Rangers sign Taubenheim to minor deal


(1/29/2011) The Rangers signed SP Ty Taubenheim to a minor-league contract on Saturday. Taubenheim, who spent last season in Philadelphia's organization, is 1-5 with a 5.09 ERA in 14 major league games for Toronto (2006-07) and Pittsburgh (2008).

(9/2/2008) The Pirates recalled right-handers T.J. Beam, Craig Hansen, Marino Salas and Romulo Sanchez on Tuesday. Pittsburgh also recalled infielder Brian Bixler, catchers Ronny Paulino and Robinzon Diaz and outfielder Steve Pearce. The Pirates also purchased the contract of infielder Luis Cruz from Indianapolis. To make room on the 40-man roster for Cruz, Pittsburgh released right-hander Ty Taubenheim.

(6/29/2008) Emergency starter Ty Taubenheim pitched six effective innings for Pittsburgh on Saturday against the Rays. He allowed two runs and seven hits, struck out four batters and walked three in a no-decision. He was optioned back to Triple-A after the game.

(6/28/2008) The Pirates called up SP Ty Taubenheim from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday to start Saturday night against the Rays. He pitched in 13 games for Toronto in 2006-07. He has a 4-9 record and 4.60 ERA in the minors.

(3/17/2008) The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Pirates sent down Neil Walker to Triple-A Indianapolis Monday, along with pitchers Bryan Bullington, Ty Taubenheim, T.J. Beam, Brian Rogers and Marino Salas, infielders Brian Bixler and Luis Cruz, and outfielders Steve Pearce and Andrew McCutchen.

Pirates claim Taubenheim from Jays


(12/3/2007) The Pirates claimed infielder Josh Wilson from Tampa Bay and pitcher Ty Taubenheim from Toronto on Monday, adding both to their 40-man roster. To make room for the two, the Pirates designated 1B Brad Eldred and right-hander Brian Rogers for assignment. Both must pass through waivers before they can be reassigned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

(6/23/2007) Making his season debut in place of the injured A.J. Burnett (sore shoulder), Blue Jays SP Ty Taubenheim allowed five runs and five hits over five-plus innings during Saturday's no-decision against the Rockies. He walked four and struck out four.

(6/19/2007) The Blue Jays called up RP Ty Taubenheim from the minor leagues to take the place of starter A.J. Burnett (right shoulder), who went on the 15-day DL. GM J.P. Ricciardi said Burnett could have made his scheduled start against Colorado on Saturday, but the team decided to "err on the said of caution." Instead, Saturday's starter will be the 24-year-old Taubenheim, 3-5 with a 5.63 ERA in 11 starts at Syracuse. "He's the hot hand right now," Ricciardi said. "We're just going to go with the guy who's pitching the best." Taubenheim made seven starts for Toronto last year, going 1-5 with a 4.89 ERA. "He pitched OK," manager John Gibbons said. We liked everything about him out there. We figured it was a matter of time this year before he came up and helped us out."

(3/17/2007) Toronto optioned RHP Ty Taubenheim, INFs John Hattig and Russ Adams and OF Adam Lind to Triple-A Syracuse. Toronto also returned INF Rob Cosby to its minor league camp.

(8/19/2006) Manager John Gibbons said INF Russ Adams, RHP Josh Towers, RHP Ty Taubenheim and RHP Casey Janssen were candidates to be summoned from the minor leagues when rosters expand Sept. 1. All have spent time with the Blue Jays this season.

(7/27/2006) LHP Gustavo Chacin will make a rehab start on Sunday at Triple-A Syracuse. Chacin has been out since June 10 because of a sore left elbow. Chacin is 6-2 in 10 starts this season. RHP Ty Taubenheim is also headed for a rehab assignment in Syracuse. Taubenheim was placed on the DL on July 15 with an infection in his left foot.

(7/22/2006) Ty Taubenheim, the second Blue Jay to be placed on the disabled list because of a staph infection, was back in the clubhouse Friday night. "They caught it early," Taubenheim said, but the right-hander still had to be hospitalized for five days. "Now I've just got to get back in shape; I haven't thrown since before the break," he said.

(7/15/2006) The Toronto Blue Jays disinfected their clubhouse after being forced to place right-hander Ty Taubenheim on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with an infection in his left foot, the second Toronto player to be placed on the DL because of a staph infection.

(7/9/2006) Rookie RHP Shaun Marcum, who has an 8.22 ERA in five relief appearances, will be moving into the rotation after the All-Star break, replacing RHP Ty Taubenheim, who is 0-5 with a 4.99 ERA in seven starts. Marcum was 4-0 with a 3.42 ERA in 18 games, including four starts, with Triple-A Syracuse before his July 2 promotion.
