Oscar Taveras to return this week
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9:11 am ET) Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras is planning to return by midweek, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Taveras has missed time with an ankle injury, and was supposed to play some games in Triple-A this past weekend. Taveras could not make that start, and will hope to return by midweek. He has been taking batting practice and shagging fly balls.

Roy Oswalt drawing rave reviews
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9:01 am ET) Rockies pitcher Roy Oswalt is drawing rave reviews after his first rehab start of the season, according to the Denver Post.

Oswalt was fantastic over five innings Saturday, and was throwing in the low 90s. Rockies senior vice president of major-league operations Bill Geivett said Oswalt "had very good command" during the appearance. He will make his next appearance Friday at Double-A Tulsa.

Cardinals using caution with Michael Wacha
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(8:52 am ET) The Cardinals are preaching patience with pitching prospect Michael Wacha , according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Wacha was passed over for lefty Tyler Lyons, who will make a start with the major-league club Wednesday. Even though While some fans are wondering why Wacha wasn't promoted, general manager John Mozeliak said the team needs to be careful with the young starter.

"We also want to make sure that we don’t put him into a situation where all of a sudden we are truly having to worry about his innings and his pitch count to the degree (of) young pitchers coming up in the past," Mozeliak said. Mozeliak also admitted the service time clock was playing a role in the team's decision.

The 21-year-old Wacha has a 1.89 ERA in 47 2/3 Triple-A innings.

Andrew Brown placed on DL
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(8:37 am ET) Mets outfielder Andrew Brown has been placed on the seven day minor-league disabled list.

Brown left Sunday's game with an oblique strain. He's been playing with Triple-A Las Vegas, but was a candidate to be called up. Brown has already seen 15 at-bats with the major-league club this season. The 28-year-old is hitting .365/.441/.652 in 115 Triple-A at-bats this season.

Scott Feldman succeeding with same repertoire
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(8:27 am ET) Cubs pitcher Scott Feldman is having a breakout season, but isn't doing anything drastically different.

Feldman is utilizing the same four-pitch mix he's always used. Aside from throwing his changeup less, Feldman's using most of his pitches at the same rate as well. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as Feldman has been fairly effective the past two years. While he had a 5.09 ERA last year, his 3.98 FIP was a much better indicator on how he should have performed. He had an equally strong 3.99 FIP in 32 innings in 2011.

Feldman is certainly pitching over his head right now, but could still post a solid ERA once regression hits. The bigger issue for Fantasy owners is whether he'll do enough to remain on teams once his ERA starts to rise. Feldman isn't a strong strikeout pitcher, and won't get Fantasy teams many points in that area. He could be a sell-high. Feldman will take on the Reds Friday.

Miguel Cabrera swats three homers in losing effort
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12:27 am ET) Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera was dialed in as he recorded his second career three-home run game Sunday night against the Rangers.

Cabrera unleashed a three-run home run in the third, a solo shot in the fifth and another solo home run in the eighth inning. He became the 23rd player in major-league history to finish 4 for 4 with three home runs, five RBI and four runs scored. However, he became the first player to do it in a losing cause as the Tigers fell to the Rangers 11-8.

Cabrera hit .304 with eight homers and 34 RBI through 42 games during his triple crown season in 2012. He is hitting .387 with 11 home runs and 47 RBI through 42 games this season.

Joe Nathan closes out Tigers
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12:19 am ET) Rangers closer Joe Nathan notched his 13th save of the season Sunday night against the Tigers.

Nathan, who entered the game in the ninth inning with a three-run lead, worked his way around a leadoff walk as he retired the next three batters to secure an 11-8 victory. He struck out one and improved his ERA to 2.12 after converting his 13th save in as many chances.

Prince Fielder collects three RBI vs. Rangers
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12:16 am ET) Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder is hoping to snap out of a recent funk. Fielder drove in a run Saturday for the first time in more than a week and finished 2 for 4 with a walk and three RBI Sunday against the Rangers.

"It's definitely not going to hurt," Fielder said. "That's what I'm trying to do, just trying to hit the ball hard. That's the goal, to hit the ball hard and see what happens."

Fielder is hitting .209 (9 for 43) with five RBI in his last 12 games. He is hitting .242 with two homers and 10 RBI in 17 May games.

David Murphy homers while hitting second
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12:09 am ET) Rangers manager Ron Washington placed outfielder David Murphy in the No. 2 spot in the batting order for the second consecutive night Sunday. Murphy responded with his fifth home run of the season against the Tigers.

Murphy launched a three-run home run in the fifth inning that gave the Rangers a one-run lead. He finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored and four RBI in an 11-8 victory.

"I'm going to try to keep [Murphy] there so he doesn't have to wait around to get at-bats and he can be involved in the game right away," Washington told MLB.com before the game. "Maybe that'll start getting him going."

Murphy, who did not hit second at all last season, is hitting .215 with five homers and 16 RBI.

Omar Infante with two hits at leadoff spot
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12:05 am ET) With Austin Jackson hurt and Andy Dirks out of the lineup, Tigers second baseman Omar Infante took over the leadoff spot Sunday against the Rangers.

"When you lead him off, you're leading him off because he's your only guy in that situation," manager Jim Leyland told MLB.com. "Normally I wouldn't have him leading off but, with the situation we're in, if you look at the lineup, who else would you lead off? ... The only other guy you'd think about is [Avisail] Garcia and I don't want to do that."

Infante finished 2 for 5 with two runs scored in an 11-8 defeat. He is hitting .313 with three home runs and 14 RBI in 144 at-bats.
