Week 10 Hitting Planner

The Fantasy Baseball Hitting Planner is the essential guide to setting your lineup for the upcoming week. Every Saturday, we provide you with favorable and unfavorable matchups, along with news and notes on lineups. The Pitching Planner, complete with upcoming two-start pitchers, will be posted on Sunday.

Don't forget to check out our Weekly Planner page, under the stats tab on your league pages. It has the weekly matchups for each team broken down by day, the number of games ahead for each team and finally, the hitting and pitching stats for each team (broken down by home and away).

Weather planner: Taking into account all games with at least a 50 percent chance of precipitation according to Weather.com, the following games are in danger of being rained out: Houston at Pittsburgh (50 percent chance) on Monday; Cincinnati at Philadelphia (50), Houston at Pittsburgh (50), Tampa Bay at Boston (50), Toronto at N.Y. Yankees (50) and St. Louis at Washington (50) on Wednesday.

This week's news and notes for each team:

Arizona Diamondbacks: Orlando Hudson is coming off a nice week, hitting safely in his past six contests, with a couple homers, four RBI and five runs scored ... Since Eric Byrnes (hamstrings) is sidelined on the 15-day disabled list for a few weeks, the D-Backs might end up using Chad Tracy in left, along with Jeff Salazar. Tracy said his surgically repaired right knee shouldn't be an issue if he runs in the outfield. He played 52 games in the outfield in his career, although he played first and third base Friday.

Atlanta Braves: Mark Kotsay's trip to the DL (with back issues again) means Gregor Blanco and Josh Anderson could share time in center field, with Greg Norton continuing to play in left. All three are better left for NL-only play and Kotsay's owners should be happy they got the at-bats that they did from the former Athletic ... After losing some time to Omar Infante earlier in the month, 2B Kelly Johnson is batting over .350 with nine RBI in the past two weeks.

Baltimore Orioles: OF Luke Scott is battling an Achilles' problem that has affected his knee and hamstring on his other leg. And the other former-Astro-turned-Oriole, Aubrey Huff, is batting just over .200 in the past couple weeks, but he does have three homers in that span ... The Orioles are on the road for six games this week.

Boston Red Sox: Jacoby Ellsbury snagged three bases against the Orioles Friday. C Ramon Hernandez is a base-stealer's dream this year. The rookie center fielder is just one stolen base behind major league leaders Michael Bourn and Ichiro Suzuki, who have 24 each. And Ellsbury has a higher OBP and slugging percentage than both of them ... J.D. Drew experienced vertigo and he was unable to play Friday, which allowed both Ellsbury and Coco Crisp to play at the same time.

Chicago Cubs: Mark DeRosa's fifth homer of the season capped a big comeback against the Rockies on Friday. He's only starting in 63 percent of leagues, which is surprising because he has position flexibility in the outfield, second and third base. He's fifth on the team in home runs (five), fifth in RBI (29), fifth in runs scored (33) and fifth in hits. Going out on a limb here -- he's the fifth-best hitter on the Cubs' offensive powerhouse, behind Alfonso Soriano, Geovany Soto, Aramis Ramirez and Aramis Ramirez. Get him active somewhere.

Chicago White Sox: Juan Uribe (strained right hamstring) is expected to reinstated from the 15-day disabled list and play at Tampa Bay Saturday, which means Alexei Ramirez, who homered Friday, will return to the bench.

Cincinnati Reds: Jay Bruce. Heard of him? Kinda good. In four games, he already has eight hits in just 14 at-bats, with two stolen bases and five runs scored. If you own him, you love to say, "BRUUUUUCE!" And if you don't, stick with "BOOOOO!" He even hit third in the Reds' order on the day Ken Griffey Jr. rested.

Cleveland Indians: Grady Sizemore had his third career two-homer game -- and his second this season -- Friday against the Royals. Sizemore's average has dropped from .282 to .260 in the past three weeks, but he's now on pace for a career-high 31 homers ... The Indians are on the road for seven games this week, but four of them are at homer-happy Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. And the other three are at Detroit, where the Tigers have a majors-worst 5.03 ERA at home ... The Tribe had to place Travis Hafner on the DL Friday because of a sore right shoulder. A cortisone shot on Tuesday didn't improve his pain enough. The team is rotating several players into the DH spot in their order, allowing them a day of rest in the field. Michael Aubrey and Andy Marte are getting extra at-bats lately too.

