Rob Johnson signs on as pitcher with Padres

(2/14/2014) Catcher Rob Johnson, who was waived by St. Louis last November, has signed a minor league deal with the Padres. The twist is that he is now trying to make it as a pitcher, according to Baseball America.

Johnson pitched one game for the Mets in 2012 and another for the Cardinals last season. He retired all four batters he faced.

The team now has three open spots to add players to the roster. All three players saw minimal time with the big league club in 2013.
