by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7:09 pm ET) Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is getting the night off Friday as he is held out of the lineup against the A's. He had started each of the last 14 games for the Yankees, going 11 for 45 with three home runs in that stretch.

Garrett Jones will get the rare start at first base and bat sixth on Friday. Teixeira will likely be back in the lineup on Saturday, as no injury has been reported.

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7:07 pm ET) With outfielder Slade Heathcott hitting the disabled list on Friday, Chris Young will get the start for the Yankees in center field and bat eighth against the A's. Young has seen a dip in playing time recently due to his struggles at the plate, as he has just one hit over his last 19 at-bats.

But Young should see a bit more playing time with the injury to Heathcott, and with Jacoby Ellsbury still out for a while.

(7:01 pm ET) Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Friday that starter Masahiro Tanaka will indeed start on Wednesday against the Mariners, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Tanaka will return to a 3.22 ERA when he officially rejoins the rotation.

It's official: Rangers set to start Alex Gonzalez on Saturday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(6:54 pm ET) What has been rumored is finally official - the Rangers have named Alex Gonzalez their Saturday starter against Boston, per MLB.com.

The righthander nicknamed "Chi Chi" has not overwhelmed batters at Triple-A Round Rock this season after an impressive run in the lower minors. He has just three quality starts in eight outings this season and owns a mediocre 4.15 ERA with just 26 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings.

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(6:50 pm ET) Rangers starter Ross Detwiler, who is currently on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation, will make his first rehab start on Saturday.

Detwiler is expected to go two innings in the start with Double-A Frisco, according to MLB.com. The team has not revealed an updated timetable for his return to the rotation.

Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera doesn't miss a beat, starts Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(6:43 pm ET) Despite being hit on the foot with a pitch on Thursday, Miguel Cabrera is in the starting lineup for the Tigers' contest with the Angels on Friday. Cabrera will indeed start at first base and bat third as usual.

Being his typical self, Cabrera is batting .314 (11 for 35) with two doubles, a triple and a home run over his last 10 games.

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Report: Free agent RP Rafael Soriano dumps agent
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(6:42 pm ET) Free agent reliever Rafael Soriano is leaving hard-core agent Scott Boras, a source familiar to the situation told the Washington Post. He is seeking a team for which to pitch.

Soriano has been linked to the Cubs and Mariners, though several teams could be looking for late-game relievers. He saved 39 games for the Nationals a year ago and 134 over the past three seasons for that team and the Yankees.
