Chris Robinson retires from baseball

(2/14/2014) Catcher Chris Robinson has retired from baseball, MLBDailyDish.com reports. He made his MLB debut in 2013 and played eight games with the Padres, going 2 for 12 with one home run and three RBI.

Robinson played nine seasons in the minors, hitting .276/.320/.355 with 12 home runs, 267 RBI and 23 stolen bases in 2,159 at-bats.


Chris Robinson sent to Triple-A

(10/5/2013) The Padres sent catcher Chris Robinson outright to Triple-A Tucson Saturday. The 29-year-old was designated for assignment recently. He went unclaimed on waivers.

Robinson is organizational depth for the Padres. In 68 games at Triple-A, Robinson hit .282 with no home runs and 22 RBI.

The move was made to create a spot on the 40-man roster for shorstop Everth Cabrera, who was activated from the restricted list.

(9/26/2013) The Padres received an unlikely source of power Wednesday, in the form of recent callup Chris Robinson. Robinson, a catcher, slugged his first major-league hit and home run in a pinch-hitting appearance in a 12-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Robinson has appeared in six games, going 1 for 6 as a pinch-hitter.

Robinson made just 12 plate appearances for the Orioles this spring, recording four singles and a walk while scoring one run. He has spent the last four seasons exclusively at the Triple-A level.
