At-bats will continue to hold back Eric Chavez
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(4:55 pm ET) With another three hits, including a triple, Monday at Colorado, the Diamondbacks' Eric Chavez is hitting .343 with a .984 OPS this year -- numbers good enough to make him the 15th-best third baseman in Head-to-Head leagues so far. Unfortunately, the way the Diamondbacks use him, he has no hope of climbing those rankings. But don't take my word for it:

"You'll find if I do it [play him more] he will wear down a little bit and probably have medical problems," manager Kirk Gibson said after Monday's game. "We can't afford that."

Not only does Chavez sit against lefties, but he never plays more than two days in a row. With all those limitations on him, he pretty much has to hit .343 with a .984 OPS to make any sort of impact in Fantasy. As good as he is, he won't keep that up.

Jordan Walden not expected to be ready Monday
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4:53 pm ET) Braves reliever Jordan Walden (shoulder) is eligible to come off the disabled list Monday, but manager Fredi Gonzalez said Tuesday he probably will need more time, according to MLB.com. Walden is 1-1 with a 4.85 ERA in 14 relief outings.

Xavier Avery promoted to Triple-A
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(4:49 pm ET) The Orioles promoted outfielder Xavier Avery from Double-A Bowie to Triple-A Norfolk Tuesday, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Avery played in 32 games for the Orioles last year with a .223 average, a homer, six RBI and six stolen bases. Avery was hitting .300 with Bowie over 160 at-bats this year with 12 RBI, 34 runs scored and 12 steals.

Nolan Reimold to travel on road trip
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(4:47 pm ET) Orioles injured outfielder Nolan Reimold could travel with the team on upcoming road trip beginning Thursday in Toronto, the Baltimore Sun reports Tuesday.

Reimold will continue hitting on the trip before eventually going out on a minor-league injury rehab assignment. He is on the 15-day DL due to a right hamstring strain.

Adam Jones playing through leg soreness
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(4:45 pm ET) Orioles outfielder Adam Jones is getting the start at designated hitter Tuesday versus the Yankees as he's dealing with some right leg soreness, MLB.com reports.

Jones stole second base late in Monday's game and came up a bit lame following hitting the bag. He's healthy enough to hit, but the Orioles want him to take a game off his feet.

Jones, batting .319 on the year, enters Tuesday's game with a five-game hitting streak in which he's gone 8 for 23 (.348) with a homer and five RBI. He also has three stolen bases over that stretch.

Eric Hosmer not elevating the ball
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(4:44 pm ET) A look at Eric Hosmer's batted-ball stats gives a pretty good indication why he has only one home run so far, and the good news is it's not because of diminished skills. He's simply not getting any elevation on the ball. His fly-ball rate of 19.5 percent is the third-lowest in all of baseball, behind only slap-it-and-run types Everth Cabrera and Elvis Andrus.

Of course, a relatively low fly-ball rate wouldn't be the worst thing for Hosmer's batting average, but this one is clearly doing him more harm than good.

That's not to say the Royals first baseman trying to hit the ball on the ground, but as often as he's doing it, I can't help but think his mechanics are off. In other words, his problem is correctable. It's just a matter of correcting it.

Practically speaking, none of this does any good for Hosmer owners at the moment, but if his back-to-back multi-hit games lead to a full-fledged hot streak, don't hesitate to buy into him again.

Taylor Teagarden nearing game action
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(4:41 pm ET) The Orioles say catcher Taylor Teagarden is a few days from playing in an extended spring training game, the Baltimore Sun reports Tuesday. The game could come Monday.

Teagarden is on the disabled list with a thumb injury and recently had his split removed. He's begun a hitting and catching progression that will lead him to rehab games.

O's down to two choices for Thursday start
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(4:39 pm ET) The Orioles are down to two choices to take the vacant start Thursday at Toronto, the Baltimore Sun reports Tuesday. Manager Buck Showalter will decide between Jake Arrieta and T.J. McFarland

Showalter said a lot will depend on what happens with his bullpen over the next day or two. Arrieta appears to be the favorite to get the nod at this point.

Arrieta was sent down after making four starts this year and going 1-1 with a 6.63 ERA. He was sent down to Triple-A Norfolk to work on his command and he displayed enough improvement to return in the bullpen.

Salvador Perez out of starting lineup with hip injury
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(4:38 pm ET) Royals catcher Salvador Perez is not in the team's starting lineup Tuesday against the Astros, according to the Kansas City Star.

Perez has a deep hip bruise, and is considered day-to-day. Perez will not start Tuesday, but is available if necessary. Perez is hitting .308/.324/.413 in 143 at-bats.

Not time to sell low on Matt Kemp
by Al Melchior | Data Analyst
(4:35 pm ET) Owning Matt Kemp in Fantasy has been a frustration so far this season, but it's still far too early to look to replace him as your top outfielder. Though the Dodgers center fielder is striking out a little too often and not hitting for power, Kemp could still redeem his season at any time.

It's not as if he has suddenly stopped hitting flyballs, like Dustin Pedroia and Eric Hosmer have. Kemp normally hits for the most power on balls that go to center field, and he hasn't hit many deep shots that way so far. Still, he has hit just 67 balls up the middle this season -- and that includes grounders -- so we're still looking at a pretty small sample.

As long as Kemp continues to put the ball in the air and avoid popups -- and he's been doing both at reasonable rates -- there's a chance for him to rediscover his power.
