News
Although the Diamondbacks have not lost faith in reliever Evan Marshall, they will be using him in less crucial situations while he works on his pitching issues, reports MLB.com.

Marshall gave up a walk-off home run to Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal on Sunday and allowed two earned runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning Saturday.

"It's a guy that we need to get right," Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said. "It's important to our bullpen. We're going to probably bring him back, pitch him a little earlier in the game and try to make sure that he can be consistent."

Marshall had a strong rookie campaign in 2014 but is currently carrying a 7.59 ERA.

The second inning was not kind to Diamondbacks pitcher Rubby De La Rosa during Friday's 8-0 loss to the Dodgers.

All five of the runs De La Rosa surrendered during the game came in the fifth inning, including a home run to Justin Turner and a grand slam to Joc Pederson.

De La Rosa (2-2) received the loss for his effort. He allowed three hits, walked three batters and struck out six during the outing. De La Rosa has walked at least two batters in three out of his five starts this season. After Friday's outing, De La Rosa's ERA rose from 4.68 to 5.40.

His next expected start is scheduled for Wednesday at Colorado.

Diamondbacks pitcher Josh Collmenter picked up a win Wednesday, giving up just one unearned run on five hits in eight innings while striking out six in his team's 9-1 victory over the Rockies.

Collmenter (2-3) delivered one of his best starts of the season Wednesday, giving up an RBI single in the first inning that didn't cost him an earned run then shutting the Rockies down over the remainder of his start. He wound up throwing 102 pitches in his eight innings of work.

"My fastball command was good today, moving in and out" Collmenter said, per MLB.com. "I was able to mix in the curveball and the changeup and felt good with both of those. Had a lot of confidence in them and was able to move the ball around, and this is a really aggressive team, so pitching ahead in the count is huge."

Collmenter owns a 2.76 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB ratio in 32 2/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Rockies again Tuesday, this time in Colorado.

News
The Diamondbacks planned to go with a committee approach at third base after Jake Lamb went on the 15-day disabled list April 21 due to a foot injury. However, since Lamb left the lineup, rookie Yasmany Tomas has received the bulk of playing time at the hot corner.

"I'd planned on almost going every other day with him, but he's doing a nice job," manager Chip Hale said, per The Arizona Republic.

Tomas has certainly warranted the playing time. He totaled three RBI on Wednesday against the Rockies and has four RBI in his last two games. He also has two multihit games in his last two appearances.

"When they signed him, that's what we felt like he could do," Hale said. "He could be a run producer. He just seems to be getting better at all parts of the game on an everyday basis.

"We're seeing that raw power that everybody saw. We saw it early when he first came here, but I think from all the work that we were doing with him we tired him out a little bit too much."

Diamondbacks left fielder David Peralta is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Manager Chip Hale will run with both Ender Inciarte and A.J. Pollock in the lineup for the first time in four games, sending Peralta to the bench. He has started just once during a seven-game stretch prior to earning three straight starts this week.

The Diamondbacks are underdogs (+135) in Los Angeles Sunday.
