Report: No offers brewing involving Cole Hamels

(10:58 pm ET) The Phillies haven't received a trade offer including pitcher Cole Hamels, nor have they yet to make any specific requests, FOXSports.com reports.

While Hamels is theoretically available should a contender bowl the Phillies over with an offer, he remains unlikely to be dealt before the deadline. He owns a 2.55 ERA and 133:39 K:BB ratio in 130 1/3 innings after a dominant outing Tuesday.


Report: Mariners, Twins discussing Josh Willingham

(10:56 pm ET) The Mariners are in discussions with the Twins to potentially acquire outfielder Josh Willingham, FOXSports.com reports.

The Mariners are looking to add some right-handed pop to their lefty-dominated lineup, even after picking up the switch-hitting Kendrys Morales. Willingham entered play Tuesday with a .219/.361/.421 line and 10 home runs in 183 at-bats.


Ed Lucas joining Marlins Wednesday

Marlins send Jake Marisnick back to Triple-A

(10:38 pm ET) The Marlins optioned outfielder Jake Marisnick to Triple-A New Orleans after Tuesday's win.

Marisnick was recalled from New Orleans Monday and ended up recording an out in his only at-bat before being sent back down. He's 8 for 48 with five stolen bases in 14 games with the Marlins.


Jason Vargas could return to rotation this weekend

(10:36 pm ET) Royals pitcher Jason Vargas may rejoin the rotation Saturday and face the A's, MLB.com reports.

Vargas has been sidelined since July 8 while recovering from an appendectomy. He threw 60 pitches in four innings during a simulated game Tuesday and said the session went well. Vargas owns a 3.31 ERA and 82:29 K:BB ratio in 125 innings.


Fernando Rodney delivers 29th save Tuesday

(10:33 pm ET) Mariners closer Fernando Rodney picked up his 29th save Tuesday, giving up one hit and striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning to close out his team's 5-2 win over the Indians.

Rodney has bounced back from giving up two runs in a blown save on July 20, tossing four scoreless innings and only surrendering one hit and one walk in his last four outings. He owns a 2.11 ERA and 48:17 K:BB ratio in 42 2/3 innings.


Steve Cishek earns 27th save

(10:30 pm ET) Marlins closer Steve Cishek picked up his 27th save Tuesday, giving up two hits and striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning to close out his team's 3-0 win over the Nationals.

Cishek has successfully converted seven straight save opportunities since giving up three runs in a no-out loss on July 9. He owns a 3.30 ERA and 57:14 K:BB ratio in 46 1/3 innings.


Anibal Sanchez gives up five runs in loss vs. White Sox

(10:28 pm ET) Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez took a loss Tuesday, giving up five earned runs on six hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings and striking out six in his team's 11-4 defeat against the White Sox.

Sanchez (7-5) took a 2-2 tie into the seventh inning before the White Sox offense came alive, scoring seven runs in all, with three charged to the starter. He continues to endure a rough July, giving up 22 earned runs in 38 1/3 innings. Sanchez owns a 3.65 ERA and 87:29 K:BB ratio in 113 1/3 innings. He's scheduled to square off with the Rockies Sunday.


Jose Quintana surrenders two runs in win vs. Tigers

(10:28 pm ET) White Sox pitcher Jose Quintana picked up a win Tuesday, giving up two earned runs on nine hits and two walks in six innings and striking out two in his team's 11-4 victory over the Tigers.

Quintana (6-7) was picked up by the offense in a seven-run seventh inning to put him in line for his first win in five July starts. He's given up a total of 11 earned runs over his last eight outings, lasting seven innings six times during that stretch. Quintana owns a 3.15 ERA and 120:40 K:BB ratio in 137 1/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Twins Sunday.


Jon Lester scratched Wednesday, Brandon Workman to start

(10:27 pm ET) Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester has been scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start, the Springfield Republican reports.

Lester's name has been involved in trade talks as the deadline nears, and the Red Sox have decided to hold him out Wednesday, which will avoid the chance he's injured while also leave him available to pitch for a new team if he is traded. Brandon Workman will take Lester's scheduled start Wednesday.
