(8/29/2010) The Blue Jays signed reliever Jamie Vermilyea to a minor-league contract Saturday and assigned him to the Triple-A Las Vegas 51s.

Vermilyea recalled from minors


(5/10/2007) The Toronto Blue Jays put right-hander Victor Zambrano (strained forearm) on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday and recalled Jamie Vermilyea from Triple-A Syracuse. Right-hander Shaun Marcum will move out of the bullpen and into Zambrano's spot in the rotation. He will make his first start of the season Sunday against Tampa Bay. "I was a little surprised," Marcum said. "I'm going to do whatever I can to help this team win."

Jays send Vermilyea to minors


(4/22/2007) The Blue Jays optioned rookie right-hander Jamie Vermilyea to Triple-A Syracuse and recalled left-hander Brian Tallet after Sunday's 7-3 loss at Baltimore. Vemilyea made his major league debut Sunday, coming out of the bullpen to throw three shutout innings. He struck out one, walked none and allowed three hits. Vermilyea was recalled on April 15 when closer B.J. Ryan (elbow) was placed on the 15-day DL. Through Saturday, Tallet had a 1.35 ERA in seven relief appearances spanning 6 2/3 innings for the Chiefs. Tallet, who was 3-0 in 44 appearances for the Blue Jays in 2006, was sent outright to Syracuse on March 29.

(4/21/2007) Entering Saturday's game, rookie RP Jamie Vermilyea had not made an appearance since having his contract selected April 15 from Syracuse.

Vermilyea to work as long reliever


(4/16/2007) RHP Jamie Vermilyea was called up from Triple-A Syracuse to replace B.J. Ryan on the 25-man roster. Vermilyea, 23, did not allow a run in three relief appearances with Syracuse this season. In 5 2/3 innings, he struck out six and didn't issue a walk.

Ryan on DL, visiting Andrews


(4/15/2007) The Blue Jays placed closer B.J. Ryan on the 15-day DL on Sunday with an elbow injury, a day after he blew his second save in his past four chances. Ryan, whose latest blown save came in Saturday's 10-7 loss to Detroit, is to be examined by Dr. James Andrews in Alabama on Monday. The left-hander has two blown saves in five chances this year, after he blew only four saves in 42 opportunities last season. Setup man Jason Frasor will take over in the closer's role. The Blue Jays called up right-hander Jamie Vermilyea from Triple-A Syracuse.

(3/7/2006) MLB.com reports Jamie Vermilyea, Boston's Rule 5 Draft pick from December, will struggle to make the team. The Red Sox are stacked in the pitching department, which will make it difficult to carry Vermilyea on the roster for the entire season because of his Rule 5 status.
