Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen sore, but Saturday start still set
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12:15 pm ET) Orioles left-hander Wei-Yin Chen is dealing with some soreness, but has not been scratched from his Saturday start against visiting Tampa Bay, per MASNsports.com.

Chen has struggled in his last two outings in raising his ERA from 2.53 to 3.13. He has worked his way out of jams, but has allowed seven runs on 19 hits in his last 12 innings. His saving grace has been control - he has not walked a batter during that stretch.

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(12:08 pm ET) The Cardinals optioned pitcher Miguel Socolovich to Triple-A Memphis, the team announced on Thursday. The right-hander was originally called up at the beginning of May, and pitched well for the Cardinals.

Socolovich made seven appearances, earning a victory in the firs two. Overall, he pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing just one earned run and five hits. He recorded eight strikeouts and just one walk. He'll likely get another shot in the big leagues before too long.

The team has not announced a corresponding move to replace him on the 25-man roster.

Rangers' Banister trying to find at-bats for Delino DeShields
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12:03 pm ET) Rangers outfielder Delino DeShields has been bouncing between center and left field the last few weeks, but now that Josh Hamilton is starting in left field, the team has to get creative in ways to keep DeShields in the lineup.

Although, the Rangers gave a glimpse of their potential plans Wednesday against the Indians, as DeShields played the final three innings at second base after starting in center field.

"I can see him getting enough at-bats to keep him engaged in that leadoff spot for us," manager Jeff Banister told MLB Network Radio on Tuursday. "It was nice to see him at second base."

DeShieds is batting .316 with a .418 on-base percentage and .857 OPS in his last 17 games.

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:59 am ET) Orioles pitcher Kevin Gausman is expected to make a couple of starts with Triple-A Norfolk in the coming weeks. Gausman, who is on the disabled list with shoulder tendinitis, will start on June 6 and June 11 with Norfolk.

These will not be rehab starts, as the Orioles plan to option him to Triple-A, according to MASNSports.com. Gausman will throw three innings or 45 pitches on June 6, and then four innings on the 11th.

Gausman has been out of action since the beginning of May with the shoulder injury. The team has not indicated when they expect him to rejoin the team.

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11:48 am ET) White Sox manager Robin Ventura indicated closer David Robertson will likely won't be used in Thursday's doubleheader against the Orioles.

Robertson suffered his second blown save in as many games Wednesday at Toronto. He has a 6.23 ERA and three blown saves in his last eight appearances after having a 0.00 ERA and no blown saves in his first 12 outings.

Rangers OF Josh Hamilton gets first hit of 2015
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:46 am ET) Rangers left fielder Josh Hamilton recorded his first hit of the season in Wednesday's loss to the Indians. It was a simple single for the veteran, but after a rough offseason, manager Jeff Banister says Hamilton is feeling good.

"The smile on his face, the energy he shows up at the ballpark with, and the in game has been special," Banister told MLB Network Radio.

"Right now his body feels better when he just keeps going out there, so we stay in direct contact with how he is feeling."

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11:43 am ET) White Sox third baseman Conor Gillaspie did not start in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Orioles due to a lingering foot injury. It was the fourth straight game he missed.

However, manager Robin Ventura indicated he expects Gillaspie to start the second game of Thursday's doubleheader.

Gillaspie has a .300/.345/.500/.845 slash line in 16 May games. He also has one triple, two doubles, two home runs and six RBI.

Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman still stuck in slump at the plate
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:27 am ET) Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman's struggles continued on Wednesday. Zimmerman was held hitless for the third straight game, as the Nationals beat the Cubs 3-0.

Zimmerman hasn't scored a run since May 19. Over his last 10 contests, Zimmerman is hitting just .147 (5 for 35), though he does have a home run in that span. He has started every game for the Nationals this season, so a day off in the near future could do him well.

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:20 am ET) Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond went 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles in Wednesday's 3-0 victory over the Cubs. The three-hit performance pushes his current hitting streak up to 12 games.

During the 12-game streak, Desmond is batting .347 (17 for 49) with six doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. After getting off to a rather slow start, the hitting streak has lifted his season batting average up from .225 to .257.
