It's quiz time!

You don't get points just for filling in your name correctly, and you actually don't get anything for getting a perfect score (outside of being able to go out to a bar and tell every woman you see that you correctly answered all 15 questions on a Fantasy quiz on the Internet today), but, hey, everybody loves a fun little testing of wits. And if you behave, we might just get to play a little seven-up later on.

Scott Downs to throw live batting practice soon

(6:02 pm ET) Royals pitcher Scott Downs is slated to throw live batting practice soon, according to the Kansas City Star

Downs has been sidelined since August 2 due to a neck injury. The Royals will return to Kansas City August 25, so that would be the earliest Downs would throw the session. He's posted a 5.29 ERA over 34 innings. 


Jose Molina dealing with knee soreness

(5:59 pm ET) Rays catcher Jose Molina is dealing with knee soreness, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Molina has sat for four games due to the issue. It's not serious, and Molina is expected to return to action Saturday. He's hitting .186 over 194 at-bats. 


Justin Verlander to start Saturday

(5:57 pm ET) Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander will start Game 2 of the team's Saturday doubleheader, according to the Detroit Free Press

Verlander has been sidelined since August 11 due to a shoulder injury. Verlander has been able to get through his bullpen sessions without any issues, and is ready to make his return. He has a 4.76 ERA over 158 2/3 innings. 


Javy Guerra should be activated Saturday

Guerra spent some time on the bereavement list, but is ready to return. He's posted a 3.00 ERA over 33 innings. 


Kyle Lohse to rejoin rotation Monday

(5:39 pm ET) Brewers pitcher Kyle Lohse will rejoin the club's rotation Monday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Lohse had his last start skipped due to an ankle injury. He'll take on the Padres Monday. Lohse has a 3.49 ERA over 159 2/3 innings. 


Nelson Cruz homers again vs. Cubs, establishes new career-high

(5:37 pm ET) Orioles outfielder Nelson Cruz had just one hit Friday against the Cubs, but he made it count as he set a new career-high in home runs in a 4-1 loss.

Cruz clubbed a solo homer in the seventh inning for the team's only run of the game, while finishing the game 1 for 4 overall. It was his second game in a row with a home run, giving him 34 for the season.

Cruz leads the American League with his 34 home runs, while ranking fourth in RBI with 87 in 124 games. He is hitting .258/.326/.520 in 473 at-bats overall.  


Luis Valbuena goes deep for homer No. 12

(5:34 pm ET) Cubs infielder Luis Valbuena displayed his power again Friday, as he homered for the second time in three games in a 4-1 win over the Orioles.

Valbuena went 2 for 4 with a solo home run, his only run scored or driven in during the game. He has 12 home runs and 42 RBI in 117 games, while hitting .245/.324/.429 overall on the season.


Gonzalez Germen optioned to the minors

(5:32 pm ET) Mets pitcher Gonzalez Germen has been optioned to the minors Friday.

Bartolo Colon returned from the bereavement list, making Germen expendable. Germen has a 5.27 ERA over 27 1/3 innings. 


Hector Rondon saves sixth straight

(5:31 pm ET) Cubs closer Hector Rondon casually closed out a 4-1 win over the Orioles Friday, as he worked a perfect ninth inning.

Rondon set the Orioles down in order on just eight innings, while picking up two flyball outs and one groundball out. He has now saved six chances in a row, and is 20 for 24 on the season, with a 2.86 ERA In 50 1/3 innings.  


Bartolo Colon activated from the bereavement list

(5:30 pm ET) Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon has been activated from the bereavement list Friday.

Colon was slated to pitch Sunday, so the move isn't a huge surprise. He's posted a 3.85 ERA over 161 1/3 innings.
