Shelby Miller notched a solid start, but didn't factor in the decision as the Braves dropped an extra-inning affair to the Phillies on Sunday.

Miller went 6 1/3 innings, scattering seven hits, but didn't allow any runs. He struck out eight and walked just two in the 108-pitch effort.

Despite the strong work, Miller still hasn't picked up a victory since May 17, with three losses and six no-decisions over that timeframe. His ERA is still a very respectable 2.07, among the NL league leaders.

Braves center fielder Cameron Maybin has never achieved at the plate anything close to what he has recorded this season. And other teams believe Atlanta might be looking to sell high and trade him by July 31, according to ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney.

Maybin has been hot in July with nine hits in 24 at-bats, including two doubles and a home run, to break a 6-for-35 skid. He boasts a slash line on the year of .294/.363/.416. All three numbers represent career-bests.

News
Braves left-hander Alex Wood was the beneficary of a nine-run explosion by his offense on the Fourth of July. Wood gave up four runs on 10 hits over six innings, but came away with the win in the 9-5 victory over the Phillies.

Wood (6-5, 3.34 ERA) walked two and struck out four. He gave up a three-run home run to Darin Ruf in the fifth inning, but the Braves already had nine runs on the board at that point.

"He had a lot of baserunners, but he battled," said Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, per MLB.com. "He bent a little bit, but he didn't give in and he kept us right there, and we were able to give him a little cushion and we end up winning the game."

This is the first time Wood has allowed more than three runs since he allowed four on June 12.

Wisler has surrendered a total of three runs over his last 11 innings of work and he has won his last two starts.
