Tommy Medica notches career-high four hits in win over Braves

(12:02 am ET) Padres first baseman Tommy Medica notched a career-high four hits in Friday's win over the Braves in Atlanta.

Medica singled in a run in the first, and singled in the third, fifth and seventh innings, respectively. He finished 4 for 5 with an RBI in a 5-2 win. He owns a .261/.301/.433 slash line with four homers and 16 RBI in 134 at-bats.

Ubaldo Jimenez to begin rehab next week

(12:00 am ET) Orioles pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez is set to begin a rehab assignment next week, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Jimenez tossed a two-inning simulated game Friday. As long as he feels good Saturday, he'll begin a rehab assignment. Manager Buck Showalter said Jimenez will likely need two starts before he's ready to return to the majors. Jimenez is working his way back from an ankle injury, but said it didn't give him any issues Friday. "I didn’t have any problems with my ankle," Jimenez said. "I didn’t have to think about it."


Aaron Crow nets his second save Friday

(7/25/2014) Royals pitcher Aaron Crow picked up his second save Friday against the Indians. 

Crow entered the game with a two-run lead. After giving up a leadoff double, Crow settled in. He forced a foulout and two groundouts to finish the game. Crow gave up one hit over his inning of work.


Hector Sanchez exits game after taking foul ball off the mask

(7/25/2014) Giants backup catcher Hector Sanchez was forced out of Friday's game against the Dodgers after taking a foul ball off the mask in the top of the fourth inning. He was replaced by Buster Posey.

Sanchez owns a .196/.237/.301 slash line with three homers and 163 at-bats. His status remains uncertain for Saturday's clash with the Dodgers.

Brett Anderson picks up first win Friday

(7/25/2014) Rockies starter Brett Anderson picked up his first win of the season Friday against the Pirates.

Anderson tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings during the start. He allowed just two hits. Anderson struck out one and walked four. Anderson did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. Neil Walker singled to open the inning, ending his bid for a no-hitter. Andrew McCutchen would provide the second hit against Anderson in the following frame. Anderson came out for the seventh inning, but was pulled after walking a batter. He threw 102 pitches.

With the win, Anderson improved to 1-3. His next start will come against the Cubs.


Yonder Alonso to return Saturday, Jake Goebbert heading back down

(7/25/2014) Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso is expected to be activated from the disabled list Saturday, according to U-T San Diego. Alonso has been sidelined since mid-June with a hand injury. The team will option Jake Goebbert to Triple-A El Paso prior to the game in Atlanta.

Charlie Morton can't grab a quality start Friday

(7/25/2014) Pirates pitcher Charlie Morton couldn’t pick up a quality start Friday against the Rockies.

Morton allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings. He struck out three and walked one during the outing. Morton was solid throughout most of the game. Other than a run-scoring double in the third inning, Morton has solid until his final inning of work. Morton came in to pitch in the seventh inning, and immediately ran into trouble. He allowed two doubles to open the frame, and followed that up with a single. At that point, Morton was pulled from the game. After he left, both of his inherited runners came around to score. 

With the loss, Morton dropped to 5-10 on the year. His next start will come against the Giants.


Tyler Pastornicky sent back to Triple-A

(7/25/2014) The Braves optioned infielder Tyler Pastornicky to Triple-A Gwinnett following Friday's loss to San Diego. Pastornicky hit .200 (8 for 40) with two RBI in the majors.

Josh Hamilton exits game with knee soreness

(7/25/2014) Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton was forced out of Friday's game at home against the Tigers with a sore left knee. Hamilton left the game in the fourth inning and has been listed as day to day moving forward. He owns a .291/.366/.427 slash line with five homers and 29 RBI in 206 at-bats.

Neftali Feliz picks up his first save

(7/25/2014) Rangers reliever Neftali Feliz picked up his first save Friday against the Athletics. 

Feliz entered the game with a three-run lead in the ninth inning. He made things interesting, giving up a single and a walk. Feliz was able to work out of the jam, getting the final two outs without giving out a run.

It was Feliz's first save since 2011.