Colorado Rockies: Fantasy owners are ready for Ian Stewart to start regularly at second base because of his offensive potential. But he's still trying to learn the position defensively, so Jon Herrera has been getting starts there sometimes too. Stewart is still worth owning in NL-only play and keeper leagues at least. He had 12 homers and 43 RBI in 46 games at Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Detroit Tigers: Miguel Cabrera dropped down to sixth in the lineup Friday for the first time this year. He came through with three hits though, and an RBI single ... The Tigers hitters are in for a rough week, starting with three games at Oakland, where the A's rank second in home ERA (2.96). And Cleveland ranks fifth in the majors with a 3.75 ERA on the road, and they come into town for three games ... Carlos Guillen's hemorrhoids issue should be ... behind him now. He was able to play Friday.

Florida Marlins: Jacque Jones' arrival in South Florida has not instantly meant he was the starting center fielder. Alfredo Amezaga (better speed) and David Ross (better power) are still seeing starts too. Jones (better defender) has just two hits in his past 16 Marlins at-bats.

Houston Astros: The Astros are scoring 5.25 RPG at home this season, but they're still scoring above-average on the road, with 4.34 RPG.

  1. Michael Bourn, CF -- The second-year CF is tied for the league-lead in steals, but his average is just above the Mendoza line.
  2. Kazuo Matsui, 2B -- After hitting safely in 15 of 18 games in May, Matsui has gone 0-fer in five of his past eight, batting .143 since May 22.
  3. Miguel Tejada, SS -- His 13-game hitting streak ended on Friday. While his power has dipped this season -- he is on pace for just 17 homers this season -- his 107-RBI pace would end up as his highest total since the 150 RBI he posted in 2004. His status as a top-five Fantasy shortstop remains.
  4. Lance Berkman, 1B -- Not only is he playing as well as he did in April -- he has actually improved his play in May. In 27 games in each month, he has one more homer, three fewer RBI, two more steals, five more runs scored in May, and his batting average (.473) is 172 points higher than in April (.305).
  5. Carlos Lee, LF -- While his batting average is below his norm, Lee's run production is on a career-high pace of 133 RBI. He should buy something pretty for Tejada and Berkman.
  6. Hunter Pence, RF -- After struggling out of the gate, Pence is showing some punch again, with a .356 batting average, six homers, 21 RBI, 17 runs scored and four steals.
  7. Ty Wigginton, 3B -- His Fantasy status has officially dropped to NL-only play at this point. He's on pace for 23 RBI.
  8. J.R. Towles, C -- The rookie backstop is in a 5-for-53 (.094) slump right now with no signs of pulling out of it.

Kansas City Royals: Seeing most of the starts in KC, Miguel Olivo is becoming a nice No. 2 catcher in mixed Fantasy leagues. His 12 RBI in May put him behind just five other catchers (Brian McCann, Geovany Soto, Joe Mauer, Bengie Molina and Russell Martin), but he has done it in about 20 fewer at-bats ... Mark Grudzielanek is dealing with a sore back and he has missed four games in a row through Friday.

L.A. Angels: The Angels chose to officially place Chone Figgins on the DL with a strained right hamstring. He's eligible to return around June 6, but the Halos might decide to take their time with him and err on the side of caution ... But the Angels were able to get Howie Kendrick back Friday after he missed 42 games with a bad left hamstring. Have you already forgotten all about him? He is batting .462 in 39 at-bats, which tells you a little about his potential as a hitter. He is available in 41 percent of CBSSports.com leagues.

L.A. Dodgers: Their star shortstop, Rafael Furcal (sore back), suffered a setback last week and after getting checked out by a specialist, they have determined that he's not close to returning yet. Hopefully you didn't make a trade for him while he was hot -- just before the injury.

Milwaukee Brewers: Since returning from his suspension, Mike Cameron has become one of the Brewers' top RBI men. His 19 RBI since April 28 also places him among the top 25 at his position, but his average will hurt you.

Minnesota Twins: Delmon Young is certainly having a quiet season at the plate, but the former five-tool prospect is really struggling in left field for the Twins. After diving -- and missing -- on a liner from Mark Teahen, allowing an inside-the-park homer Tuesday, Young misplayed a catch over his shoulder on Wednesday. Then he took bad paths to hits against the Yankees Friday and he missed two cutoff men on a wild throw. The Twins rested him Thursday and it didn't help -- and his streak of 217 games played in a row ended ... Justin Morneau has hit safely in 16 of 19 games and he's starting to show flashes of his 2006 AL MVP magic.

