Rays make round of cuts


(3/11/2011) The Rays announced their first cuts of the spring, re-assigning RP Jonah Bayliss, RP Brian Baker, RP Matt Bush, RP Dane De La Rosa, RP Rickey Orta, SP Albert Suarez, RP Alex Torres and OF Brandon Guyer to Minor League camp.

(12/15/2010) The Rays signed RP Jonah Bayliss to a minor league contract on Wednesday, according to Baseball America. He pitched in the Astros organization in 2010, going 1-4 with a 3.58 ERA in 43 appearances at Triple-A Round Rock. He last pitched in the majors for the Pirates in 2007.

(6/25/2007) Pirates right-hander John Wasdin came off the DL on Monday after recovering from a sprained thumb. Wasdin, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 2, will be in the bullpen Tuesday against the Marlins. Wasdin made five rehab starts for Triple-A Indianapolis, where he was 1-1 with a 5.97 ERA. Jonah Bayliss was sent back down to the minors to make room.

(3/30/2007) The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Pirates have told RP Dan Kolb that he will not make the team, giving him the right to become a free agent. The move opens the door for Jonah Bayliss and John Wasdin to take the last two spots in the Bucs' bullpen.

Bayliss throws in intrasquad game


(3/17/2007) Pirates RHP Jonah Bayliss threw 20 pitches in an intrasquad game after missing the first two weeks of the exhibition season because of a strained left quadriceps. As a short reliever who rarely pitches more than two innings, Bayliss has no doubt he will be ready by the April 2 opener at Houston. However, missing so much time in the exhibition season puts him behind in the chance to win a spot on the opening day roster and makes him likely to begin the season at Triple-A Indianapolis, where he had 23 saves last season.
