Cardinals OF Matt Holliday doesn't have time frame for return

(1:40 am ET) Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday thinks he will be back on the field "soon" from his quad injury, but stated that there is not a specific time frame for his return, according to MLB.com.

"It's one of those deals [where] you know when you know, and right now I don't have any idea," Holliday said.

Holliday landed on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday with a Grade 2 quad strain.

"I want to play as soon as I can play," Holliday said. "My leg will dictate when that is. Whenever I am able to run and play at a decent clip, I'll play."


Rays option OF Mikie Mahtook back to Triple-A Durham

Angels CF Mike Trout enjoys three hit, three RBI performance

(1:30 am ET) Angels center fielder Mike Trout went 3 for 4 with a triple, a home run and three RBI in Friday's loss to the Dodgers.

Over his last six games, Trout is hitting .521 with 12 hits, four home runs and 10 RBI.


Angels SP Hector Santiago gets rocked for five runs in loss

(1:21 am ET) Angels starting pitcher Hector Santiago gave up five runs on nine hits in a loss to the Dodgers on Friday.

Santiago gave up two home runs in the loss. He drops to 7-5 on the season with a 2.70 ERA.


Dodgers closer Kenley Jensen struggles to pick up 18th save

(1:15 am ET) Dodgers closer Kenley Jensen didn't have his best outing of the season on Friday against the Angels, but he still managed to put the game away and earn his 18th save of the year.

Jensen allowed a solo home run to Mike Trout in the ninth inning to make the game closer, but quickly erased any lingering hopes the Angels had of a comeback.

Jensen now has a 2.81 ERA this season.


Dodgers SP Zack Greinke flashes dominance again in win

(1:13 am ET) Dodgers starting pitcher Zack Greinke continued to show why he is one of the best -- if not the best -- pitchers in baseball with his outing on Friday.

Greinke tossed eight dominant innings, allowed two runs on five hits and struck out a cool eight batters. Over his last eight starts, he has 53 strikeouts and eight walks.

Greinke improved to 10-2 on the season with the win, but it wasn't all great as his ERA did rise to a still other-worldly 1.41 on the year.


Athletics SP Kendall Graveman strikes out six in no-decision

(1:08 am ET) Athletics starting pitcher Kendall Graveman struck out six batters in a no-decision on Friday against the Indians.

Graveman (6-7) gave up one run on five hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. He walked two batters, but his command was crisp throughout the game.

Graveman now has a 3.84 ERA this year.


Indians closer Cody Allen notches 21st save of the season

(1:04 am ET) Indians closer Cody Allen picked up his 21st save of the season on Friday against the Athletics.

Allen worked the ninth inning with ease, getting three consecutive outs on ground outs to second base.

Allen now has a 3.48 ERA in 40 1/3 innings of relief this season.


Diamondbacks' Paul Goldschmidt hits in 12th straight

(1:02 am ET) Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt went 2 for 4 in Friday's win over Houston.

Goldschmidt singled twice and walked once. He extended his hitting streak to 12 straight, the longest current streak in the National League. He's hitting .436 over the streak. 


Indians SP Danny Salazar tosses gem, picks up ninth win

(12:57 am ET) Indians starting pitcher Danny Salazar had one of his best outings of the season on Friday against the Athletics.

Salazar allowed just one run on one hit over eight dominant innings of work. He struck out four batters while allowing just one walk en route to his ninth win of the season.

Salazar (9-6) now has a 3.47 ERA this season.