N.Y. Yankees: Derek Jeter has struggled since he was hit by a pitch on the wrist 10 days ago, going 3-for-37 in that span. He's still playing well in the field, so the Yankees will keep running him out there ... With Alex Rodriguez and the AL batting leader Hideki Matsui (.339) behind Bobby Abreu in the lineup, the right fielder has been getting plenty of good pitches to hit ... Jorge Posada threw in a game Saturday for the first time since April 27 because of a sore shoulder. He'll play in extended spring training games Monday and Tuesday, with a return to the Yankees possible on Wednesday or Thursday. He's still an injury-risk starter for one more week though.

Top 5 Hitting Matchups
Team Schedule
1. Atlanta Braves FLA4, PHI3
2. Boston Red Sox TB3, SEA3
3. L.A. Dodgers COL3, CHC4
4. Oakland A's DET3, LAA3
5. Philadelphia Phillies CIN4, @ATL
N.Y. Mets: Jose B. Reyes continues to pour on the offensive stats, making April a distant memory. His hitting streak reached 15 games against the Dodgers Friday, and he has reached base safely in 30 straight games, which is the longest stretch from the leadoff spot in Mets team history ... On the other side of the Mets' infield, Luis Castillo has a strained left hip flexor that he suffered Friday, which should allow Damion Easley some at-bats through the weekend if not beyond ... Ryan Church has missed 10 games in a row now with a concussion, but he could be back in the lineup by Monday at the latest.

Oakland Athletics: It's a bad week to be a Sweeney in an Oakland uniform. DH Mike Sweeney landed on the DL with a sore left knee -- he's barely held together with scotch tape and gum. Ryan Sweeney was also placed on the disabled list after fouling a ball off his foot on Wednesday. Neither is worth holding onto outside of deeper AL-only formats.

Philadelphia Phillies: Shane Victorino's hitting streak reached a career-high 11 games Friday. He has five stolen bases and 11 runs scored in his past six games ... Chris Coste is batting .341 with five homers and 16 RBI in 91 at-bats. He's taking starts from Carlos Ruiz, but he's not a great prospect, since he didn't reach the majors until he was 33.

Pittsburgh Pirates: Pirates outfielders lead the majors with 35 home runs. Nate McLouth (13) added to his total Friday, Jason Bay (13) has seven homers in May and Xavier Nady (nine) has five in May, although he's slowing just a bit ... Ronny Paulino still hasn't found the hitting stroke that made him a productive Fantasy catcher a couple seasons ago. Ryan Doumit (broken thumb) is hopeful of an early return -- possibly as soon as this week -- but it might take him some time to get his hitting stroke back.

San Diego Padres: Kevin Kouzmanoff leads third basemen in homers in the past couple weeks, and he has five bombs in his past 10 games. He also has seven home games ahead. While Petco Park is a pitching venue, only one of the Crushin' Russian's home runs this year have come on the road.

San Francisco Giants: After getting hit by a pitch on his left hand Wednesday, Aaron Rowand was able to play Friday against San Diego. He was hitting well before the injury, batting .347 with five homer and 19 RBI in May ... Among catchers, only Russell Martin and Rod Barajas have a better batting average for the month of May than Bengie Molina's .347, and Molina has more RBI than both of them in that span ... Rich Aurilia is waiting to pass a kidney stone, so he has missed a couple days in a row. He should be fine for NL-only play by Monday though.

8. Ian Stewart 18
9. Jose Contreras 17
10. Joe Borowski 16
Seattle Mariners: While Adrian Beltre is hitting just under .200 for the month of May, he does have seven homers, which is tied for second among third basemen to Ryan Braun's 11.

St. Louis Cardinals: Joe Mather got the start in right field for the Cardinals Friday, and with Chris Duncan returning the minors, he'll serve as the fourth outfielder behind Rick Ankiel, Skip Schumaker and Ryan Ludwick.

