News
Braves starter Shelby Miller once again pitched very effectively, but ultimately was left without a win in the 4-0 loss to the Marlins on Monday. Miller went seven strong innings, allowing one run on six hits. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Miller (5-12, 2.56 ERA) has not won a game in his last 19 starts, despite allowing two runs or fewer in 12 of those outings.

Rib - 15-day DL. Out until at least mid-September (Updated - 9/1/15)
News
Braves pitcher Mike Foltynewicz was placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation near his rib area, reports the team's radio network.

With Foltynewicz on the DL, the team will turn to Williams Perez to start Wednesday's game against Miami. Perez went 4-5 with a 5.56 ERA in 14 starts earlier this season.

News
The Royals have acquired veteran outfielder Jonny Gomes in a trade with the Braves, CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman reports. In 82 games with Atlanta this season, Gomes was hitting .223 with seven home runs and 22 RBI.

He will give the Royals some depth in the outfield and off the bench as they get ready for a likely postseason run. Gomes has been to the playoffs several times in his career, and is 7 for 49 lifetime in the postseason. He won a World Series ring with the Red Sox in 2013.

In return, the Braves will receive minor-league infielder Luis Valenzuela, Heyman adds. Valenzuela has been playing with the Royals' rookie league team and Class A affiliate in Lexington. Overall this season, he is batting .364/.385/.502 in 209 at-bats.

News
Braves outfielder Cameron Maybin was not in Monday's lineup so he can rest some lower-leg soreness and a sore left shoulder, reports AJC.com.

"[Maybin] is just a little banged up, nothing major," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "I'm trying to [divide playing time between] five or six outfielders. Gave him a day off yesterday, give him another day off today. Bourny has decent numbers against this guy, and put Jonny [Gomes] in there against left-handed pitching.

"So I thought it was a good time to give Maybin a couple of days off just to kind of heal up a little bit. I had to talk him into it, to take another day. He wanted to play."

News
Braves starter Matt Wisler needed to be near-perfect Saturday against the Yankees. He was merely good - and that wasn't good enough.

Wisler yielded two runs on four hits in six innings with four walks and four strikeouts. That was two runs too many as his team got blanked during his stint in the game.

The lone runs against him scored on a wild pitch in the first and RBI double by Didi Gregorius in the seventh.

Wisler bounced back quite well from a horrible performance last Sunday, when he allowed seven runs in 2 2/3 innings against the Cubs.

News
Braves starter Williams Perez was torched by the Yankees in his outing on Friday. The rookie right-hander was lit up for eight runs on five hits over 1 2/3 innings, as the Yankees clobbered the Braves 15-4.

Perez (4-5, 5.56 ERA) gave up five runs in the very first inning, including a three-run home run to Didi Gregorius. He allowed three more in the second before finally getting the hook.

Perez had a dreadful month of August, as he went 0-4 with an ugly 8.44 ERA in five starts--and that includes a complete game, two-run outing that resulted in a loss.

Following his latest blowup, the Braves optioned Perez down to Triple-A Gwinnett.

News
The first start after activation from the disabled list was not what Braves left-hander Manny Banuelos had in mind.

Banuelos couldn't make it out of the third inning against visiting Miami. He allowed three runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings with one walk and no strikeouts.

Three singles and a walk resulted in two runs on his ledger in the first. An RBI single by Conor Gillespie in the third knocked him out of the game.

The poor outing raised his ERA on the year to 3.33.

Ankle - Doubtful for Sept.1 vs. Miami (Updated - 9/1/15)
News
Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Marlins. Simmons was scratched from Monday's starting nine due to right ankle inflammation and he is expected to be sidelined for a couple of days.

Daniel Castro, who was just recalled from Triple-A on Tuesday, will get the start at shortstop in place of Simmons.

News
If misery indeed loves company, Braves starter Julio Teheran was crazy about his relievers Sunday. They performed as poorly as he did in a 20-6 dismantling by the Yankees.

Teheran was shelled for eight runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings as his record slipped to 9-7. He walked three and whiffed four.

Three home runs dropped him behind 7-0. The blasts by Stephen Drew, Chase Headley and Jacoby Ellsbury came in the second and third innings. A bases loaded walk in the fifth ended his afternoon.

So much for his momentum - Teheran had five straight quality starts and three consecutive winning decisions when he took the mound Sunday.
