Adam Jones smacks 21st home run Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:54 pm ET) Orioles outfielder Adam Jones went 2 for 4 with a two-run home run in his team's 4-3 win over the Angels Wednesday.

Jones delivered his blast in the first inning, and the Orioles were able to tack on two more runs in the fourth before hanging on for the win. He has hit home runs in back-to-back games and now owns a .294/.321/.498 line with 21 home runs and 67 RBI in 432 at-bats.

Zach Britton delivers 21st save Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:52 pm ET) Orioles closer Zach Britton earned his 21st save Wednesday, giving up one hit and striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning to finish off his team's 4-3 win over the Angels.

Britton has seen a lot of action since the All-Star break, making eight appearances in the last 13 days. While he was rocked in his first post-break outing (three runs, no outs), he's been excellent since, giving up just two hits and no walks in 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Britton owns a 1.65 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 48:14 K:BB ratio in 54 2/3 innings.

Garrett Richards allows four runs in loss vs. Orioles
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:49 pm ET) Angels pitcher Garrett Richards was hung with a loss Wednesday, surrendering four earned runs on six hits in seven innings and striking out four in his team's 4-3 defeat against the Orioles.

Richards (11-4) gave up a two-run home run in the first inning and another pair of runs in the fourth to post his second straight start with four runs allowed. He hadn't given up more than three runs in an outing in his previous nine starts before his recent two-game stretch. Richards owns a 2.74 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 143:46 K:BB ratio in 144 1/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Dodgers Monday.

Kevin Gausman gives up three runs in win vs. Angels
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:48 pm ET) Orioles pitcher Kevin Gausman picked up a win Wednesday, giving up three earned runs on three hits and three walks in seven innings and striking out two in his team's 4-3 victory over the Angels.

Gausman (5-3) was perfect through 4 2/3 innings before walking three straight batters and giving up two hits to allow all three of his runs. He faced the minimum in his final two innings while giving up one hit. Gausman owns a 3.70 ERA and 37:21 K:BB ratio in 56 innings. He's scheduled to face the Nationals Monday.

Giants release Dan Uggla, Tyler Colvin
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:43 pm ET) The Giants released second baseman Dan Uggla and Tyler Colvin after Wednesday's win over the Pirates, MLB.com reports.

The team could be on the verge of making a deal or two before Thursday's deadline, and they have been linked to potential second-base upgrades. The team also expects to activate three players from the disabled list during the upcoming road trip.

Alex Rios hit by pitch, exits game Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:40 pm ET) Rangers outfielder Alex Rios was removed from Wednesday's game after being hit in the left quadriceps muscle by a pitch, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Rios' name has come up in trade rumors this month, and it's possible the team doesn't want to risk further injury by having him play after getting plunked. He has hit .304/.335/.430 with four home runs, 43 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 395 at-bats.

Yankees, Phillies have discussed Marlon Byrd
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:38 pm ET) The Yankees and Phillies have discussed a trade involving outfielder Marlon Byrd, though no deal is close, CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman reports.

Byrd is due $8 million next season, which may be a deterrent for the Yankees. There may be some doubt of whether he has the right personality to fit on the roster as well. Byrd has hit .273/.321/.482 with 20 home runs and 60 RBI in 411 at-bats.

Corey Kluber throws 85 pitches in complete-game shutout
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:21 pm ET) Indians pitcher Corey Kluber was dominant Wednesday, needing just 85 pitches to turn in a complete-game shutout in his team's 2-0 win over the Mariners.

Kluber (11-6) gave up just three hits in his nine scoreless innings, striking out eight and walking none. It's his second straight start going nine innings and not giving up an earned run, though he did surrender an unearned run in a no-decision his last time out. Kluber owns a 2.61 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 170:33 K:BB ratio in 158 1/3 innings. He's scheduled to take on the Reds Monday.

Felix Hernandez sets MLB record in loss Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:19 pm ET) Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez was hung with a loss Wednesday, giving up two earned runs on four hits and two walks in seven innings and striking out five in his team's 2-0 defeat against the Indians.

Hernandez (11-3) set a major-league record Wednesday, posting his 14th straight start of at least seven innings with two runs or fewer allowed, according to the team. Unfortunately, he has just one win to show for his last five quality starts as the team has failed to back him offensively. Hernandez owns a 2.01 ERA and 178:31 K:BB ratio in 165 1/3 innings. He'll take on the Braves Tuesday.

Jose Berrios could make next start despite shoulder issue
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:15 pm ET) Twins pitching prospect Jose Berrios may not miss a start after coming out of Tuesday's game with shoulder tightness, MLB.com reports.

Berrios was removed for precautionary reasons, and the team still seems likely to skip him in the Double-A rotation if he is still feeling the aftereffects of the tightness in a few days. He owns a 4.58 ERA and 13:6 K:BB ratio with New Britian after an excellent stretch at high Class A Fort Myers.
