by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(9:35 pm ET) Marlins pitcher David Phelps allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings of work in Miami's 4-2 loss to the Priates on Monday.

Phelps had issues in the second inning when with one out, he allowed three straight hits, including a three-run home run to Francisco Cervelli. Phelps then allowed a solo home run to Pedro Alvarez in the sixth inning.

Phelps, now 2-2, moved his ERA to 3.56 in 48 innings of work. He will look to bounce back on Sunday against the Mets.

Pirates pitcher Charlie Morton returns to rotation with win Monday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(9:34 pm ET) Pirates pitcher Charlie Morton allowed two runs on eight hits in seven innings of work in his season debut for Pittsburgh on Monday. Morton added three strikeouts and no walks in Pittsburgh's 4-2 win over the Marlins on Monday.

Morton had just two blemishes on his day. In the first, after allowing a leadoff single to Dee Gordon, he stole second and later scored on a Giancarlo Stanton single. Then in the third, Stanton blasted a solo home run.

Morton, now 1-0, begins his year with a 2.57 ERA. He will look to keep things rolling on Saturday against the Padres.

Rangers OF Josh Hamilton goes hitless in season debut
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(9:26 pm ET) In his 2015 season debut, Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton went 0 for 3 and drew a walk in his team's 10-8 victory over the Indians. He scored a run when Elvis Andrus hit a two-run double in the third inning.

Hamilton has been sidelined due to a shoulder injury thus far through the season.

Though he didn't record a hit, it marked the return of Hamilton to the team he enjoyed the best years of his career with.

Diamondbacks' Yasmany Tomas has another three-hit game
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(9:21 pm ET) Red-hot Diamondbacks third baseman Yasmany Tomas went 3 for 5 in Monday's extra-innings loss to St. Louis.

Pirates' Starling Marte an unlikely option to hit cleanup
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(9:19 pm ET) Starling Marte isn't your prototypical cleanup hitter.

Sure, he can produce runs for the Pirates but he's not exactly someone that's going to come to the plate with the intention of hitting a bomb with runners on. But it's his versatility that caused manager Clint Hurdle to try Marte out at the four hole.

He laid down a bunt on Sunday against the Mets, although he was unable to beat it out. But then later in the game he hit a three-run homer.

"He wasn't as warm and fuzzy about it as I was. And rightfully so," Hurdle said about slotting Marte fourth in the lineup, via MLB.com. "He's a young guy. He's got some experience. He did some good things [batting fifth], and then your whacked-out manager says, 'Hey, by the way, let's just try this. Let's throw you in the four-spot, kid, and let's roll.' I told him why.

Diamondbacks' Mark Trumbo homers to end power drought
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(9:17 pm ET) Diamondbacks right fielder Mark Trumbo hit a two-run home run to tie Monday's game against St. Louis and eventually send it to extra innings.

The blast ended an 10-game homerless stretch for Trumbo. He also hadn't driven in a run over that span.

Trumbo went 1 for 5, recording his seventh homer and 21st RBI.
