A's SP Sonny Gray out of hospital, status for next start is TBD

(12:58 pm ET) Athletics starting pitcher Sonny Gray was released from the hospital Wednesday after he was admitted Monday evening due to a severe case of bacterial gastroenteritis, according to MLB.com. 

Gray is expected to be back in the Oakland clubhouse Thursday. Although, manager Bob Melvin isn't sure yet if Gray will make his next scheduled start Sunday against the Mariners.

"He's getting much better, no fever," A's team physician Allan Pont said. "He's rounding into shape."

Chris Bassitt would start in Gray's absence again, if he can't start Sunday.


Report: Astros to call up Alex Presley

(12:43 pm ET) The Astros are on the verge of promoting outfielder Alex Presley from the minor leagues, a source told MLB.com.

Presley hit .244 with six home runs and 19 RBI in 89 games for the Astros last season.


Mariners reinstate Julio Morban, send him to Double-A

(12:12 pm ET) The Mariners reinstated outfielder Julio Morban from the restricted list Wednesday and then sent him to their Double-A affiliate, reports 710 AM ESPN Seattle.

He was placed on the restricted list in May. Morban has never appeared in an MLB game.


Twins officially promote Miguel Sano to major-league roster

(12:05 pm ET) The Twins announced Thursday third base prospect Miguel Sano was called up from Double-A Chattanooga. He will be available for Thursday's game against the Royals and will wear No. 22.

Sano has been considered a top-100 prospect by Baseball America since 2010, making it as high as No. 6 in 2014. MLB.com has had Sano among the top 100 prospects since 2012, ranking him as high as No. 4 in '14. Coming into 2015, Baseball America had Sano ranked 13th, while MLB.com had him ranked 11th.

The 22-year-old prospect, who missed the 2014 season due to Tommy John surgery, has a career .278/.373/.564/.937 slash line in 445 games in the minors. He has totaled 105 home runs.


Rangers OF Ryan Rua has two HRs since DL activation

(11:57 am ET) Rangers outfielder Ryan Rua homered during a 4-2 loss to the Orioles on Wednesday. He connected for a solo home run off Wei-Yin Chen in the fourth inning.

Rua has homered twice in his last six games. However, he still doesn't have a multihit game since coming off the disabled list in mid-June. Rua is batting .167 (5 for 30) with one double, two RBI, three runs and 10 strikeouts since his activation.


Astros 1B Chris Carter homers for third time in last five games

(11:49 am ET) Astros first baseman Chris Carter homered for the third time in five games during a 6-5 win Wednesday against the Royals. 

Carter got the Astros on the board with a solo home run off Edinson Volquez in the fourth inning. He added an RBI on a fielder's choice in the seventh inning.

Since June 3, Carter is batting .200 (18 for 90) with a .511 slugging percentage, .841 OPS, seven doubles, seven home runs, 13 RBI, 15 runs, 14 walks, 35 strikeouts and one stolen base in his last 27 games.


Astros 2B Marwin Gonzalez hits home run Wednesday

(11:42 am ET) Astros second baseman Marwin Gonzalez hit his fifth home run of the season during Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Royals.

The solo shot was his only hit in four at-bats during the contest. Over his last seven games, Gonzalez is hitting .250 with one home run and one RBI.


Yankees' Garrett Jones homers during 3-1 win Wednesday

(11:39 am ET) Yankees first baseman/outfielder Garrett Jones homered during a 3-1 win Wednesday against the Angels. He hit a solo home run off Matt Shoemaker in the sixth inning, giving New York a 2-0 lead.

Since June 1, Jones is batting .231 (12 for 52) with one double, four home runs, 10 RBI, six runs, four walks and 10 strikeouts in his last 21 games (11 starts). He has five home runs this season.


Braves catcher A.J. Pierzynski collects two RBI Wednesday

(11:37 am ET) Braves catcher A.J. Pierzynski hit his fifth home run of the season during Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Nationals.

The two-run shot was his only hit in four at-bats during the game. Over his last eight games, Pierzynski is hitting .303 with one home run and two RBI.


Orioles' Jimmy Paredes slugging .623 in last 17 games

(11:32 am ET) Orioles infielder/outfielder Jimmy Paredes homered among two hits Wednesday against the Rangers. He had a solo home run off Nick Martinez in the fourth inning and an RBI groundout off Martinez in the sixth.

Pareded, who has 10 home runs, has homered four times in his last 17 games (14 starts). He is batting .377 with a .623 slugging percentage, 1.023 OPS, three doubles, 13 RBI, 12 runs, three walks and 15 strikeouts in that span.
