(8/21/2015) Pirates just-activated infielder Josh Harrison will return as a starter at second base Friday night against San Francisco lefty stud Madison Bumgarner. Neil Walker is out of the lineup.

Harrison is batting .322 (19-for-59) against left-handers this season.

(8/13/2015) Pirates second baseman Neil Walker had a nice night at the plate on Thursday. The Pittsburgh-native fell a home run shy of the cycle, going 3 for 5 with two RBI and a run scored in the 10-5 win over the Cardinals.

Walker came to bat twice in the first inning, as he hit a one-out triple and scored before he ripped an RBI single later in the frame. He chipped in an RBI double in the ninth inning.

Walker is now batting .306 (11 for 36) with two triples and two home runs so far in the month of August.


Pirates 2B Neil Walker socks go-ahead home run on Friday

(7/24/2015) Pirates second baseman Neil Walker went yard for his eight home run of the season in Friday's 7-5 win over the Nationals. Walker's solo shot came in the fifth inning of Max Scherzer, and it put the Pirates ahead 5-4 at the time. 

Walker, who went 2 for 4 in the game, has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games. Though he is batting just .274 with 17 strikeouts--and one walk--over that stretch.


Red-hot Neil Walker slugs two-run home run for Pirates on Friday

(7/10/2015) Pirates second baseman Neil Walker had a big game against the Cardinals on Friday. Walker went 3 for 4, including a key two-run home run in the fourth inning of the 5-2 victory.

Walker's seventh home run of the season gave the Pirates their fourth and fifth runs. He is on an absolute tear at the plate right now, batting .405 with three home runs and 10 RBI in his 10 games this month.

Walker scored and drove in his 32nd run of the season. His single extended his hitting streak to nine consecutive games. 

Walker is hitting .459 over the streak.

In 10 games since returning from a stomach illness, Walker is hitting .444 with two home runs and seven RBI.

Walker went 4 for 6 with two home runs and three RBI in a 9-3 win. 

Walker is hitting an eye-popping .500 with nine hits, two home runs and four RBI over his last four games.

(7/1/2015) Pirates second baseman Neil Walker hit a game-winning double in the 14th inning of Tuesday's win over Detroit.

Walker went 2 for 6 and hit in his fourth straight game. He got his first RBI since June 5, ending a 15-game, 49 at-bat drought. 

Walker has 19 doubles and 24 RBI.

To replace Walker, the Pirates will shift Josh Harrison to second from third base. Harrison has previously started at second 11 times this year. 

Replacing Josh Harrison at third is Jung Ho Kang, who gets his 27th start at the hot corner.

Walker had been for a week with a stomach issue, though he did get one at-bat Sunday.

The next step for Walker is to break from a slump at the plate. He has just three hits in his last 23 at-bats.

Walker, who has not played since Tuesday, will be available off the bench, per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, which is claiming he wouldn't have started against lefty Gio Gonzalez anyway. Walker has had two hits since June 8.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Walker will be out of the lineup because he is dealing with a stomach ailment.

Walker is hitting .208 with 10 hits and six RBI over his last 12 games.

After starting 17 of the last 18 games, Walker is not in the lineup. He's replaced by Josh Harrison, who moves over from third base to get his fifth start of the year at the keystone spot. 

Replacing Harrison at third is Jung Ho Kang, who gets his 18th start there. Kang is also batting cleanup for the first time in his MLB career.

(6/6/2015) Pirates second baseman Neil Walker had one hit in Friday's win over the Braves, but it was a big one. Walker launched a three-run home run in the fifth inning to temporarily give the Pirates a 4-3 lead. They would go on to win 10-8. 

The home run was Walker's fourth of the season, and it extends his current hitting streak to 11 games. During the streak, Walker is batting .304 with two home runs and nine RBI.

This was Walker's 15th double of the season. 

Walker has recorded a hit in five consecutive games and has had three total RBI in his past three games. He finished the game 1 for 4 with two strikeouts. He's now slashing .263/.324/.392.

Walker finished the game 1 of 4, with the home run being his third of the season. After going hitless in three games, Walker has now recorded hits in three of his past eight at-bats. Walker has 16 RBI this season. 

Following the game, Walker now holds a slash line of .259/.320/.395.

(5/13/2015) With a left-hander on the mound Wednesday, Pirates manager Clint Hurdle has juggled his lineup for the matchup against the Phillies.

Left-handed batters Gregory Polanco and Pedro Alvarez are out of the lineup, while Corey Hart covers right field and Sean Rodriguez handles first base. Josh Harrison will move up to the leadoff spot in the order.

Second baseman Neil Walker is sliding down to the seventh spot in the lineup. This is the first time all season he has hit lower than sixth in the order.

(5/10/2015) The Pirates are using Sunday to give several players a break from starting, as right fielder Gregory Polanco, second baseman Neil Walker and first baseman Pedro Alvarez are not in the lineup against the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are sending a lefty to the mound, making it the first time in 10 games that the Pirates have faced a lefty starter. Polanco and Alvarez have been in the lineup for that entire stretch but also sat in the team's last game against a southpaw. The switch-hitting Walker also received last Sunday off from starting.

With the shakeup to the lineup, Josh Harrison will man second and return to the leadoff spot, while Jung Ho Kang will bat second and play third base.

The Pirates are favorites (-115) at home Sunday.

(5/9/2015) Pirates second baseman Neil Walker hasn't exploded for any huge games this season. He just continues to hit consistently.

Walker has hit safely in 23 of 30 games, courtesy of a solo home run in the fifth inning Saturday against St. Louis that launched a comeback resulting in victory. He has a five-game hitting streak with four runs scored in the last three.

His slash line stands at a quite respectable .287/.350/.417.