Tampa Bay Rays: Evan Longoria's batting average is still on the low side right now (.252), but he continues to improve each week. He has a legitimate shot -- in this lineup -- to hit 30 home runs and knock in 100 RBI, despite spending the first couple weeks in the minors. He leads all AL rookies with seven home runs and he has a seven-game hitting streak going ... Speaking of Tampa Bay first-round picks, Rocco Baldelli (mitochondrial disorder) went 0-for-5 in his second extended spring training game Saturday. Injuries have limited him to just 127 games in the past three seasons, but he could be ready to start a rehab assignment in the next couple weeks. What's the harm in picking him up in one of the 98-percent of leagues that he's available in and putting him on your DL? He could pay off big-time as a part-time RF/DH in this lineup.

Texas Rangers: How about David Murphy? He once again finds his name on the "Most Added" hitters list, as 22 percent of leagues started to wise up. He now has 36 RBI on the season and the AL's second-best rookie hitter, behind Longoria. He's batting .288 and when you're hitting behind leadoff man Ian Kinsler, Michael Young, Josh Hamilton and Milton Bradley -- there's an excellent chance you're going to have people on base to knock in ... Young has an active 15-game hitting streak, and Kinsler's streak is right behind him at 14.

Worst 5 Hitting Matchups
Team Schedule
1. Chicago Cubs @SD3, @LAD4
2. Kansas City Royals @CHW3, @NYY3
3. L.A. Angels @SEA3, @OAK3
4. Arizona Diamondbacks @MIL3, @PIT3
5. San Diego Padres CHC3, NYM4
Toronto Blue Jays: With Gregg Zaun battling an elbow injury through mid-June on the DL, the Blue Jays are giving Rod Barajas plenty of at-bats and he's taking advantage. He has hit safely in 13 of his past 16 games, and he has a .380 batting average in May ... Aaron Hill collided with David Eckstein in the field on Thursday and his status entering the weekend is day-to-day.

Washington Nationals: Ryan Zimmerman has been sidelined for the past five games because of a sore left shoulder. There is still no timetable for his return, but manager Manny Acta believes he is feeling much better. Check the slugger's status before Monday. Doctors told Zimmerman there was no structural damage ... It's time to give Jesus Flores some credit in Fantasy play. It's going to be a couple more weeks before either Paul Lo Duca or Johnny Estrada return from injuries, and Flores is batting .344 in 64 at-bats. A couple foul balls in the melon ended his night early Friday, but when healthy, he's a solid play in larger mixed and NL-only leagues.

Feel free to send me a question or a comment. Here are a few that you can just clip and paste. "Are you insane?" ... "What are you thinking?" ... "You're an idiot -- but can you tell me if I should make this trade?" ... "I have a beautiful sister that likes Fantasy dorks, want her number?" ... Send your comments, hate mail, credit card numbers and beautiful sister's phone numbers to me by clicking on my Columnist page and sending a note through the feedback form.

Jair Jurrjens
Jurrjens still trade candidate
Jair Jurrjens, SP, ATL
11:57 AM
News: CBSSports.com senior writer Danny Knobler reports sources said the Braves could try and trade SP Jair Jurrjens if he proves healthy in spring training. The Braves tried to trade Jurrjens this winter, but they couldn't find a taker because potential trade partners weren't convinced Jurrjens was healthy or could stay healthy. Jurrjens missed the end of the 2011 season with a knee injury and has made just 43 starts the last two seasons.
Analysis: When Jurrjens is healthy, he is one of the best pitchers in the majors. His 1.87 ERA in the first half last season was second to only Jered Weaver among major-league starters. Jurrjens has won 13-plus games in three of the last four seasons. So why would the Braves want to trade him? Well, Jurrjens is a free agent after the 2013 season and it appears Atlanta is ready to clear some rotation space for the likes of Julio Teheran and Randall Delgado. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens with Jurrjens this spring. There appears to be a chance he might not finish the spring with Atlanta, which could mean Jurrjens slides down draft boards in NL-only formats that lose players who are traded to the AL. In mixed leagues, Jurrjens is still a decent mid-round Fantasy pick.

