(4/12/2015) Pirates second baseman Neil Walker went 1 for 5 at the plate Sunday with a home run in Pittsburgh's 10-2 win over the Brewers.

Walker was 0 for 4 to start the game, but came to the plate with two men on in the ninth when he ripped an 0-2 pitch from Neal Cotts to right field for a three-run shot, driving in Jordy Mercer and Andrew McCutchen. He is now hitting .250 with four RBI in 24 at-bats this season.

(2/7/2015) Pirates second baseman Neil Walker lost his arbitration case to the Pirates and will make $8 million in 2015, CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman confirmed Saturday.

Walked filed for $9 million in arbitration, but was awarded the $8 million the Pirates offered. In 512 at-bats in 2014, Walker hit .271 with 23 home runs and 76 RBI.

Nine Pirates were able to avoid arbitration, but the team has yet to settle on deals with Walker, Alvarez and Vance Worley. Walker was offered $8 million, while Alvarez was offered $5.25 million.

(12/11/2014) The Pirates are discussing a possible contract extension with second baseman Neil Walker, according to MLB.com.

Walker is under contract through 2016, but the team would like to make sure the Pittsburgh native is a Pirate for life. "We would like nothing more than to have Neil Walker end his career as a Pirate, there's no question about that," general manager Neal Huntington said. The club attempted to extend Walker back in 2011, but talks broke off quickly. 

Walker, 29, hit .271/.342/.467 over 512 at-bats last year.

(8/11/2014) Pirates second baseman Neil Walker believes he can avoid a trip to the disabled list despite having missed five of his last six games with back spasms and being scratched from the Sunday lineup after he was penciled in.

"Whether it's my lower back or mid-back or hamstring or whatever it may be, it's just tightening up on me," he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I've had the hardest time getting it back to square one. ... I"m just taking it day by day. [Sunday] wasn't a great day for me, but I've seen a back specialist. Nothing is alarming to him, nothing is alarming to me."

Walker is hitless in his last nine at-bats since July 31.

(8/10/2014) Pirates second baseman Neil Walker was removed from Sunday's lineup after he reported continuing tightness in his lower back, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It's becoming increasingly likely that he'll go on the DL, the paper said.

Walker pinch-hit Saturday, his first appearance since last Tuesday.

"I think we're coming to a crossroads here," manager Clint Hurdle said. "I don't think he felt as good as he was hoping to today, this morning when he came in."

Walker is hitting .277 with 16 homers and 50 RBI in 364 at-bats.
