Chase Headley not starting Tuesday, will soon

(3:58 pm ET) Newly acquired Yankees third baseman Chase Headley is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers, but he will be available off the bench, manager Joe Girardi told reporters before first pitch.

Headley was acquired from the Padres in a trade earlier in the day Tuesday, and will likely step into the lineup as the team's starting third baseman before long. 


Paco Rodriguez optioned back to Triple-A

(3:56 pm ET) Dodgers reliever Paco Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque to clear a roster spot Tuesday for starting pitcher Josh Beckett, who was activated off the disabled list.

Geovany Soto heads back to DL with groin injury

(3:51 pm ET) The Rangers placed catcher Geovany Soto on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin Tuesday, the team announced.

Soto was removed from Monday's game as a result of the injury, and goes back on the DL less than a week after he recovered from a knee injury. Soto has appeared in just three games this season, as he underwent surgery on his right knee just before the start of the season. 


Nick Martinez comes off DL for Tuesday start

(3:47 pm ET) The Rangers activated Nick Martinez from the disabled list as expected Tuesday, ahead of his start against the Yankees that evening.

Martinez has been out with an injury in his left side since early July. He has a 5.10 ERA and 1-6 record in 67 innings heading into Tuesday's action.   


Report: Giants interested in trading for Bartolo Colon

(3:43 pm ET) The Giants have expressed interest in trading for Mets starting pitcher Bartolo Colon, a source told ESPN. Colon, who will make his next start Wednesday at Seattle, is under contract through the 2015 season.

Josh Reddick returns from DL

(3:40 pm ET) Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick was activated from the disabled list as expected Tuesday, after recovering from a right knee strain.

Reddick has been out  since late June as a result of this injury, but makes his return after spending a few days on a minor-league rehab assignment. He was hitting .229/.296/.358 in 179 at-bats prior to the injury. 


Josh Beckett activated for Tuesday start

(3:37 pm ET) As expected, Dodgers starting pitcher Josh Beckett was activated off the 15-day disabled list prior to his start Tuesday against the Pirates. Beckett has been sidelined since July 6 because of a torn labrum and two cysts in his hip.

Dodgers still without Hanley Ramirez, Yasiel Puig

(3:34 pm ET) Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig and shortstop Hanley Ramirez were once again absent from the starting lineup Tuesday at Pittsburgh due to hand injuries. Puig was sidelined a third straight game, while Ramirez was out for a second straight day.

Esmil Rogers returning to Toronto

(3:33 pm ET) The Blue Jays purchased the contract of pitcher Esmil Rogers from Triple-A Buffalo Tuesday, two months after he was designated for assignment.

Rogers had a 6.97 ERA in 20 2/3 innings for the Blue Jays earlier in the season, befre he was taken off the 40-man roster.  


Homer Bailey shakes off knee injury to start Tuesday

(3:31 pm ET) As expected, Reds starting pitcher Homer Bailey made it into the starting lineup for Tuesday's game at Milwaukee after leaving his last start before the All-Star break July 10 because of a knee injury.

Bailey is 3-2 with a 3.21 ERA in his last eight starts. He has 49 strikeouts in 53 1/3 innings in that span.
