Avisail Garcia takes batting practice Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8:19 pm ET) White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia took part in a live batting practice session Tuesday, ESPNChicago.com reports.

Garcia doesn't have a date set for a rehab assignment and it's still possible the team holds him out from returning to the White Sox for the remainder of the year despite the strides he has made. "I don't think we're going to be pressing that he has to make it here, but if he's totally healthy and he's ready to go I know I would be happy to see him," manager Robin Ventura said. "He can make it here whenever he makes it here. If he can get some time in the minor leagues at some point, just to be able to get there and play, then you figure that out afterward. You expect him to get some time in the minor leagues."

(8:16 pm ET) The Cardinals released catcher George Kottaras Tuesday. Kottaras was designated for assignment last weekend after the team signed A.J. Pierzynski.

MRI comes back clean for Kohl Stewart
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8:10 pm ET) An MRI on the shoulder of Twins pitching prospect Kohl Stewart came back clean, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Stewart is expected to resume playing catch soon, beginning to build arm strength in anticipation of starting again this season. He owns a 2.42 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 58:23 K:BB ratio with Class A Cedar Rapids.

Brandon Workman is Plan B for Jon Lester's Wednesday start
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8:07 pm ET) The Red Sox have a plan in place to use Brandon Workman as Wednesday's starter if Jon Lester is scratched due to ongoing trade talks, MLB.com reports.

"Although there's a lot of rumor and talk with his name attached to it, right now he's scheduled to start tomorrow night," manager John Farrell said Tuesday. "We have a contingency plan, sure. If Jon is traded by this time tomorrow [4 p.m.], Brandon Workman will start."

Lester has been a hot name in trade rumors this month, with the Red Sox out of the playoff race and the pitcher due to become a free agent this offseason.

Rays 'talking and willing' to trade David Price
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8:02 pm ET) The Rays are "talking and willing" to trade pitcher David Price despite the team's recent improvement in the standings, CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman reports.

If the Rays do indeed have the courage to deal away their ace, they should receive a massive haul. According to USA Today, the team could receive a package from the Cardinals that includes outfield prospect Oscar Taveras, pitcher Shelby Miller and a first-round pick, though the proposed deal is merely speculation at this stage. It seems more likely that the Rays hang on to their ace at this time and look to deal him during the offseason.

Brandon Belt swings bat Tuesday, could return this weekend
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7:50 pm ET) Giants first baseman Brandon Belt took some swings Tuesday after passing his concussion test the previous day, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Belt could be cleared for game action this weekend, either on a rehab assignment or back with the Giants. He has been out since July 19 while recovering from his injury.

Carlos Rodon to make Class A debut Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7:47 pm ET) White Sox pitching prospect Carlos Rodon is scheduled to join high Class A Winston-Salem Wednesday and pitch in relief for the team on the same day, MLB.com reports.

Rodon made two appearances with the team's Arizona League affiliate, giving up two earned runs on four hits in three innings while striking out five and walking none. He was selected third overall in his year's amateur draft and could move quickly through the system.

Kohl Stewart dealing with shoulder tightness
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7:38 pm ET) Twins pitching prospect Kohl Stewart had an MRI on his right shoulder Tuesday after experiencing tightness recently, the Cedar Rapids Gazette reports.

Pitching in his first full season after being selected fourth overall in the 2013 draft, Stewart owns a 2.42 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 58:23 K:BB ratio in 81 2/3 innings over 17 starts with Class A Cedar Rapids.

George Springer takes batting practice Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7:35 pm ET) Astros outfielder George Springer participated in batting practice on the field Tuesday for the first time since going on the disabled list, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Springer is expected to increase his activities over the next few days. "He’s increased his activity every day," manager Bo Porter said. "I think yesterday he was able to throw and do a little shagging. He’s been hitting in the cage and he’s going to continue to hit and it seems like he’s progressing well."

Springer hasn't played since July 19 while dealing with a quad injury.

Travis Snider returns to lineup Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7:02 pm ET) Pirates outfielder Travis Snider is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants.

Snider hasn't started since last Wednesday as he was recovering from a hamstring injury. He was able to pinch-hit Sunday, smacking a home run in the process. Snider has hit .256/.337/.396 with six home runs and 19 RBI in 164 at-bats.
