Riding six-game hit streak, Cubs C Miguel Montero sits Tuesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(4:26 pm ET) Cubs catcher Miguel Montero, who had started three straight behind the dish, was given the night off on Tuesday against the Cardinals. Montero has been heating up lately, as he is riding a six-game hitting streak heading into Tuesday's game. But manager Joe Maddon will opt to give him a rest with left-hander Tyler Lyons on the mound for St. Louis.

Welington Castillo , who hasn't played since April 28, was starting behind the dish on Tuesday.

Phillies may give Chase Utley Wednesday off too
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(4:26 pm ET) Phillies second baseman Chase Utley was not in Tuesday's starting lineup, and manager Ryne Sandberg said that there was a "pretty good possibility" Utley would give Wednesday off too, per The News Journal

With an off day scheduled for Thursday, that would give Utley a three-day break, as the Phillies try to help him snap a season-opening slump. Utley is hitting just .103, with more strikeouts (14) than hits (9) in 87 at bats.

"You really feel for the guy with everything he puts into it," Sandberg said.

Reds' Devin Mesoraco (hip) likely to get surgery at some point
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4:22 pm ET) Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco acknowledged Tuesday that his hip injury will likely require surgery to correct, but he's trying all possible treatments first, MLB.com reports.

Mesoraco would be on the shelf for four months if he undergoes surgery, and it appears he's resigned to eventually having the procedure, though he'll continue to see limited action while playing through the issue for now. He could return to the starting lineup this weekend as the team's designated hitter for a series in an American League park.

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(4:21 pm ET) Cubs right fielder Jorge Soler returned to the starting lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Cardinals. Soler was hitting in the cleanup spot for the first time this season, as manager Joe Maddon did some juggling in his batting order.

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(4:21 pm ET) The Rangers reshuffled their lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros, slotting Carlos Corporan at catcher, Carlos Peguero in left field, Delino DeShields in center and Rougned Odor at second base, according to MLB.com.

All four were out of the lineup Monday. DeShields replaces Leonys Martin in center after Martin suffered a sprained left wrist trying to make a diving catch. The Rangers are currently the underdogs (+145) against Houston.