A.J. Burnett
Angels, Indians interested in Burnett
A.J. Burnett, SP, NYY
11:40 AM
News: FOXSports.com reports sources indicate the Angels are interested in Yankees SP A.J. Burnett, whose name has been heavily mentioned in trade rumors with the Pirates. However, the Angels are on Burnett's no-trade list and he wants to stay east. Pittsburgh is still considered the heavy favorite to potentially land Burnett. CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman said the Indians have also inquired about Burnett. The trade talks involve DH Travis Hafner, but Cleveland is unsure if it would make that trade. The Yankees also don't mind the free agent DH options available.
Analysis: Right now the hold up in the Pirates trade is how much money Pittsburgh will be willing to pay of Burnett's remaining salary over the next two years ($33 million) and the prospects the Pirates would send to the Yankees. Perhaps these rumors regarding the Angels and Indians might speed up the process, but other sources have said the Yankees would keep Burnett if the deal isn't right for them. Wherever Burnett pitches in 2012, he is going to be a late-round Fantasy pick coming off a turbulent 2011 campaign.

Coco Crisp
Crisp moving over for Cespedes?
Coco Crisp, CF, OAK
10:13 AM
News: Sources have told FOXSports.com that the Athletics intend to start newly signed Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes in center field right away, which would move Coco Crisp over to left field and Seth Smith to DH. Cespedes is already 26 and has faced upper-level competition in Cuba, but some scouts think he could use some time in the minors to adjust to the U.S. game.
Analysis: None of these reports are coming directly from the Athletics, so you should consider them nothing more than speculation at this point. Still, speculation is better than nothing, and if Cespedes is in fact going to be on the opening day roster, then he might even be worth drafting in the middle rounds, given his upside. As for Crisp, moving to left field wouldn't have any real impact on his Fantasy value. The Athletics outfield is even more crowded with the Cespedes signing, but the team seems to consider Crisp a mainstay at the top of the lineup. Given his base-stealing ability and doubles pop, he's a worthy fourth or fifth outfielder in mixed leagues.

Ryan Braun
Braun will know fate by Feb. 24
Ryan Braun, LF, MIL
10:03 AM
News: Monday came and went without a ruling on Brewers OF Ryan Braun's pending 50-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance. It was the 25th day since the three-man panel heard Braun's appeal. According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the panel was supposed to “make all reasonable efforts” to deliver a verdict within that period of time, but chairman Shyam Das was given an extension. A decision is expected before Braun reports to spring training on Feb. 24, but the exact date is unknown since the process is intended to be confidential.
Analysis: The panel's need for a lengthy deliberation is theoretically a good sign, but then again, since the process is usually confidential, we don't know how common such extensions are. Braun's case is said to be unique, but it might not make much of a difference to the panel. If you're drafting now, you should do so with the expectation that Braun will miss the first 50 games of the season, which could allow him to slip to the middle rounds in standard mixed leagues. If the appeal is upheld, though, he's suddenly back to being a first-rounder in Fantasy.

Mike Moustakas
Moustakas in great shape
Mike Moustakas, 3B, KC
12:48 PM
News: Royals manager Ned Yost had his contract option for the 2013 season picked up on Tuesday, but the Kansas City skipper seemed more interested in talking about his 2012 team. Yost was impressed with how many players have shown up for spring training early and is really blown away by the fitness level of a few of his players. "Billy Butler and Mike Moustakas -- I'm extremely proud of both of those guys," Yost told reporters. "They could be in the best shape they've been in their careers. Billy looks great, and I didn't even hardly recognize Moose he looks so good."
Analysis: While the fitness level doesn't necessarily mean a player will have success, it really can't hurt either. To hear Yost rave about Moustakas should get the attention of Fantasy owners. Moustakas, who is one of the Royals' top prospects, struggled when he first arrived in the majors last season. However, he seemed to have figured it out by season's end. Moustakas hit .352 with four homers and 12 RBI in his final 22 games last season. He is definitely one of the more intriguing Fantasy sleepers heading into 2012 and this latest report just adds to his appeal on Draft Day.

Jake Westbrook
Westbrook sheds 25 pounds
Jake Westbrook, SP, STL
2:11 PM
News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook has shown up for spring training 25 pounds lighter than he was last season.
Analysis: This is the time of year where everyone seems to come to camp in better shape than they left last season. Hopefully for Westbrook it makes a difference in his game. He did go 12-9 in 2011, but he posted a 4.66 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 33 starts. Westbrook can chew up innings, but he won't post impressive ERA, WHIP or strikeout total. Leave him for NL-only Fantasy formats.

