News
Phillies pitcher Jerome Williams picked up a win Sunday, giving up three earned runs on eight hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings while striking out two in his team's 5-4 victory over the Braves.

Williams was knocked around a bit in the top of the first inning, as the Braves were able to plate two runs on a bases-loaded single by Jace Peterson, but he was largely able to keep them off the scoreboard from that point on. He has delivered a 3.80 ERA and 15:5 K:BB ratio in 23 2/3 innings across four starts. Williams is slated to face the Marlins in Miami Friday.

Trout was 1-for-4 with a pair of walks in the loss, connecting to straightaway center off Texas reliever Anthony Bass as Los Angeles erased a 2-0 deficit. Trout is now hitting .318 and has 11 RBIs on the season.

Amarista hit a solo shot in the third inning and Norris homered in the seventh. It was both Norris and Amarista's first home run of the season.

Norris finished the game 2 of 3 with two RBI. In the fourth inning, Norris hit an RBI double that scored Matt Kemp. Norris is now hitting .324/.342/.493.

Amarista finished the game 1 of 3 and is hitting .227/.370/.364.

News
Marlins pitcher Dan Haren picked up a win Sunday, allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks in five innings while striking out three in his team's 6-2 victory as the Marlins finished off a sweep of the Nationals.

Haren (2-1) fell behind after surrendering a solo home run to Bryce Harper in the second inning, but he was able to hold the Nationals offense to just one more run until he exited. He's given up two runs or less in three of his four starts while putting together a 3.38 ERA and 17:8 K:BB ratio in 24 innings. Haren is scheduled to square off with the Phillies Saturday.

Braves infielder Alberto Callaspo hit a solo home run in a pinch-hit appearance Sunday in his team's 5-4 loss to the Phillies.

On the same day that manager Fredi Gonzalez indicated that Jace Peterson would serve as the team's primary second baseman, Callaspo, who has also seen plenty of time at third base, swatted a pinch-hit home run off Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon. It was the first homer of the year for Callaspo, who has hit .261/.314/.348 with four RBI in 46 at-bats.

News
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny knows relief pitcher Jordan Walden has been used a lot this season, but it's not going to stop him from calling the righty's name this year, reports MLB.com.

Walden has appeared in 11 of the team's first 15 games with an 0-1 record and one save to his record.

"I'd like to give all of them more rest, but once again this is where we are right now," Matheny said. "The days where they feel good… and there have been a number of days where I told him he can go down there in his tennis shoes because he's not pitching. [It's all] just depending on how the work has been and what he feels like."

Walden boasts a 0.96 ERA with 11 strikeouts and four walks so far this season.

News
Angels pitcher Jered Weaver who bulked up to 224 pounds in the offseason in an effort to pitch deeper into games, is anxious to earn a longer leash this season, according to MLB.com.

Weaver showed some frustration when manager Mike Scioscia walked him off the mound at the end of top of the sixth inning against Oakland on Wednesday. He allowed one run on eight hits over six innings of work in a 9-2 loss the Athletics. Of his season-high 93 pitches, 61 were strikes.

"It's not my decision," Weaver said. "It's [Scioscia's] decision. He knows where I'm at and how I'm feeling mechanically and body-wise. It's going to take a little bit of time to get that trust back and prove to him that I can be the guy that goes out there and throws 100, 115 pitches. That's what I was used to a couple years ago. But body-wise, I'm just trying to get to where I know I can be. Until then, he's going to have a little shorter leash on me."

News
A late rally by the Angels lifted starting pitcher Garrett Richards to his first win of the season in his second start Friday against the Rangers. He allowed two runs on three hits and three walks, while striking out five in seven innings.

Richards (1-1) opened the game with two scoreless innings before Mitch Moreland had an RBI groundout in the third inning. Prince Fielder followed with a two-out RBI single to put Texas ahead 2-0.

Richards would settle down after the Fielder RBI hit to retire the next eight batters before Fielder had another single in the sixth inning. Richards getting on track allowed Los Angeles to take a 3-2 lead in the seventh, which ended up being the final score and giving the right-hander the win.

Richards is slated to make his next start Thursday at Oakland.
