Kevin Frandsen draws start, hits first homer

(5/8/2013) Phillies infielder Kevin Frandsen drew the start at first base Wednesday and batted second, contributing his first home run of the season in his team's extra-innings loss against the Giants. It was just the fourth start of the season for Frandsen, who is hitting .259 on the year.

(4/19/2013) Phillies reserve infielder Kevin Frandsen earned his first start of the season Friday against the Cardinals with Ryan Howard dealing with a sore groin.

Frandsen went 0 for 2 but reached base twice on an error and a walk. He scored both times in an 8-2 win.

Frandsen is 2 for 10 in eight games, with three RBI, a walk and two strikeouts.

(4/6/2013) Kevin Frandsen played hero for the Phillies on Saturday night against the Royals. He pinch-hit in the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded and his team trailing by two and two outs.

The 30-year-old hit the first pitch he saw from closer Greg Holland and cleared the bases with a walk-off double, giving Philadelphia the 4-3 win.

Frandsen is 2 for 2 this season.

(3/27/2013) Phillies infielder Kevin Frandsen was removed from Wednesday's spring game against the Tigers after getting hit by Justin Verlander's pitch on the left wrist. Frandsen has a large welt on his wrist, but he said he is OK and just a little sore, according to CSN Philadelphia. Frandsen was 0-for-1 before leaving the game. He's batting .279 (17-for-61) with two homers and 10 RBI in 24 spring games.

(11/14/2012) The Phillies announced on Tuesday that Kevin Frandsen, who hit .338 with 10 doubles over 195 at-bats -- mostly later in the season when filling in for (and eventually winning the job from) Placido Polanco at third base -- has agreed to a one-year contract with the team.
