Angels activate RP Mike Morin from 15-day DL
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3:20 pm ET) The Angels activated reliever Mike Morin off the 15-day disabled list Wednesday. He has been sidelined since late May due to an oblique injury.

Morin spent four games on a rehab assignment between the Rookie League and Triple-A Salt Lake. He went 1-0 with one save and a 9.82 ERA. He had three scoreless outings to begin his rehab assignment before allowing four runs in his final appearance for Salt Lake.

Mets LF Michael Cuddyer sits with knee soreness on Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(3:20 pm ET) Mets left fielder Michael Cuddyer is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. Cuddyer exited Tuesday's game with knee soreness, so it's of little surprise that he is on the bench for Wednesday's tilt.

John Mayberry will get the start in left field and bat fifth. The team has not declared if Cuddyer could be available off the bench.

Indians SS Francisco Lindor rests amid 1-for-15 slump
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3:14 pm ET) Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor received his first day off Wednesday against the Rays since entering the starting lineup June 16. Mike Aviles stepped in at shortstop in place of Lindor, who made his MLB debut on June 14.

Lindor is mired in a 1-for-15 slump in his last four games, dropping his average to .211 in 15 games. He has one double, one home run and five RBI.

Twins' Shane Robinson leaves Wednesday's game after HBP
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(3:07 pm ET) Twins outfielder Shane Robinson exited Wednesday's game in the sixth inning with a left elbow contusion. Robinson was hit by a pitch in the top of the fifth inning, and was able to stay in the game for a bit. But he was lifted for a defensive replacement in the bottom of the sixth.

The team has not provided any further details on Robinson's status, and his availability for Thursday's game in Kansas City is in question.

Rangers' Josh Hamilton not starting on Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(3:01 pm ET) One day after returning from the disabled list, Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton is out of the lineup on Wednesday against the Orioles. Hamilton played on Tuesday for the first time since landing on the DL in early June.

But he'll get the day off on Wednesday. No injury has been reported, so with a left-hander on the mound for the Orioles, it sounds like it could just be a day off for Hamilton. Ryan Rua is getting the start in left field and batting sixth on Wednesday.

Brewers SS Jean Segura gets day off amid 15-game hitting slump
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2:58 pm ET) Brewers shortstop Jean Segura was held out of the starting lineup Wednesday against the Phillies. It was the first time in 15 games he did not start and just the second time since coming off the disabled list May 29.

Segura is hitless in his last three games (14 at-bats). He is batting just .119 in his last 15 games, which has dropped his season average from .289 to .249.

Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy rests for first time in 10 games
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2:51 pm ET) Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy was held out of the starting lineup Wednesday against the Phillies. It was the first time in 10 games he did not start and just the third time since coming off the disabled list June 1.

Since returning from the DL, Lucroy is batting .278 with a .352 slugging percentage and .671 OPS in 27 games. He has one home run, five doubles, 13 RBI, 11 runs, seven walks and 15 strikeouts.

Rays' Joey Butler gets back into the lineup on Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(2:45 pm ET) Joey Butler is back in the lineup for the Rays, as he will be in left field and bat second on Wednesday against the Indians. Butler had been held out of the lineup for the last three games in favor of recent-acquisition Grady Sizemore.

But Butler will be back in there on Wednesday. Prior to the three game absence, Butler had started nine straight, hitting .250 with a pair of home runs in that span.

A's SP Sonny Gray dealing with bacterial illness
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(2:26 pm ET) Athletics starter Sonny Gray was diagnosed with bacterial gastroenteritis, and is still in the hospital. However, the right-hander is said to be feeling better and could be released later on Thursday or Friday, according to the Bay Area News Group.

It is still unknown if Gray will be able to make his next start on Sunday, as his expected return to the team is currently unknown.

Jordan Zimmermann's success tied to effectiveness of curveball
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1:44 pm ET) Nationals starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann has been outstanding in his last two starts, tossing 15 2/3 scoreless innings. He has struck out nine and not issued a walk in that span.

"I had a good curveball the last two starts and felt like I could throw it when I wanted to, where I wanted to, any count," Zimmermann told reporters, per MASNsports.com. "Keep them off balance, just pound the zone, let those guys behind me play defense."

Manager Matt Williams said having solid command of his offspeed pitches has allowed Zimmermann's fastball to be more effective.

"The ability to throw a breaking ball behind in the count, early in the count," Williams said. "Had a good feel for his curveball tonight, especially against their lefties. The ball was down in the strike zone. If he can do that, then he can get a lot of swings and misses down on the breaking ball, which he got tonight."
