2014) The Pirates made several roster moves Tuesday, including optioning Jaff Decker and Jared Hughes to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The Pirates also reassigned Robert Andino, Chris Dickerson, Jay Jackson, Michael MartinezOmir Santos, Daniel Schlereth, Zack Thornton and Adam Wilk to minor-league camp.

(2/7/2014) Catcher Omir Santos has signed a minor league deal with the Pirates that includes a spring training invite.

Santos was waived by Cleveland last July and hasn't received considerable major league playing time since hitting .260 in 281 at-bats with the Mets in 2009.

(7/14/2013) The Cleveland Indians outrighted catcher Omir Santos to Triple-A Columbus Sunday to clear room on the 40-man roster, MLB.com reports. 

Santos played in one game for Cleveland this season back on April 9. He went 0 for 1. Santos is batting .276 for Columbus this season over 163 at-bats.

(4/9/2013) The Indians purchased the contract of catcher Omir Santos from Triple-A Columbus Tuesday. Santos will serve as Yan Gomes' backup Tuesday after Lou Marson (neck) was placed on the disabled list and Carlos Santana being day-to-day with a thumb injury.
