Barthmaier not terrible on Saturday

(9/28/2008) Pirates SP Jimmy Barthmaier, who compiled a 15.19 ERA in his first two starts, looked significantly better in his third and final start Saturday at San Diego. He still allowed three runs on four hits and four walks in five innings, taking the loss. He recorded two strikeouts.

(9/20/2008) Pirates SP Jimmy Barthmaier, who gave up seven runs in 2 1/3 innings in his only previous start, June 27 against Tampa Bay, didn't fare much better in a second look Saturday against the AStros. Barthmaier will start Saturday

(9/15/2008) According to The Sports Xchange notes: RHP Jimmy Barthmaier will take the rotation spot of LHP Tom Gorzelanny, who will miss the rest of the season because of a sprained ligament in the tip of his left middle finger. Barthmaier has pitched in one major league game, losing to Tampa Bay on June 27, when he gave up seven runs in 2 1/3 innings. RHP Jason Davis made a spot start as RHP Jeff Karstens was unable to pitch because of an abscessed tooth. Davis started three games in August but had made his last five appearances in relief.
