Collin McHugh shut down for final week of season

(7:55 pm ET) The Astros have shut down pitcher Collin McHugh for the remainder of the season, according to the Houston Chronicle on Monday.

McHugh was expected to make one final start before the end of the season, but it appears the team wanted to take a cautious approach with his workload. McHugh ends his season with an 11-9 record in 25 starts. He posted a 2.73 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP with a 157:41 K:BB ratio over 154 2/3 innings pitched.


Howie Kendrick dealing with hamstring injury

(6:50 pm ET) Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick was held out of the starting lineup Monday night against the A's because of a hamstring injury, MLB.com reports. Kendrick left Saturday with a the issue, and was held out on Monday as a precaution. He is hitting .292 with seven homers and 72 RBI over 600 at-bats.

Roenis Elias shut down for 4-6 weeks

(6:48 pm ET) Mariners pitcher Roenis Elias was diagnosed with a strained flexor bundle in his left elbow, according to ESPN on Monday. His season will come to an end, as the team will shut him down for 4-6 weeks. Elias posted a 3.85 ERA and 143:64 K:BB ratio in 163 2/3 innings.

Tyson Ross shut down for remainder of season

(6:45 pm ET) Padres manager Bud Black announced that starting pitcher Tyson Ross will be shut down for the remainder of the season. Joe Wieland will get the start Wednesday in his place, the team announced.

Ross made his final start on Sept. 13 and was unable to pitch again due to discomfort in his lower forearm. His 2014 season comes to an end with a 2.81 ERA and 195 strikeouts over 195 2/3 innings.


Marco Gonzales skips trip to Chicago due to an illness

(6:41 pm ET) Cardinals rookie pitcher Marco Gonzales did not travel with the team for their upcoming series in Chicago against the Cubs because of the flu, FOX Sports Midwest reports Monday.

He will likely rejoin the team once he is no longer dealing with an illness. Gonzales has posted a 4.70 ERA over 30 2/3 innings of work.


Tommy Milone could return Thursday

(6:37 pm ET) Twins pitcher Tommy Milone threw approximately 30-35 pitches in a bullpen session on Monday. Milone, who missed Sunday's start with neck stiffness, could return to the mound as early as Thursday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Abraham Almonte not in the lineup against Colorado

(6:33 pm ET) Padres outfielder Abraham Almonte was held out of the starting lineup Monday night against Colorado. Almonte left Saturday's game with an ankle issue, and hasn't been able to return. He is hitting .230 with three homers and 15 RBI over 204 at-bats.

Scott Atchison nails down second save of the season

(6:29 pm ET) Indians reliever Scott Atchison had some issues with his command, but managed to escape a rough outing with his second save of the season Monday afternoon against the Royals.

Atchison allowed a run-scoring single to Norichika Aoki in the 10th inning before closing out a 4-3 win, resuming a game that was suspended 21 days ago in Kansas City. Atchison owns a 2.66 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP over 71 innings of relief.


Alex Avila a late add to Monday's lineup

(6:21 pm ET) Updating a previous item: Tigers catcher Alex Avila was officially cleared from a concussion he suffered in early September, and was inserted into the starting lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox, the team announced. Avila is hitting .223/.331/.371 over 372 at-bats.

Michael Morse, Angel Pagan still sidelined Monday

(6:18 pm ET) The Giants kept outfielders Michael Morse and Angel Pagan out of the starting lineup Monday night against the Dodgers, the team announced.

Morse is nursing an oblique injury, while Pagan has a lingering injury to his back Both players run the risk of missing San Francisco's three-game series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.
