Abraham Almonte remains sidelined Tuesday

(6:19 pm ET) Padres outfielder Abraham Almonte is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies.

Almonte hasn't started since last Wednesday as he continues to deal with the affereffects of an ankle sprain. He has hit .230/.275/.333 with three home runs and 15 RBI in 204 at-bats.


Astros announce rotation plans for final series

(6:17 pm ET) The Astros named the team's probable starters for the final series of the season this weekend against the Mets, MLB.com reports.

Brad Peacock will get the start Friday as expected, while Samuel Deduno is slated to take the mound Saturday. Nick Tropeano has been tabbed to make the team's final start Sunday.


Jurickson Profar to be shut down for 2-3 months

(6:13 pm ET) Rangers infielder Jurickson Profar is expected to be shut down for two-to-three months, FOXSportsSouthwest.com reports.

Profar has been sidelined the entire season due to shoulder injuries, and he's expected to visit with multiple doctors this offseason in an attempt to get healed up before the beginning of the 2015 season.


Blue Jays set rotation plans, send Marcus Stroman to bullpen

(6:06 pm ET) The Red Sox scratched infielders Xander Bogaerts and Will Middlebrooks from the starting lineup Tuesday. Bogaerts is still dealing with neck stiffness, while Middlebrooks has a sprained right hand, the Boston Herald reports.

Jenrry Mejia to undergo sports hernia surgery next week

(6:02 pm ET) Mets closer Jenrry Mejia is scheduled to undergo sports hernia surgery on Oct. 2, ESPNNewYork.com reports.

Mejia has pitched with the injury through the second half of the season, and he should remain available over the final week before having the procedure. He owns a 3.77 ERA and 94:40 K:BB ratio in 90 2/3 innings along with 27 saves.


Steve Pearce's return pushed back to Thursday

(5:56 pm ET) Orioles outfielder Steve Pearce will take batting practice Wednesday before potentially returning to the lineup Thursday, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Pearce, who has been recovering from a wrist injury, had been aiming for a Wednesday return. He has hit .297/.376/.557 with 20 home runs and 48 RBI in 327 at-bats.


Jonathan Papelbon returns from suspension

(5:52 pm ET) Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon returns from a seven-game suspension Tuesday, and he'll immediately slide back into a ninth-inning role, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

"He’s our closer right now, as we speak," manager Ryne Sandberg said.

Papelbon was ejected after making an obsence gesture to the crowd upon blowing a three-run lead in his last outing. The league later slapped him with a seven-game suspension. Papelbon owns a 2.10 ERA and 61:15 K:BB ratio in 64 1/3 innings to go with 37 saves.


Mike Minor shut down, David Hale to start Thursday

(5:48 pm ET) The Braves will skip Mike Minor this week and shut the pitcher down with shoulder inflammation, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

David Hale will fill Minor's spot Thursday against the Pirates. Minor was removed from his last start Saturday after just one inning with the shoulder issue. He finishes the season with a 4.77 ERA and 120:44 K:BB ratio in 145 1/3 innings.


Steven Wright named Friday starter

(5:44 pm ET) Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright will start the opener of the final series of the season Friday when the Yankees come to town, WEEI.com reports.

Wright was likely to earn the nod after the team shuffled the rotation Sunday, but the Red Sox made it official Tuesday. He owns a 3.38 ERA and 18:2 K:BB ratio in 16 innings over five relief outings.