Jhoulys Chacin
Chacin fires back at GM
Jhoulys Chacin, SP, COL
12:07 PM
News: The Denver Post reports Rockies SP Jhoulys Chacin responded to comments made by GM Dan O'Dowd, who expressed concern recently about Chacin's offseason conditioning. "I came to Arizona this past Monday. I have not stopped training during the winter, both in my country and here," Chacin told Venezuelan newspaper Meridiano. "I have always done the best job I could all throughout these past few months. I don't know where these comments came from. I believe they're the result of what other people have told him, instead of his own personal evaluation. I am looking forward to meeting O'Dowd personally, and I am confident that he will have a different conclusion after a firsthand evaluation." O'Dowd made his comments after seeing Chacin at the team's Fanfest in January. "He looked OK. It wasn't as bad as I anticipated," O'Dowd said. "It's still not what it should be."
Analysis: O'Dowd believes Chacin needs to lose weight because the excess pounds affect the balance in his delivery and cause his fastball command to suffer. Chacin spent much of the winter working out in his native Venezuela after working out in Tucson previously. On Feb. 9, Chacin reportedly weighed 226 pounds but anticipates being close to the 218 pounds he was last spring when he reports to spring training on Feb. 19. Chacin went 8-7 with a 3.16 ERA in 18 pre-All Star break starts last year and went 3-7 with a 4.31 ERA in 13 starts after the break. Chacin struggled with walks in the second half and was much more hittable down the stretch than he was early in the season. This situation is clearly not the way Fantasy owners want to see Chacin kick off the 2012 season, but perhaps this will provide him with the motivation he needs to reach elite status. Look to Chacin as a mid-round Fantasy option on Draft Day.

Kyle Seager
Seager gets work at first base
Kyle Seager, 3B, SEA
1:25 PM
News: The Seattle Times reports Mariners 3B Kyle Seager took grounders at first base Tuesday. Manager Eric Wedge said it was because of pitcher fielding drills Seager was at first base.
Analysis: It's interesting to see Seager working at another position in camp with Wedge calling him the front-runner for the third-base job. However, it appears clear that Seager was just needed as an extra body during fielding drills. Justin Smoak is still the team's first baseman and Mike Carp is his expected backup. Carlos Guillen can also play first base, so we can't look too much into Seager taking grounders at first. His main focus should be winning the 3B job over the likes of Alex Liddi and Chone Figgins. Consider Seager nothing more than a late-round, low-end Fantasy corner infielder on Draft Day. He does have some sleeper potential, but don't reach for him in drafts.

Travis Hafner
Hafner on Yankees radar?
Travis Hafner, DH, CLE

News: CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman reports the Indians have inquired about Yankees SP A.J. Burnett, who has been heavily involved in trade rumors. The talks with the Indians revolve around a Burnett for DH Travis Hafner deal. However, Cleveland is unsure if it would make that trade, and the Yankees also appear content with the free agent DH options available.
Analysis: This trade rumor is definitely interesting because a trade to the Yankees would immediately elevate Hafner's Fantasy appeal. He would end up going to a hitter's park and be inserted into one of the best lineups in baseball. That means a ton of chances to fill the stat sheet. However, it doesn't appear this deal is imminent, so Fantasy owners shouldn't get their hopes up. It's best to view Hafner as a low-end, injury-risk Fantasy option for the late rounds of deep formats on Draft Day. Hafner continues to post poor home run totals and hasn't played more than 100 games in three of his last four seasons.

Fukudome lands on South Side

News: Kosuke Fukudome is headed back to the Windy City, but this time he is going to call the South Side home. Fukudome agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract with the White Sox on Tuesday. The deal also included a club option for the 2013 season. "Kosuke adds to our outfield depth and gives Robin (Ventura) another left-handed bat to mix into the lineup based on matchups," assistant general manager Rick Hahn said in a statement. "He can play center field and right and provides flexibility to our roster."
Analysis: Fukudome played for the Cubs from 2008 to the trade deadline last season when he was shipped to Cleveland. He had his most disappointing campaign in the majors in 2011, which is why he probably stayed on the free-agent market longer than expected. The White Sox are expected to open 2012 with an outfield alignment of Alex Rios in center, Dayan Viciedo in right field and Alejandro De Aza in left field. Brent Lillibridge is considered a backup at all three outfield positions and now Fukudome joins the mix as another outfield body. However, since he likely won't begin the season as a starter, then Fukudome can be left undrafted in most Fantasy formats. Consider him at best an AL-only Fantasy reserve.
