Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki remains in the lineup Tuesday

(5:06 pm ET) Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki is still in the starting lineup Tuesday after taking a line drive off his foot, the team announced. Suzuki didn't have any swelling and said after the game Monday the ball hit the fleshy part of his foot and felt he would be able to play Tuesday.

Suzuki is hitting .182 with two home runs and four RBI in 33 at-bats this season.


Pirates SS Mercer reports ribs are feeling better

(5:05 pm ET) Jordy Mercer is not in the starting lineup for the Pirates on Tuesday, but he reports that his ribcage is improving, per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Mercer added that he would try to throw Tuesday.

Mercer sustained the injury on a hit-by-pitch Sunday, courtesy of Milwaukee pitcher Matt Garza.


Diamondbacks recall Danny Dorn, move Gerald Laird to 60-day DL

(5:04 pm ET) The Diamondbacks recalled infielder Danny Dorn from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday. They also moved catcher Gerald Laird (back) from the 15-day to the 60-day DL.

Dorn was hitting .474 (18 for 38) with one triple, two home runs, four doubles and eight RBI in 10 games for Reno.


White Sox OF Eaton admits he's pressing to justify contract

(4:59 pm ET) White Sox leadoff hitter Adam Eaton has admitted that the $24 million contract he signed during the offseason has played a role in his poor performance at the plate so far.

"I tried to do too much," he told MLB.com.

Eaton, who singled to help his team rally to victory in the ninth inning Monday night against Cleveland, has been hitless is seven of 12 games to start the year. He owns a slash line of .149/.216/.191.


Foot injury lands Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb on 15-day DL

(4:58 pm ET) Diamondbacks third baseman Jake Lamb was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday due to a left foot stress reaction, the team announced.

Lamb has started a team-high eight games at third base. Aaron Hill and Yasmany Tomas could see time at third base in Lamb's absence. Hill has started five times at third base and Tomas drew his first start at the hot corner Tuesday.

Lamb heads to the disabled list with a .414 average, one triple, one home run, three doubles and nine RBI in 10 games.


Twins' Kennys Vargas, Shane Robinson back in the lineup Tuesday

(4:53 pm ET) Twins designated hitter Kennys Vargas and center fielder Shane Robinson are back in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Royals, the team announced.

Vargas has started 11 of the Twins' 13 games this season at DH and is hitting .200 with one home run and three RBI in 40 at-bats. Robinson has made five starts in center and is hitting .368 with three RBI in 19 at-bats.

The Twins are currently the underdogs (+142) against Kansas City.


Nationals' Anthony Rendon might begin rehab assignment Friday

(4:41 pm ET) Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon (knee) played three innings at third base during an extended spring training game Tuesday, manager Matt Williams told reporters.

Rendon is scheduled for five innings Wednesday before resting Thursday. He then might begin a rehab assignment Friday.

Williams added Rendon could get some playing time on his rehab assignment at second base. However, he has only played third base thus far because it is less physically demanding.

Williams said Rendon told him Monday night that his knee is no longer bothering him.


Nationals' Craig Stammen will have 'extensive' recovery

(4:34 pm ET) Nationals pitcher Craig Stammen is "on the road to recovery" after Sunday's flexor tendon surgery, manager Matt Williams said on Tuesday. 

Williams said the surgery was a success, and the timetable for his recovery has not yet been determined, per the Washington Times. Williams said it would be "extensive". 


Drew Smyly 'definitely' ready, Rays yet to decide on Friday start

(4:31 pm ET) Rays pitcher Drew Smyly said Tuesday he's "definitely" ready to make his season debut, but the Rays have yet to decide whether he'll pitch Friday against the Blue Jays, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Smyly threw 70 pitches while racking up 3 2/3 scoreless innings in his most recent rehab outing Sunday as he continues his return from shoulder tendinitis. If the team decides he's not quite ready to return, Smyly would make one more rehab start before likely making his debut next week.


Blue Jays' Michael Saunders expected to join team this weekend

(4:20 pm ET) Blue Jays right fielder Michael Saunders is expected to join the team in Tampa Bay this weekend, according to manager John Gibbons per SportsNet.

Saunders, who is currently on the 15-day DL with a knee injury, is not expected to head to Triple-A for a secondary rehab assignment. He is currently on assignment with the team's Class-A affiliate.
