Astros closer Luke Gregerson nearly perfect to begin the year
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(10:48 pm ET) Astros closer Luke Gregerson has been as effective as can be to begin his first season in Houston. Gregerson has thrown seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and one walk.

"Any time you go out there and get guys out, no matter what the situation, is always a positive thing," Gregerson said to the Houston Chronicle. "That's what we’re here to do. I’m very happy right now with the way the ball’s coming out of my hand, the effectiveness of the pitches.

"When you're out there (closing compared to other relief roles), it doesn’t feel much different. You know that's the end. You know you have to finish it out and make sure we walk away with that victory, and so far, so good."

Medical staff will determine status of Reds' Devin Mesoraco
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10:41 pm ET) Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco told reporters that his playing status moving forward will be up to the team's medical staff, per MLB.com. Mesoraco has been out of the starting lineup since April 12 because of a left hip impingement, but made a pinch-hit appearance on Tuesday against Milwaukee.

"I'm just going off what the trainers and the doctors tell me to do," Mesoraco said. "That's not my expertise. I'm worried about hitting the ball, my swing and things like that. I just kind of follow the protocol.

"You want to get back in there, which is human nature. For me, being a competitor, I want to be in there as much as I possibly can. But, those guys have a job to do and they do a good job, so I trust them."
