Diamondbacks could use another left-handed reliever

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/29/2013) Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said following Sunday's 1-0 loss to the Padres he will listen to offers as the July 31 trade deadline nears, but he's mostly happy with his team's roster, according to The Arizona Republic.

"Makeup-wise, chemistry-wise, I feel very strongly about the guys we’ve got in our clubhouse," Towers said. "Probably this year more so than some of my prior years, I don’t know how much I really want to mess with that. I think over the long run these guys will persevere and end up hopefully on top of this division."

One area Towers said was a position of need was in the bullpen, where the team could use another left-handed arm to pair with Tony Sipp, who surprisingly has been better against right-handed hitters (.203 batting average against) than lefties (.263).

"Other than being kind of very righthanded in the bullpen, I think we’ve got some youth, we’ve got some veterans," Towers said. "We’ve got some guys that have been there before. I still haven’t given up on the 25 guys we’ve got right here. It’s a good group."

"Over the course of the year, maybe Reynolds would throw more extended periods," Gibson said. "He’d be a guy we’d not hesitate to stretch out to two innings. Sipp maybe not as much. That’s the way I see it now. It could change."
