Tigers want input from doctors before announcing Verlander's MRI results

(11:24 pm ET) Results on Justin Verlander's MRI on his strained triceps muscle came back, but the Tigers have not consulted with all three doctors to determine the next step in his recovery. The team will make a formal announcement on his status on Wednesday, according to MLive.com.

Verlander began the season on the 15-day disabled list after suffering the injury in his final start of the spring.

Verlander went 15-12 with a 4.54 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP and 159:65 K:BB ratio over 206 innings in 2014. He has not won 20 games since 2011 when he won the AL CY Young award.


Three-run homer off Brewers SP Matt Garza is difference in loss

(11:22 pm ET) Brewers starter Matt Garza was touched for three runs on four hits in six innings Tuesday to suffer the loss against the Dodgers.

Garza took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning but a Justin Turner three-run homer changed the course of the game.

Garza threw 99 pitches in the defeat, striking out five and walking three.

Garza's next start is scheduled for Sunday against the Cubs.

Royals activate Greg Holland, option Yohan Pino to Omaha

(11:16 pm ET) The Royals activated closer Greg Holland from the 15-day disabled list following Tuesday's win over the Indians, per MLB.com. In a corresponding move, the team optioned Yohan Pino down to Triple-A Omaha.

Yankees' Chase Headley on lower back soreness: 'I'll be fine'

(11:14 pm ET) Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters he subbed Alex Rodriguez in for Gregorio Petit at third base late in Tuesday's 6-3 victory over Toronto because Chase Headley is dealing with soreness in his lower back, per Newsday. Petit was drilled in the hand in the eighth inning, which prompted the change by Girardi in the bottom of the ninth.

Headley is expected to be back in the lineup Wednesday.

"I'll be fine," Headley said.

Headley is hitting .247 with 10 RBI in 97 at-bats this season.


White Sox closer David Robertson closes out Tigers

(11:07 pm ET) White Sox closer David Robertson needed 13 pitches (10 strikes) to close out a 5-2 victory over the Tigers on Tuesday. Roberston allowed Yoenis Cespedes on base due to an error by second baseman Micah Johnson. He retired the next three batters he face to secure his fourth save of the season.

Robertson has not allowed a run over his first 10 innings pitched.


Matt Williams says Nats' P Stephen Strasburg has shoulder irritation

(11:06 pm ET) Nationals manager Matt Williams said that starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg was removed from his start Tuesday due to irritation underneath his shoulder blade, the team has announced.

Strasburg exited the game against the Marlins after three innings and 64 pitches for reasons unclear at the time.

Strasburg appeared to have some sort of issue early on as Nationals manager Matt Williams, pitching coach Steve McCatty and the trainer visited the mound in the second inning.

Strasburg remained in the game until his turn at bat in the third inning.

Strasburg gave up both runs in the Nats' 2-1 defeat and took the loss to fall to 2-3 on the season.

Ryan Howard doubles for Phillies in shutout loss

(11:04 pm ET) The Phillies were shut out on three hits by Atlanta on Tuesday. Ryan Howard contributed one of the few bright spots on offense with a double, for the team's only extra base hit of the night. 

Howard went 1 for 4, lifting his average to .195. He recorded his fifth double of the year.  


White Sox 3B Conor Gillaspie comes up big in win over Tigers

(11:02 pm ET) White Sox third baseman Conor Gillaspie came up big during Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Tigers.

Gillaspie broke the game open with a two-run triple in the third inning that proved to be the difference. He added a single and finished 2 for 3 with no runs scored and two RBI. He is .237 (14 for 59) with six doubles, six RBI and a .274 on-base percentage in 19 games.


Rays' Nick Franklin goes 1 for 3 in first rehab appearance

(11:01 pm ET) Rays second baseman Nick Franklin went 1 for 3 at the plate in his first rehab game for Triple-A Durham on Tuesday.

Franklin, who is currently on the 15-day DL with an oblique injury, hit a single and struck out once in the appearance. Franklin is yet to appear in a game for Tampa Bay this season after picking up the injury just before the beginning of the season.


Freddie Freeman goes deep in 3-hit night for Braves

(10:59 pm ET) Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman went 3 for 4 with three runs scored in Tuesday's win over Philadelphia. 

Freeman put the Braves on top to stay with a two-run home run in the first, his fifth homer of the year. His two RBI gave him 14 this season. He imrpoved his average to .301.
