News
Phillies pitcher Jerome Williams gave up six runs on nine hits in four innings of work Saturday against the Twins. Williams, however, isn't concerned at all with his spring issues on the mound, reports MLB.com.

"I think I'll be fine. Everything is fine," Williams said. "I need to attack, attack."

Williams is now 0-3 with a 6.60 ERA this spring and has given up a total of 11 runs in his last two outings.

"Some of the hits were pretty decent," conceded Williams. "Some others just found holes. I felt good, I felt fine. Physically, everything is fine. There's a couple of pitches I need to work on. I was trying to be too fine."

Manager Ryne Sandberg is taking his struggles into consideration.

"He's a little off with his command," said Sandberg. "He's a not as sharp as he wants to be. He's usually sharper than this in his last couple of outings."

This spring he has a batting average of .477 with four home runs and 14 RBI.

News
Marlins starting pitcher Dan Haren struggled in his final Grapefruit League start Monday against the Mets. The veteran right-handed pitcher allowed seven runs on six hits and one walk during a 7-1 loss. He struck out four in 5 1/3 innings.

Haren (1-2) matched zeroes with Rafael Montero until Lucas Duda broke a scoreless game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Mets then added five more runs in the sixth inning on a three-run double from Duda and a two-run homer from Michael Cuddyer.

Haren, who came into the game with a 1.93 ERA, saw his ERA rise to 4.66 in five spring starts. He has 14 strikeouts and three walks in 19 1/3 innings.

News
In the final week of spring training, Rays manager Kevin Cash still isn't sure who his backup catcher will be.

Curt Casali and Bobby Wilson are the two candidates for the job.

"I think both guys have had good camps," Cash said, per MLB.com. "They've shown what they need to show. And we've kind of anticipated that that would happen. So there are going to be some discussions and decisions that have to be made.

Casali is hitting .208 this spring.

"I know he's been continuing to work," Cash said, although he'd like to see him "drive the ball a little more."

Wilson is hitting .143.

"We knew Bobby," Cash said. "A little more of a track record, history at the Major League level. I think that helps."
