Blanco broke a scoreless game with a grand slam in the sixth inning off starter A.J. Griffin. He finished 1 for 4 with a run scored and four RBI in a 4-0 win. The 41-year-old veteran is hitting .190 with a home run in 42 at-bats in the majors.

(6/14/2013) The Mariners have signed catcher Henry Blanco.

Blanco recently was released by the Blue Jays, but he didn't stay unemployed for long. The Mariners designated Kelly Shoppach for assignment to make room for Blanco. Blanco will likely back up rookie Mike Zunino.

Blanco hit .184/.262/.263 in 38 at-bats this season.

(6/7/2013) The Blue Jays have designated Henry Blanco for assignment.

Blanco has never been an offensive threat, and was hitting just .184/.262/.263 in 38 at-bats this year. While he's regarded as a strong defensive catcher, the team is promoting Josh Thole, who has experience catching knuckle-baller R.A. Dickey.

Henry Blanco paired with struggling Mark Buehrle

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(5/6/2013) Blue Jays manager John Gibbons gave a rare start to veteran Henry Blanco behind the plate over J.P. Arencibia Monday with Mark Buehrle starting in Tampa Bay, MLB.com reports.

Gibbons would like to give Blanco a shot to help reverse Buehrle's struggles. Monday was the first time that Blanco caught anyone but R.A. Dickey this season.

"I just wanted to run one game like that and see," Gibbons said. "Mark, it has been a tough go for him, and we'll change up the catchers to see if that does anything. [J.P.'s] not happy, I didn't expect him to be. But it's just something I want to look at tonight."

Henry Blanco auditioning for role of full-time knuckleball catcher

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/6/2013) Blue Jays catcher Henry Blanco is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Red Sox with R.A. Dickey on the mound, and if he proves capable of handling Dickey's knuckleball, he could become Dickey's full-time catcher.

"We'll see how that goes," manager John Gibbons told MLB.com. "That won't be the only factor, but if everything is real smooth and everything goes well, I'd be crazy not to."

Blanco has yet to play in a regular-season game in 2013 after hitting .286/.333/.400 in 39 plate appearances during spring training.

Henry Blanco to catch R.A. Dickey next time

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(4/3/2013) The Blue Jays have decided to go with Henry Blanco behind the plate the next time R.A. Dickey takes the mound Monday against Boston, reports the National Post

J.P. Arencibia was originally expected to get another crack at catching the knuckleballer but manager John Gibbons has decided to go with Blanco, who was brought in for the very purpose of handling the tough-to-catch 2012 National League Cy Young award winner.
