Giants 1B Brandon Belt goes 2 for 3 with RBI in loss

(3:06 pm ET) Giants first baseman Brandon Belt continued his recent offensive surge during Saturday's loss to the Nationals. 

Belt went 2 for 3 with two doubles and a RBI in the 9-3 loss.

Belt is now hitting .370 with 10 hits, three doubles and six RBI over his last seven games.


Report: Padres taking calls for Ian Kennedy

(3:05 pm ET) Padres pitcher Ian Kennedy has started to attract interest as a trade-deadline acquisition, according to a report by the Boston Globe.

Kennedy is making $9.85 million this year and is scheduled to be a free agent after this season. He's allowed a total of four earned runs in his last four starts, catching the eye of contenders looking to pick up a player for the stretch run. 


Report: Phillies nearly traded Ben Revere to Angels

(3:02 pm ET) The Phillies had worked out a deal to send outfielder Ben Revere to the Angels a few weeks ago, according to a report by the Boston Globe. The trade would have sent pitcher Trevor Gott to the Phillies. 

The Angels reportedly pulled out of the deal at the last minute and tried to replace Gott with another pitching prospect, but an agreement couldn't be reached. 


Nationals CF Michael Taylor slams fifth home run of the season

(3:02 pm ET) Nationals center fielder Michael Taylor hit his fifth home run of the season during Saturday's win over the Giants.

Taylor went 1 for 5 with a solo blast in the first inning to start off the scoring in what ended as a 9-3 win.

Taylor is hitting .321 with 17 hits, five doubles, a home run and five RBI in his last 14 games.


Nationals LF Tyler Moore gets three hits, four RBI in win

(2:59 pm ET) Nationals left fielder Tyler Moore went 3 for 4 with two doubles and four RBI in Saturday's win over the Giants.

Moore entered the game hitting just .250 with four hits over his last five games.


Nationals RF Bryce Harper gets three hits, slams home run

(2:50 pm ET) Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper continued his offensive tear through the season during Saturday's matchup against the Giants.

Harper went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double and two RBI. Harper hit a two-run blast, his 25th of the season,  in the first inning to set the tone in the 9-3 win. Harper later hit his 19th double of the season.

Harper is hitting .375 with 18 hits, six doubles, four home runs and nine RBI over his last 13 games.


Giants SP Madison Bumgarner allows six runs in loss

(2:41 pm ET) Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner got rocked early in his outing against the Nationals on Saturday.

Bumgarner gave up three runs in the first inning after allowing home runs to Bryce Harper and Michael Taylor. Overall, Bumgarner threw five innings, allowed eight hits and six earned runs while throwing 86 pitches. He picked up his fifth loss of the season.

Bumgarner (8-5) has a 3.34 ERA with 114 strikeouts and 21 walks in 113 1/3 innings this season.


Twins' Ervin Santana activated for Sunday's start

(2:00 pm ET) As expected, the Twins activated pitcher Ervin Santana from the suspended list on Saturday. 

Santana will start Sunday's game for Minnesota. 

Santana served an 80-game suspension after testing positive for steroids in the spring. He was 3-0, 1.74 in three rehab starts for Triple-A Rochester. 


Padres' Derek Norris suffers shoulder sprain, stays in lineup

(1:56 pm ET) Padres catcher Derek Norris suffered a sprain of the AC joint in his left shoulder during Friday's game, per U-T San Diego.

Norris will stay in the lineup and off the DL, however. "Doctors say it can't any worse," interim manager Pat Murphy said. 


Mariners' Jesus Sucre gets start over Mike Zunino

(1:43 pm ET) Mariners catcher Mike Zunino is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game, marking the first time he'll start the game on the bench since June 21. He's started the last 10 behind the plate.

Replacing Zunino at catcher is Jesus Sucre, who gets his tenth start of the year.
